Liam Fulton

I tend to agree with Willow that Liam is not a weapon but he does offer more than just defence around the ruck. I think he is a forward that can play to the the line and at the line. I really cannot see him playing through the line as his size probably negates this. Depending on how Sheens uses him next year, I can see Liam being used as a bit of a foil for Benji and popping passes to Gareth as a hole runner - he could be very effective

How people can bag Liam yet have Flanagan in their 17 is beyond me!

Flanagan is a baby in league terms - a small lock who has only played a dozen ESL games let alone any NRL!!

Liam will be a welcome addition and maybe we can again have a real no. 13 - rather than the likes of Payne!

Flanagan is bigger than Fulton, and hits harder too

I have to say that young Mark is an outstanding prospect & acknowledge that Liam is also a small lock - however you failed to deal with the issue that he does only have less than a dozen games in top grade in a team that regardless of its recent success boasts the likes of George Carmont & Cameron Phelps as starters in their top 17 (Carmont is even in the 13)!!

Flanagan is not the 6'3 that Wikipedia states & even his manager Martin Offiah acknowledged that he needs to put on bulk to make it in the NRL. He does hit hard due to his relative hardness but he needs 8kg of pure muscle to make it in the NRL!

Liam - despite his injury - played more games in the ESL this year than debutant Flanagan - & also in a winning team! He also has 70+ NRL games incl. a Finals series & GF win!

The case for Liam ahead of Flanagan is pretty damn compelling for those with a brain!

I looked for stats on Mark & could only find that this was his first year of ESL he is 22 this year misses more than 10% of his tackles & normally comes of the bench. Yet to kick the ball at all for Wigan. But you think with his massive 10 games of ESL will walk into our top 17.

I wouldn't have Fulton over Flanagan

I eventually found that Mark is 1-74meters tall & weights a massive 90kg in weight & is regarded as a scrum 1/2 or loose forward

He is probably closer to 178cm and 89kg!

He is a goer in ESL - but at 22 to only play 10 games it is a case of a very late bloomer given his lack of size!

I hope to see him in State Cup next year (but I have concerns about him handling that). As a Balmain supporter - I'd prefer to see him at Lidcombe!

Wests will gladly take him and develop him….Skando will take care of that.....

Liam for starting lock .....hitting holes of Benji out wide and up the guts from Robbie....can't wait.....

I seriously think that although we are all talking about who is going to start at lock next year between Liam and Mark, i think that none will start there.

Tim Sheens will most likely start the season with these forwards:

11.Ellis
12.Payten
13.Heighnton

14.Fulton/Flanagan

If we sign Lima/Cayless, I think that could be likely with one of either Lima/Cayless/Gibbs on the bench.

If somehow we dont, then I think Gibbs will start and Payten may be used as the prop off the bench, assuming that Skando doesnt play on.

Im liking all these options that we could have, it shows that we've built some depth and you gotta hand it to Sheens, he said there would be a cleanout, and although its taken a while, it has happened!!!

I agree with back row; Heighno @ 13; Payten to 2nd Row & Fulton in the 14.

Yeahh good point that is what will probably eventuate. But i think we will sign both cayless and lima and have a great team next year. CANT WAIT!!

why does tims sheens cop so much criticism?
He is the australian coach and is doing a great job for use cosidering what he is presented. The last 10weeks shows us how much he could get out of our team next year. especially with the players set to join us in 2010 :wahoo:

TIGERS 2010!!!!

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed the release of six players from the 2009 full time squad as follows: Liam Fulton, Paul Jackson, Richard Lopag, Joe Walsh, Tom Hemingway and Chris Lawson are released.
>
"Liam was always a short term option for us after the Todd Carney deal fell away and he has been great to have around the team but he has unfulfilled ambitions in the NRL to pursue. I am sure that the taste of the English game has helped his development as a player and a person and I know that he has enjoyed learning from Nathan and will continue to play a big part in the remaining games."

Huddersfield's Goodbye to Liam

it would appear form the above post that Liam is returning.
only time will tell if his stint overseas has been good for him.
good to have you back Liam.
all the best for season 2010
does this mean that the radio broadcasters should be wary of dodgy phone calls again.

Firstly he has been average at the Giants this year.
Secondly, I do not want him back at the tigers; he would be a step backwards for the club

What a load of rubbish. You would'nt know a footballer if you fell over one.

Going off fultons form before he left and his form in the super league i foresee him playing a lot of games for BRET or him being in first grade ruining a position.

I see him as a huge bonus for us…...cant wait to have him back.

I agree!

It may only be akin to a couple of acres - but Liam's return is like buying back some of the farm! (As was Hodgo in 2004 & as will Lima be if the deal is not quashed at the 11th hour)

**WESTS TIGERS CONTINUE STRONG PLAYER RECRUITMENT**
Friday, 16 October 2009

Wests Tigers has continued its strong player recruitment drive for season 2010 by signing premiership winning forward Liam Fulton to a two-year deal.
Fulton played 76 matches for Wests Tigers from 2003-2008 before heading to Huddersfield Giants in the English Super League for the 2009 season.
Fulton played under Coach Nathan Brown at Huddersfield in both the Challenge Cup Final and the Super League semi-final series.
Despite suffering an early season injury, Liam played 16 matches for the Giants in 2009\. He will be a welcome addition to Wests Tigers with his high work-rate, versatility and excellent ball skills.
“Returning to Wests Tigers has me really excited, there is a real buzz about our 2010 campaign,” said Fulton.
“My time at Huddersfield helped develop my game and I’ll return to the NRL a more complete player”.
Wests Tigers has also signed winger Tame Tupou and utility Daniel Fitzhenry.
Tame Tupou has secured a one-year deal with an option for a second year with Wests Tigers.
Tupou is a powerful and hard running winger who previously played for Brisbane Broncos and Bradford Bulls. He has also played Test football for NZ.
Fitzhenry returns after a two year stint with Hull Kingston Rovers. He played 43 matches, mostly at hooker and also filled in across the backline.
Fitzhenry is a very experienced player and will assist in providing leadership to the younger players in the Wests Tigers squad.
