I really like what Lee has said so far, and I've heard more from him in two days than I heard from Barry in however long he was here, but unless we've got Latrell than saying "it would be recognition that the club is heading in the right direction by securing players of that calibre" is a rookie mistake if he doesn't eventually sign. It ends up saying the exact opposite to that statement and makes us look amateurish, not that we need help with that.

Lee seems like a smart guy, so I hope he's talking publicly with more knowledge than us. I just think those sorts of statements should only ever be made when players have already signed.

I get that he's trying to woo Mitchell in the media, and support him publicly when others haven't, but I think you can say those things without making the club so vulnerable to scorn.

Anyway, just my observation on what has been a compelling 85 page thread.

I'm still hopeful we sign him and I basically agree with what Lee says it would prove about our clubs merits if it does happen. I particularly like the contract figures that have been suggested, I think that's a great deal for us and I'd have been happy even if he was over 1 mil a season from next year.

And I like Mitchell a lot more than Holmes. I don't think Holmes has anywhere near the physical force and creative spark that Mitchell has. He's a great runner with great speed and he's skilful, but I don't think he's at latrell's level.

Lee is very smart. In the last couple of days he has publicly acknowledged how valued Latrell Mitchell will be at our club
***. I read elsewhere that one if the things Latrell was upset about was not feeling valued at the Rorters***.
Lee is giving him the right message.

I'd like to read this, can you provide a link?

As for the narritive that our forwards are lacking. Yes we could use a couple of players but i dont think its as bad as some are making out.

We have these guys who will be in the 17 somewhere -

Thomas Mikaele
Josh Aloiai
Oliver Clark
Michael Chee Kam
Luke Garner
Alex Twal

Thats the start of a very solid pack right there!

And we have these guys who are in the mix depending on form -

Chris McQueen
Chris Lawrence
Elijah Taylor
Matt Eisenhuth
Russell Packer

Go ahead and spend the million on Mitchell, we will be ok!

??????? possible comment of the off-season!!!

What ...because I understand that footy games aren't won by outside backs

Because I understand we lost arguably our best forward and then arguably our 2nd best forward when fit

Said it a million times , you might have the best 7,6 and 1 those blokes in the 8,10,11,12 and 13 jerseys can't build a platform you lose a lot of footy games

Sorry for the dose of reality

Yeah they sucked so much I'm amazed we got to 9th..like ever

Can't believe people are going to be disappointed to sign Latrell Mitchell..

Gee Geo 9th ...easily satisfied

Not knocking his signing IF it happens ..my issue is people's expectation if he does sign ...we won't become contenders overnight

And you know we need forwards badly ..we are massively undermanned for 2020 in the forwards

If we have spent a million it only leaves 700 k for 4 players ....we will get some absolute superstars for that money ..especially back rowers and props

Yeah we may not make the 8 again. The thing is it has been mooted we will have 5 million available in 2021. Now even if you take out 1 million for Mitchell, that still leaves plenty of money to build up the side nicely around him.
I agree with what you are saying, but Mitchell is available now, so we have to act now.

I don't get the 5 million for 21

We will still have Packer Reynolds Mbye

Only a handful of player's most probably won't be here including Lawrence Taylor McQueen Marshall

That's maybe a million

If we get Mitchell and a couple of others to multiple year deals plus we have re signed Garner and Teal the supposed war chest for 21 is slowly eroding away right now

This is what TPAs are used for. If ws can take 200-300k off his salary then were in a good spot.

So we've got 900 k for four spots tell me what front rower and back rower of note you could sign for 325 k each ??

Seems like the plan is Tetevano and Leilua. Pack of:

No 8. Twal
No 10. Tetevano
No 11. Garner
No 12. Leilua
No 13. Aloiai

No 14. Mikaele
No 15. Packer/Eisenhuth/Clark
No 16. Lawrence/Taylor/MCK

Aloiai and Mikaele generate momentum. Garner and Leilua red zone options. Twal as workhorse. It’s a workable pack with potential...

Absolutely. You don't pass up on 22 year old dual premiership winning try scoring machines who have also represented country and state, ESPECIALLY when you're in deficit in both positions they are extremely capable of filling.

We have a bunch of coin available at the end of next year, spend it on the quality forwards that come onto the market.

even if we are the only bidder I don't think we'll hear anything until at least early next week. will probably kill a few people with suspense, but it doesn't seem as if Latrell is in any hurry

You may be right but I have a feeling it will be this week...there seems to be an announcement a day thing happening at the moment (they could have easily announced Twal/Garner same day).

A burgess, jwh, taumololo type barnstormer to get our sets off on the front foot.would.be nice

Luciano maybe?

He's not really a tackle one or two hit up prop... More 3 & 4

He's not starting his pre season till after Christmas anyway. There's no reason to rush. Will happen when it happens.

He’s running on Koori time

@Nelson Seyfarth is a smokey, don't forget about him, I'm sure Madge wouldn't want to start him at lock early in the season, so he will be coming off the bench. I qouldnt be against the idea of having Twal at lock.

8. Aloiai
10. Tetavano
11. Garner
12. Leilua
13. Twal

14. Packer
15. Mikaele
16. Seyfarth
17. MCK/ Lawrence

edit: sorry the numbers got jumbled up, from Tetavano on onwards the numbers, are pushed one forward.

@avocadoontoast For me the quicker the better... Seen it before and will see it again when another team decides at the last min to have a go for a player and nabs him E.g. Dogs had Appi K and panthers stole him at the last min and this was confirmed by the player himself.. Don't kid yourself that this won't happen but fingers crossed it doesn't.

I don't think Penrith were paying Api a million dollars. You don't just swoop in at the last minute with a million dollar offer. No one else, bar the Cows can afford him.

Yeah I think Twal could work at lock given his engine, I just think our options at lock are deeper than our options at prop. I'd be fine with Taylor in the #13 given how he finished last season for example. I don't see Seyfarth getting the jump on Taylor or Eisenhuth, at least early in the season anyway.
