Liam Fulton

G'day, I do a fair bit of lurking and almost never post, but I decided to put my 2 cents in here.

I'm really please to hear Fulton is coming back. He was pretty disappointing in his last season with us, but back in 2005 I thought he had the potential to go on to be Origin standard. He's one of those smart players, and I suspect with Farah and Marshall firing again and guys like Moltzen and Lui to link with, Fulton may be able to add an extra touch of class in the forwards.

Also, I know it's not done to criticise Heihno, but he had a scrappy year last year in defence, I think partially because we didn't have another 80 minute player to make 40+ tackles again. So I kind of disagree that we need a "big hitter". I think the defence will be tighter AND have more energy to hit hard with another round the legs 40+ tackles again type player in the side.

Anyway, here's hoping.

In light of todays rumors (hanbury and Payne) and the sighnings of the past few weeks (Moors, Cayless) the picture is a little clearer….

Heres hoping Fulton can become our equivelent to Stag and Hindmarsh defensivly.

and as I have posted previously,

Can anyone who watched ESL confirm he has beefed up a little. ???

If not he is welcome to come over my place, my girls awsome cooking will help

well he has abit, not over alot but when he first came to us he was alot smaller.

I also agree to play fulton at lock.

Can tackle all day, provides an extra ball player if need be but can also do some good sturdy runs also.

As somebody said, can be a similiar style to Stagg yet with some extra ball skills and also can provide a kicking option if need be.

We are talking about Liam Fulton here, right? The same Liam Fulton who was looked at as dispensable and lent to ESL - a weaker comp than NRL - because it would get us out of salary cap troubles?

Hopefully the experience has served him well. But expecting him to be a better player, let alone our Stag or Hindmarsh, because he played in a lesser comp on the other side of the planet for a season is completely unreasonable. Had Galea remained with us I'd say he would've struggled for a spot in 17.

I have my doubts as to what Fulton can do for us. For the sake of the club i hope he comes in and does great but optimism here is pretty low on this topic. I for one can't believe we've felt that we should bring back Fulton whilst not feeling the need to re-sign Danny Galea. If i had my way Fulton would be at Canberra and Galea would've stayed put.

Fulton is ten times the player Galea would ever be.

We have blokes like Dyer Fifita Shirnack coming through that can play back row.

No biggie.

I personally prefer Fulton, though Galea did well for one quarter of his contract with us (no doubt injury took its toll). Please remember however that Fulton was already contracted to us, he was not re-signed to my knowledge. He did us a big favour going overseas to relieve our cap issues. He should be afforded some respect for his service to the club.

I really think Fulton is going to stand up next year. I reckon it will be round 12 when some wonder why they ever doubted his worth in the team.

I'm pretty sure he was released and resigned. The NRL wouldn't permit a loan contract as it would then impact on the Tigers Salary Cap.

Like tigerpete I don't agree in letting Galea go. In fact I am absolutely filthy! I've been a fan of his from the start and tbh he would command less $$$ than Fulton AND a lot more value imo. Canberra have scored themselves a bargain and we have added unnecessary $$$ to our salary cap. With have plenty of players who can do what Fulton can do.

He offers limited value as a half as we have great depth there… for once! Moltzen, Marshall, Tuamata, Lui.

He's played this season at 6 (to my knowledge anyway) so i don't know how he'll slot back into the forwards, but we have a list a mile long of backrowers... most of which rank higher than Fulton.

He did the club a favor and that is why i can't get angry for the club returning the favor... but i wish we just released him 2 seasons ago.

I think some are being way to harsh on Liam here…......as with all things time will tell....

Maybe, as i said he did the club a service in leaving. I just don't know where his fits in our side dude… I hope I'm wrong and he kills it this season but i just can't see it happening.

I like Fulton as a player but I also feel Galea is more suited to our team. Fulton has all the skills and in a way is a much better player than Galea but Galea simply hits hard and can make a good hit up as well.

I'd love to see Fulton put on some size or alternatively develop a hard shot in defence. If he could hit hard and stop momentum he would be a gun.

Yeh he did the club a great service by taking up the offer to go to Huddersfield - something he didn't plan on doing - and couldn't wait to come home. Why ? to get the club out of salary cap problems at a time when others got pay increases. He was the only backrower that any other club was interested in taking off the Wests Tigers. No other club at the time wanted Payne, Galea or Trimarchi.

It also doesn't help when the superdoopa coach uses him as a battering ram instead of the ball player that most of us know he is.

Fults is pysched to be back. 2010 will be the season that The Joker in the Pack has the last laugh on his critics!

…. and he was always coming back.

The club obviously deemed him to be the one to make way when for salary cap reasons at the end of 2007\. If he was that important why was he the one let go. If you ask me, our back row/lock stocks are more competitive now than they were back in 07 as well which leaves me wondering is it just the upholding of a contract that has him back?

If so i can understand that but it's not exactly a great business decision. For that matter neither is the re-introduction of Fitzhenry.
