Good luck making "the club" accountable he/ she/it is hard to track down.

Maguire was the coach that got South's their first premiership in 40 years, but before that they had a period of trying to attract quality talent much like we are going through now.If we have the money it will turn around. So please save all the smart a comments about our financial position being insignificant when it is the first vital step in moving forward.

South's relied heavily on Crowe's celebrity status to attract that talent, we don't have that so we need to find a way to make a statement to the rest of the competition! Signing Latrell was one way to make that statement, making a deep run in the finals is another. What do we have to quickly turn that perception and our unattractiveness around?

We don't have the success, resources, history, status, location to use those to turn us around. That leaves us in a position where we have to make a slow and steady rebuild, which it appears the club is attempting, but after the past decade that is not a scenario that a large number of our supporter base have the patience for!

Anyway he wants to play for less money that’s on him, not a slight on Pascoe or the club.

No of course not. But I think in future Pascoe should get in our CFO and external accountants to meet with any potential recruits. They can put together a little powerpoint presentation outlining our financial health and year on year projections. If Latrell was aware of our working capital situation and EBITDA forecast for the FY20 financial year I feel he would have signed.

What a load of crap ...lmao
Power point presentation lol
Most NRL players couldn’t even tie there own shoes never mind sitting through some garbage PowerPoint presentation lol

Mitchell didn’t come here cause we’re an perennial basket case and the coach is too much of a hard arse !

I love this basket case arguement ! It’s a load of trash , and such an exaggeration. LM is aboriginals. Soufs have positioned themselves as the indigenous club . They have key figures in that community manipulating and influencing kids to go to soufs. Not to mention , a lot of indigenous kids’ hero , is known for wearing the myrtle and green , and just retired. Of which LM has openly said he was one .
Throw together , the thing that hasn’t even been mentioned yet , his contract for this year was 400k!!!! Not 800k! If he’s getting 600k then he’s getting more money .
Yea the tigers offered more. But it looks less like, 400k more and now more like , 150k more .
If this is the case , then how much would someone have to offer you overs , to play for another club ??? I think 150k seems about right where you would be contemplating.
Also the Madge thing is an issue. Some guys arnt gonna want to play for him . Others will !
And the Robinson thing is offset by an Awesome image of a strong club . So if he’s a hardass, players just accept it as they’re playing at Moore Park .
This is where we really need to get to .

No doubt there will be charity work and cushy retirement job in there as well.

Umm.. is Justin now doing the player talent evaluations himself?

Funny thing is Johnston has been discussed before Latrell came into the picture. Was told he could explore his options & a couple of discussions between the club (mainly Madge) has occurred with him.

given we have to still spend a fair chunk of our cap to be compliant in 2020, has Madge been in discussions with any other players that haven't been mentioned?

It’s all got to come to ahead in the next 2-3 weeks. Plenty of clubs moving behind the scenes & it’s only going to take a couple of quick decisions for this player market to explode. But scoring ability is the target. If Stefano falls through for 2020 (which it’s highly unlikely) an impact forward will be chased but so far Setu is impressing.

Any idea who is most likely to be playing nine for us

And as importantly, any idea who will be playing fullback?

Corey Thompson will seemingly get first crack at the fullback spot given his strong performances in the position last season

Mate I know you're a bit of a star on the forum but was that comment genuine? IMO he is a fair winger and an awful fullback. If I had to rate the fullbacks from all clubs he'd be in my bottom 4. If he plays fullback this year we are no chance of the 8.

That’s a little unkind. I think Corey is a great fullback.

He’s a good winger but he’s an awful fullback.

Wow, your entitled to your opinion, However, labeling Corey as an awful fullback May be up there with one of the most absurd comments I’ve read here in the forum, in MY opinion.

He wouldn’t get a start at fullback at any other nrl club.

That is irrelevant to your initial statement.

Sorry, perhaps I should have been kinder and said he's the worst fullback in the NRL.

Again, your opinion, but it hardly makes sense, as he replaced our so called specialist fullback, and he Showed way more X-Factor than Mbye.
And before you say Mbye was carrying injuries and blah blah blah, Corey was a fill in, and still looked better.
This is just my opinion.
To make this Somewhat relevant to the thread, there was a bit of words earlier saying Corey would’ve been prepared to fight to keep his position over Latrell, extremely unlikely That he would’ve, however by him saying that, kind of says he will be training as our fullback over this off season preparing for the season as our FB.
Must have done something right.

No one is saying that Thompson doesn't give his all, in fact he may be one of our most respected players amongst our fan base! That however doesn't make him a good fullback, he is a very good hole runner with good acceleration who bust his gut, but he has little to no ball playing ability and is often out of position. Yes he tries hard and has used every ounce of talent he has, but that is not enough at this level!

The Roosters are able to remain successful with less support than most clubs. If the current admin have managed to get us into the healthy financial position that we are in now, with our lack of onfield success, we can proboably afford to accommodate the loss of those impatient supporters.

He was a fill in, I’m just saying he isn’t an awful fullback, he could catch the high balls and he could run, and he looked deadly and he can make something out of nothing, imo that’s what we need, sure he could improve in some areas but he isn’t an awful fullback, Mbye imo was awful.
Just a matter of opinion, which I understand we all will differ.

Pascoe rates AJ. If latrell decides on Souths and AJ is made available Pascoe will sign him

Umm.. is Justin now doing the player talent evaluations himself?

Must have done something right.

well we've targeted Mitchell, Moylan, Milford, Lomax, Brimson now Johnston so he mustn't have done enough right.
Your going off topic with your initial statement, I’m not saying Corey is a beast fullback, I’m saying he did a good job, I’m saying he showed potential and I’m saying he wasn’t awful.
I would prefer Corey at fullback then some of the names you mentioned.

I'm not going away from my initial statement. In my opinion Thompson is a good winger but a very poor fullback.

I’m not asking you to make a retraction, I just shared my opinion as you did.
Bottom line is, we all want the same thing.

Imagine we will be chanting AJ's name soon enough...

One thing Souths will gain to make up for their underwhelming forwards will be LM's kicking ability. The new 20/40 rule will give an advantage to teams with this option. Apart from Benji and possibly Brooks I wonder if we have anyone with a huge boot and no foot size jokes please.

To the people down voting this, state the teams he would make at number 1?

They can't because you're right.

The big (and only) disappointment for me - in the club’s failure to land Latrell - is knowing how mutually beneficial we could’ve been for each other. I don’t agree that there was too much pressure on him as our saviour......considering he is going to replace GI, who he’s been likened to since day dot.
I think he’s an exceptional talent yet also feel agree with others that he has some issues that need some attending to and thus in saying that, think there’s a relief that we are not taking on anymore baggage.
I hope this doesn’t come off offensive - as I don’t mean it to be - but the club, to me anyways, actually reminds me a lot of a woman with battered woman syndrome. We really have a way of picking them and we just need to steer clear of toxic guys.
FYI not labelling Latrell toxic just think some players are not the right fit for our club and the direction we want to/need to go.

LM has officially announced he’s leaving the Roosters, so it will be put to bed very soon.

That said, can we shelve the hysteria. Most of you are carrying on like him going to Souths is breaking news. We haven’t been in the picture since we took our offer off the table 6 weeks ago. So why is there still so much emotion?
