Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

@pawsandclaws1 not necessarily as LM is still a contracted player.
I trust James Hooper as much as I trust Isaac Moses.

@finnzo LM was never going to come to WT players of is ability just don’t come to our club but we are the best at signing broken down and past there use by-date players also good at signing juniors with potential. Even when we get a half decent one we can’t hold on to them

Can’t wait for when it’s official that Latrell signs with us and everyone saying he was never coming cause we’re a basket case goes hiding

From FB:

”Big Sports Breaky have just reported this morning that the Wests Tigers have missed out on signing Latrell and that the Cowboys are in a position to sign both Latrell and Holmes.

This could be huge if it’s pulled off”

They also said we had him last week...in fairness, I don't think they have the cash to sign MItchell as well.

That would be Michael Morgan, Taumalolo, Holmes and Mitchell on $1 Million a season. They then need to pad out the rest of the team with the remaining 6 Mill which averages out to $230,000 per player...it's unlikely they could do this.

the manager said he’s meeting the tigers this week . That’s a direct quote . The rest is crap innuendo and speculation , probably put out because Valentine has the poos the cowboys paraded Lattrell around last week , making Holmes look like a mug , or , second choice .
“No Valentine , we want him to play centre , we wouldn’t offer him the 1, that’s for you bud

JETS RELEASE HOLMES - OFFICIAL

https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/valentine-holmes-released-from-jets-practice-squad

Valentine Holmes, who came to the Jets in April from Australia's National Rugby League as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program and has been learning the NFL ropes as the "11th man" on the Jets' practice squad, has been released and is eying a return to the NRL back home in Australia.

Holmes, 24, went through OTAs, minicamps and training camp with the Jets, with an eye toward joining the team as an 11th practice squad member and the possibility of moving to the active roster next season if not sooner.

Holmes (6-1, 200), whom the Jets listed as a RB/WR, saw action in all four preseason games. He wound up with 11 carries for 9 yards, 8 catches for 85 yards with a 27-yard long reception in the preseason finale against Philadelphia, a zero-yard punt return and a 21-yard kickoff return. He played 39 offensive plays and five special teams snaps in the summer games.

"Yeah, it's been awesome," he said of his Jets experience before the start of the regular season. "I'm excited I got to play in all four games and I'm very grateful the Jets gave me that opportunity. I'm happy with how much time I got, whether it was a couple of minutes or 10 minutes or whatever. I'm just very grateful to be here."

Looks like the mail on NQ signing Holmes was spot on with the official release.

Surely they won't sign him on $1 million to play wing and surely they won't pay $1 Million for Mitchell to play centre?

How can he have knocked back our contract when Latrell and his manager are meeting with WT to discuss the offer next week?

NRL media have nothing else to talk/write about. They'll regurgitate the same thing over and over until it's made official one way or another

How would we know if he met with us while he was in Sydney before flying to Townsville? Why are we all presuming an announcement would be made while he's away on holidays with his family (and hence rather uncontactable)?

We all have to realise that of course we're not his first choice either. We never could be. He's leaving the most successful club of the last decade to potentially join the worst club of the last decade, who also have the worst facilities. Money and opportunity are our only attractions. If a successful club offers him the same money and opportunity as us we're in trouble

You know what, we run 9th most years, 9th! never last or anywhere near last! We’re not that far off being a perennial top 8 team and a successful club. It would only take a one or two elite players like Mitchell to tip us over that edge. We have a premiership winning coach, some great young guys coming through and state of the art training facilities only about 12-18 months away.

Sure, we’ve had a really dry run of finals success over the last decade, but anyone with eyes can see that we are a club that is heading upwards. We are far from the worst club in the NRL. If Mitchell thinks he is too good for us and can’t see the future here then good luck to him elsewhere. We don’t need or want players whose hearts aren’t in playing for this team.

We've been a club standing still for a decade. There was a new dawn when Cleary arrived too, yet the same results. Other clubs may have bad years, but they usually do a clear out and then bounce back. We've been waiting 10 years to bounce back. With every year being the year out changes.

We need to actually do it to get some respect yin this league

From Reading The Play on Twitter:

“Plenty of noise around that a) Tigers offer to Mitchell is not where the Mitchell camp would like it to be and b) Cowboys have made a very strong play...

All likely gets sorted over next few days one way or another.”

whats the bet that cows sign both val and LM and the NRL don't raise a eye brow.

That would be unusual, the Cows haven’t historically been one of the NRL’s ‘favoured’ clubs.

@balmain-boy looking at our signings so far this year, this is almost what we are doing right? Planning for the future?? Madge is slowly clearing out the dead wood and players who don't want to be at the club a la Matulino and Matterson. I think we are on the right path and we have the right people in place now. Have a little faith

Former Cronulla Sharks star Valentine Holmes is set to return to the NRL after being released by NFL franchise the New York Jets.

The 24-year-old speedster left the Sharks at the end of the 2018 season in a bid to earn a place in the NFL and joined the Jets as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. He played in the team's four pre-season games as a member of the Jets' practice squad but is now set to return to Australia."Joining the New York Jets has been an awesome experience, one I would never change," Holmes said in a statement. "I made personal and professional sacrifices to secure the opportunity to pull on the Jets helmet and uniform, I will live with no regrets around my decision to pursue an NFL career. "I will now take some time off to organise my things and sit down with my family and my agent on my return to Australia to discuss next steps."

The Cowboys are understood to have kept at least $800,000 of salary cap space aside and have the capacity to offer Holmes a long-term deal.

The report staes that it is believed that Cowboys have at least $800,000 aside to sign Holmes. How does Mitchell fit in?

Don’t count on it. It will then be it took so long, that he only came here cos he had no other options.
