LIVE game discussion. Tigers Team Vs Penrith - Trial#2

1. Douhie can’t tackle with his right shoulder. It’s a problem when defending on the right because it means you have to put your head in front of the ball carrier’s body to make contact with your left shoulder. It’s why he broke his jaw last year. Saw him do it again last night. It’s also why he gets beaten on the outside a lot when defending on the right edge. Compare it to how well he defended when playing left centre for us. I am disappointed he has not worked on this over the off season.
I d not agree with this assessment at all.
When you are on the right, you lead with your inside shoulder - the left.
It is the hardest part of the field to defend for most people as the majority are right handed, thus their right shoulder is dominant. It is the wrong one to use.

How about you use your own intuition and experience whilst watching the games get played and the words spoken outside of them?
Don’t have any? Then by all means consider my opinion….however a word of warning - shitting on someone else’s opinion whilst not arguing the point or providing one of your own just makes you look stupid.
I don’t need a warning from you mate, i disagree with your “opinion” as I have provided my reasoning and you straight out dismiss it based on your own criteria that you then present as fact ..it is just your opinion and i disagree with your opinion on this matter…stating it so strongly doesn’t make it any more correct ..your opinion pretty much is that last season on the field with this club Jerome failed to ice a few games and therefore you claim he is not a leader, a very small sample size and a very subjective criteria.. and also a matter of judgement .. i though Jerome showed leadership during the Galvin saga, you didn’t , its a matter of opinion … as I don’t know him personally the way i see him act on field indicates to me he is a leader, the way all his teammates talk about him makes me fully believe he is a leader in their eyes… you see it differently , as you are entitled to, but i dont see it like you do as I disagree with your reasoning.

Really? I think it would have already been messing with him. Taking that off the table for a whole season before rd 1 even starts would be a big mental blow IMO.
I've not known too many players to care about personal accolades nor change their approach to a footy game to try to gain them. Hence, I can't see why he would be giving Dally Ms or not being in contention a second thought. We've also seen him year on year play bloody good footy both before and after being ruled out of contention by suspension in the past. So it doesn't appear to have ever affected him before.

Why do you think it would be a mental blow?

….and that’s fine….you can think that. See how I didn’t belittle your opinion?
I’m holding out for proper leadership to enter this club.

Actually, the correct technique is to make sure your head is not in front of their body at collision as that is how you get injured, so the tackler is meant to hit the ball carrier with whatever shoulder allows them to have their head to the side of their body as their shoulder drives in, never in front.

I agree. The guy is a pro and will prepare as per normal for a big premiership season, SOO campaign and later a World Cup title defence.

If that’s how you used to defend, I’m glad I wasn’t in your team. It would have been so easy to step inside and past you.
Using your outside shoulder to tackle a runner coming from your inside squares you up as the defender, exposing the man on your inside. It is poor technique.

Did you actually read what I said? Obviously if they step in side you use your left shoulder but Douhei is using his left shoulder when they are outside him (on the right side) and that is why his head is in front of their body and down as they run onto him.. its how he got injured , as the poster is alluding to

I’m not interested in psycho analysing this too much, but my initial thoughts were that this is a guy that’s already done it all. He strikes me as a very high achieving, goal orientated person. I’m pretty comfortable in guessing winning a Dally M was very, very high on his 2026 goal checklist. To remove that carrot before a ball is kicked would be a mental blow in my eyes. But maybe you know Nathan better than me.

The majority of your defending when on the right will be with your left shoulder. It’s not a problem to be primarily using it when on the right because it is the correct one to use.
Sure if he is attempting to tackle a runner coming from his outside in then the left shoulder is wrong but that’s not the impression I got from the original poster. If that’s what you meant @Wiz, then yes he needs to correct that.

Yeah fair enough. If he did set that as a goal then yeah it could be. I wouldn't expect it to be the case as Typically from a sports psychology viewpoint you don't set goals where the outcome can be determined from someone outside your team environment (as in the dally m judges) but who knows what personal goals he has or hasn't in fact set for himself.

Yes I meant when Douhie defends on the right and tackles players running to his outside. He uses his left shoulder (or tries to) instead of his right.

Outside of our defensive red zone with a compressed defensive line Douhie will find himself mostly inside his opposite and will be needing to slide out to make the tackle which technically should be made with the right shoulder to keep his head out of the way

I agree that Javon Andrews is a very classy young player and with his size can skill he has a very high ceiling.
But just think how good Latu Fainu would look with the time and space Jock Madden creates for his 5/8.
We currently have 5 good halves which is very unlike Wests Tigers.
What does that mean? we will lose at least 3.
