Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

If the speculation is to be believed it seems like he has two choices. He can take the money and an environment where he is going to be given the opportunity to be the man or he go to a place that has lifestyle options but is giving off vibes that having him is like coming second in the lucky door prize.

One thing that LM has to consider and that is the coach, it was rumoured last year that Green had lost the players respect.
Madge the hard task master.

He is meeting the the Cows and JT , the JT factor could be very influential in his decision.
Altho they both come from an indigenous back ground which would mean a lot to Mitchel it would also take him a very long way away from his roots at Taree which I believe would be a negative for his family life.

the Tigers play would be to take our country game to Taree and have a week up there leading up to it.

I think we are locked in to Tamworth aren't we? And I doubt Taree has an NRL standard stadium, it's not that big a place.

Port Macquarie does and its only 45 mins from Taree.

Hi mate. Wrote in my column yesterday that Latrell is touring Cowboys this week - he is in Townsville now but the club says he is yet to meet them. Tomorrow. I think Tigers have a four year offer for Mitchell worth about $4m. I’m surprised Dogs pulled out after all the hype.

This is just ridiculous now, why is he touring the Cowboys facilities? We have given him a great offer, everything he damn well wants. If he was that invested in playing with us, he wouldn’t even be looking at the Cowboys. Not liking where this is going, I reckon JT will make the Cowboys and the North Qld lifestyle look very appealing.

Holmes just bloody well come home and take up the Cowboys offer will you? You’re not gonna make it in the NFL anyway.

Chillax dude, it's just business.

Yes but what if he likes what he sees in Townsville better than what he sees in Concord? Always a chance of that happening - that’s why I’m praying for Holmes to come back.

Have you ever been to Townsville, not much to the place except Magnetic Island, hot sticky weather and lots of army folk. Also he would be away from his wife a kids every second week which is not as big a problem if based in Sydney. Not to mention the distance from Taree.

No I haven’t, but for all we know Mitchell may prefer that type of environment to the crap hole that is Sydney, not to mention the larger Aboriginal community in the area. He is a country boy after all, though I do get your point about the distance from Taree. Lots of footage of him meeting people there though, zero footage of him meeting with our guys.

Then its not meant to be and never was, and we all move on.

The way I see it, either Mitchell wants out of the big smoke, has had enough of the city and wants to move to a team in a regional area where he can feel more at home. If that's the case we never have a chance.

But if that were the case why would he meet us in both Taree and Sydney, talk numbers and negotiate a contract. If he wasn't that keen he'd keep us on the back burner and go straight to the club he wants to go to.

I think he's more motivated by money first, then comes lifestyle, winning and proximity to Taree. Cows only have 800k to offer him, and he may not even be their first choice. Surely he feels a tad insulted that someone of his talents isn't the team's first choice?

Lifestyle options? We are talking about Townsville. The place is hardly the Vegas of the north. As someone mentioned earlier the only real attraction is Magnetic Island but even Tim Sheens got sick of that.

I carnt wait till this is over so I can stop pressing refresh every 5 mins hahaha

Tell me about it. I don't normally give a crap about NRL in November. League is taking more of my life and they aren't even playing.

Hey Latrell, here's a million dollars a season. Give us 5 days a week. Spend the other 2 in Taree.

Not that hard is it.

You wouldn’t think so, yet there he is in North Qld checking things out.

I must admit I'm usually optimistic but if we missed out on him and ended up with A J from south's I'll be majorly disappointed. Fingers crossed we are still a chance

I can't recall this level of insecurity shown by so many in the seven or eight years since I first started looking at this forum, and all over a potential signing.

It’s out of control. And all based on hearsay. No one knows why he’s in Townsville, could be any number of reasons. Gamesmanship, honouring his word about meeting them, who knows. I don’t think it’s going to change the outcome. I believe the club is doing everything humanly possible to get him over the line

Of course you would check out every serious option even if it is only a formality. It's like if you were trying to decide which University to attend. You might already have your heart set on one, but you decide you should commit to your original plan of checking them all out in the small chance one sweeps you off your feet.

I agree with that.
It’s like when your looking for a particular thing at the shops and your happy with the first one you see but you go on and check the rest of the stores before thinking about purchasing it from the original store just to make sure it’s a good deal and you know the shop will still be able to get it later on when you pass back through.
Unfortunately in some cases you end up either over it or 2nd guessing yourself sometimes and end up choosing something in a place your in later on because it’s more convenient.
Hope this metaphor doesn’t ring true in this case.

If he does not like Sydney there is not a thing we can do about it. It appears as though we have tried our best but you can't make somebody like where they live only they can do that. If he goes to Townsville because of the life style good for him, I wish him the best. We will then move on and look for other options.

Good Luck to him. I hope the cards fall our way and we sign him but either way I am excited for the direction we are heading as a club. For the first time in a long time I have confidence in the powers that be are steering the ship in the right direction

For goodness sake ..... just get it over and done with .... and
I don’t care which way this goes.
Another soap opera with a manager and player playing games.
Give me guys like Turbo boys any day.
