- At this point it is unlikely the Cowboys will move forward with a formal offer to Latrell Mitchell following their meeting in Townsville (@9NewsSyd)

https://twitter.com/NBWT__/status/1196685161120690176?s=19
- Valentine Holmes has decided to join the Cowboys for 2020.

The Cowboys view Mitchell as a a worthy marquee signing if the deal collapses but are preparing to formally sign Holmes before Christmas (Courier Mail)

@Plato - I think Holmes will go to the Canadian ESL team for good $$$. He has already been seen to be a bit of a dream chased, I imagine they will sell the idea of being there at the start to Holmes and he will probably take it. That will leave Mitchell with the decision between us and Cowboys. Will then depend on what are the press button issues that he will decide on. Lifestyle vs convenience of being still in Sydney and relatively close to Taree. Who knows how he will jump.

As an aside- I always considered Magpies / Balmain and now WT had a pretty good indigenous engagement and participation in the clubs playing ranks. When did this change? I'm amused to see other clubs touted for their indigenous engagement as against WT. Just curious on people's thoughts. If we have fallen off, we should pick it up again.

Not sure if VH will end up with the Wolfpack they are allowed 1 Marquee signing and SBW's got that tied up for the next 2 years then salary cap restrictions come in not sure what they are

YOu are allowed 2 and I believe there is seperate compensation if you attract a player from a rival code, which is why the interest in SBW & VH.

It's 1 marquee player. Their cap is quite low. No more than 2 mil.

He is right, it's 2

The former All Black will almost certainly come under the 'Marquee Player' rule, which states: "Each Super League and Championship Club is permitted to have two Marquee Players whose Salary Cap Value is limited to £150,000 (or £75,000 if Club Trained)."

That my be the case but they are only allowed 1 marquee player ho can be paid outside of the cap. Hence the ridiculous amount for she.

Reported as two from a rival code for the last few weeks. The English ru centre tualgia is the other one suggested since the ru world cup

Saw Thurston on the news saying cows should sign both Mitchell and Holmes. With a comment like that have to wonder whether JT thinks the cows are exempt from the cap.

No its 2 and you can pay them what ever you want but only P150K is on the cap. There is another dispensation of they come from another code (Like SBW & VH)

This might be just wishful thinking, but the whole Cowboys thing seems really suss. To me it is screaming of pressuring Holmes into getting off his arse.

Why I say that is Latrell does seem to be a pretty quiet dude, doesnt seek the limelight, seems to value quiet time to himself and family. We have heard over & over about his love to chill with family at Taree. Ever since the Roosters pulled their offer, there hasnt been a sound out of him, no publicity, no spruiking, no footage of him visiting bulldogs, Tigers, Souffs, Knights etc. Not a peep.

If NQ wanted him you would assume one of the things they would be selling him is that "its not like Sydney here, its quiet and you can relax and be yourself and hang out."

It seemed to be the opposite. The media were tipped off to every movement, when he was going, where he would be. There are photos and media video of him from the moment he landed. Dinner with Peter Parr and Cowboy big wigs in a highly visible location in Townsvilles high profile restaurant. Media waiting for him afterwards. LM social media of where is and what he is doing. They would be hard pressed to make it more high profile and visible.

Maybe that was the whole point?

@Glenn5150 ....and he wouldn't escape that anywhere in NQ. If he signed with the Cows he would be on billboards up and down the Bruce Highway, the Kennedy Highway and posters in every major town.
Good luck retaining a private life up here.

Nine reporting we've offered him a 4 years deal

Year 1 - 800k
Year 2 - 900k
Year 3 - 1M
Year 4 - 1.1M

Roosters have only offered 1.6M 2 years. But he wants the fullback role.

Maybe it worked for the Cows?

@Ponyo though I didn't read/watch either, I see there's a clip on NRL.com with Matto about Parra going all the way and Marsters story about making the 8. How much more ammo do our boys need?

You aren't kidding Lauren. You should watch the full interview on the NRL.com website. Matto's comments about being in a premiership squad would have been noted with thanks by our boys. The way he carries himself and talks is very choreographed - a lump of a lad, but a fairy of a man. Can't wait until we announce the rest of our signings like everyone else, so far so good though. I feel like we've taken a turn for the better. I know it doesn't seem like that to a lot of the fans/cynics because we've been through so much but we've taken the turn, you can feel the shift. Our finals drought will soon be a thing of the past and everyone's going to jump back on the bandwagon, just watch. The golden dawn is upon us ladies & gentleman.

The moment Lee Hagipantellis came out publicly saying Latrell’s signature would be an endorsement of the Wests Tigers he believed it was a done deal.
