LIVE game discussion. Tigers Team Vs Penrith - Trial#2

Disagree about Pole being uninterested. Had an error, but had heaps of runs and was in plenty of tackles, I thought he was very involved and ran the ball well

Agree his play the balls need to speed up, but better he takes his time than drop it trying to rush to his feet

Some delayed thoughts/comments from me:

1. Douhie can’t tackle with his right shoulder. It’s a problem when defending on the right because it means you have to put your head in front of the ball carrier’s body to make contact with your left shoulder. It’s why he broke his jaw last year. Saw him do it again last night. It’s also why he gets beaten on the outside a lot when defending on the right edge. Compare it to how well he defended when playing left centre for us. I am disappointed he has not worked on this over the off season.

2. Biggest surprise for me last night. MAV Geyer. I had no expectations but thought he was very good.

3. Twal was awesome. Had a good season last year too, especially the back end and appears to have carried that form over.

4. Even Bula at his best is not worth $950k for mine. I’d be happy to have him finish his contract this year, take up the club option for $950k and then see what happens. At least we are not locked in long term that way. I believe he’s already 24 and with a slight frame and below average acceleration (but excellent long speed) I don’t know how much improvement he has in him (I know he was a late starter).

5. Is Javon Andrews a smoky for fullback at some point in the future? I don’t know enough about him yet to say but he has great size and ball playing. Something to watch.

6. It was a shame the “malfunctioning air conditioning system” meant Ivan Cleary couldn’t watch the game from the coaches box last night and was forced into the outdoor press box 😹

Luai isn’t a leader. We learnt this from his performance last year.
wtf are you talking about ? That’s absolutely laughable in its stupidity and lack of truth . He’s literally the reason the club looks on the up . Him and him alone .
But he’s not white right now? So couldn’t possibly be a leader or run a team or whatever . Ridiculous..

I've been a critical of Pole...I thought he was very strong in his carries

I would say he is a leader, just not the leader we were hoping for in regards to taking control of the game as a 7.

His personality, talk and efforts defensively were certainly leadership quality on and off the field. Worth over 1mil? Well thats another discussion i guess, but its harsh to say he isnt a leader.

A lot of the players that played and won 4 grand finals with him say he is, ill take their word for it.
It’s easy to appear like you are leading when you are in a squad that is jam packed with international level talent, that also contains legitimate leadership (Yeo, Cleary and Fish).
Far too many times last year when games were in the balance and the less experienced were seeking guidance on how to close the game out, he was no where to be found. He went into a bubble and did not stand and deliver.
I’d also point to his social media stuff during the Galvin episodes.
He is a good soldier, but not a leader.

He is just about the strongest ball runner of any middle forward in the game 23y.o or under.
I reckon he sometimes doubts himself, but once he matures and really backs himself he will become one of the best middles in the NRL.
I’d be moving heaven and earth to keep him long term.

Yep that was nice. He also stifled quite a few opportunities. I’m a big AD fan, but Javon came
on and within a 10min period did everything in the red zone that I’ve never seen from AD or Luai.

Yeah im not a fan of AD at 7 one bit. Our shape with him there looks poor. As an individual he looks good, but as for being whats best for the team he ruins any shape or structure. It works ok when Latu on at lock because of how straight he plays, it opens up the edges. But when Latu isnt there, everything is too sideways.

Im a massive NO for Doueihi at 7.

Great post. I’ll be watching Douhie in future for his tackling technique.
I too was suprised with geyer. A bit rough around the edges but he kept turning up with energy.
