Hi mate. Wrote in my column yesterday that Latrell is touring Cowboys this week - he is in Townsville now but the club says he is yet to meet them. Tomorrow. I think Tigers have a four year offer for Mitchell worth about $4m. I’m surprised Dogs pulled out after all the hype.

Wests Tigers chairman makes public pitch for Latrell Mitchell

The battle for Latrell Mitchell's signature has reignited with new Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis emphatically declaring the club's interest in bringing him to Concord next year on the same day that he arrived in Townsville to meet with the Cowboys.

Mitchell will be given royal treatment in Townsville, with Cowboys legend Johnathan Thurston to be his tour guide as the club attempts to sell the advantages of living away from Sydney's all-consuming Sydney bubble; a pitch that is likely to be alluring to the 22-year-old country boy from Taree.

However, there in North Queensland there is the complication of Valentine Holmes, with the NFL aspirant thought to be the club's first choice if they part with close to $1 million-a-season for a fullback.

The picture is less clouded at the Tigers where Hagipantelis has started to openly court the restless superstar who wants to be a fullback on top dollar."We want Latrell at the tigers next year, there's no doubt about it," Hagipantelis said."He's a quality human being and a quality player on and off the field.

"The lines of communication with Latrell and his management have been opened. We would not be the only club that would be interested in a marquee player of Latrell's stature in the game.

@TillLindemann well that's a good question, but if u look around the clubs u will see this. the rooters had 3 players on or very close to a million each. and still stated they had cap room,and now we have manly with 3 players on 1 million each or very close, cherry - evans and jake and tom. oh the 3 rooters were teddy, cronk, and boyd. then we will have the cows with 2 million dollar players in JT and either val or LM.

This is just ridiculous now, why is he touring the Cowboys facilities? We have given him a great offer, everything he damn well wants. If he was that invested in playing with us, he wouldn’t even be looking at the Cowboys. Not liking where this is going, I reckon JT will make the Cowboys and the North Qld lifestyle look very appealing.

Holmes just bloody well come home and take up the Cowboys offer will you? You’re not gonna make it in the NFL anyway.

Yes but what if he likes what he sees in Townsville better than what he sees in Concord? Always a chance of that happening - that’s why I’m praying for Holmes to come back.
