Unfortunately this is the reality of this club. Players just don't want to come here. To get any decent player the club would have to pay massive overs for them.
I laugh at times reading this and the signings and rumours threads saying we should sign XXX or XXX.
They just dont want to come to the club!!!

I assume the instability of the club in the past is the reason, but who knows tbh

That's ok because we can produce our own superstars. We have in the past so there is no doubt we can do it again. Our issue, highlighted in the other thread is retaining them. This is where we need to be on the top of our game.

With the exception of Tedesco what superstar have we produced in the past decade?

Tuiaki and Dwyer were potential superstars and match winners.

Tedesco is very good, but not a superstar and in my view is behind the greats of Slater, Langlands, Eadie, Jack, Langlands etc.

Moses, Woods, Marsters and Brooks are also very good and three are internationals.

So 2 superstars definitely, three if you included Tedesco.

Just goes to show how shonky some of this stuff is with other clubs … after signing Arrow they claim they cant afford LM, we don’t have enough in our cap to fit him in … a week later LM is about to sign a 3 year deal with them … !! that’s bulldust … let’s hope that the Roosters play hard ball and don’t allow the transfer for this season … and what’s does the NRL think of these types of signings where they can clearly see something is not right about it … nothing … !! Just goes to show that NRL itself is on the take … they allow the stronger clubs to get stronger and don’t care if the weaker clubs get weaker … !!

The NRL isn't on the take. He didn't sign with us because he didn't want to, same with Arrow. Regardless of the rubbish we're force fed, we are not an attractive club. The elite players don't want to play for us.

They bailed souths out of a salary cap mess 2 years in a row, they wrote Inglis a reference after he was caught speeding whilst over the limit.
No club has ever had this done in the past, nor will it happen in the future.
Even the calls souths received from officials during their 2014 title win was ridiculous, the NRL wanted souths to win, and they got their wish.

I was happy for Souths to win 2014, better than Bulldogs at any rate. I would have been happy for Raiders to win last year. Being happy for a side to win is ok, not the same as actively assisting a club to win.

Not sure what you mean about bailing Souths out of salary cap 2 years in a row. If on one year you mean Burgess, well that means they are also bailing Broncos and Tigers out at the same time, with Foran also a potential, that would make 3 or 4 of the 16 teams bailed out inside a few months. If you are "bailing out" everyone, then really who cares.

The Inglis thing isn't Souths-related, it's player related. I don't support it but Greg Inglis isn't Souths, same as the testimonials for Thurston and Smith, which I also don't support, weren't about NRL looking out for the Storm and Cowboys.

Gee I can't agree with you there. Tuiaki was a very good winger but no way was he a superstar. Dwyer had the potential to be a superstar but unfortunately never reached it. Tedesco is the best player in the game currently and the best player we've produced in the past decade by a country mile imo.

Moses, Woods, Marsters and Brooks are nowhere near superstars. Moses and Brooks have never played rep footy and Woods days of rep footy are well and truly over. Marsters used to be decent but in 2019 was bog average.

And finally, even when we had Tedesco, Woods, Brooks, Moses we failed to make the finals.

Unfortunately our standards havent seemed to be very high.

Back to Latrell, if he ends up at Souths, the Tiger boys need to be reminded that he could have been one of us, but he didnt rate us highly enough to come and join. So when we play Souths, we want him smashed into next week.

Why would you or anyone else harbour any ill will towards Mitchell? He's done no wrong by us, just decided to go to a club where he has a chance at continuing to play finals football. I would have made the same choice.

Neglected Benji and Robbie! Benji and Robbie are way ahead of Tedesco. I am a huge Tuiaki fan and he revolutionised wing play. He was lethal like no other winger and Sheens' strategy was pure genius. Pulled from second grade rugby at Manly as a breakaway. Dwyer another matchwinner, which makes me sad just to think about him now.

I still can't see how Souths accommodate LM at the moment without moving anyone on (AJ & DG both are still overseas) but at any rate, it is his fault as he pays his advisers. He's extorted his childhood club & uncle out of $70,000 while sleeping with the enemy - seems orchestrated from day one, "don't worry trell your on holidays, just say your gone fishin" poor form. You can't buy loyalty.

Im still disappointed that we havent got to play Ivan at home (Leichhardt or Campbelltown) yet. Last years home game vs Ivan was at Brisbane.

The NRL isn't on the take. He didn't sign with us because he didn't want to, same with Arrow. Regardless of the rubbish we're force fed, we are not an attractive club. The elite players don't want to play for us.

No we didn't neglect Robbie and Benji as we were talking about the last decade only.

We're not. One is still playing the other recently retired. Benji and Robbie in.!

Well Teddy absolutely craps all over their last decade.

Also true. But 2019 Teddy in the same team as 2010 Benji would be good to watch.

Glorious

Fair enough but it's not Souths fault or the NRL's fault that we are in the predicament we are currently in.

It's never our fault

Well said. The first step to overcoming a problem is admitting you have one. And Pascoe et al seem to be oblivious of that.

They know we have problems but to admit it publicly would be career suicide

Do they? One forumer said Pascoe told him the media are to blame for our image and recruitment.
