Whilst I agree, Jennings made well over 100m and Thompson was butt ordinary
C’mon mate ..he had one bad half but you’d prefer Jennings ?
I have been very critical of Nofos defence but he had a great game tonight. Thompson was hopeless tonight. On form you would have the wingers as Nofo and Jennings ... who doesn’t make mistakes.
Always respect your opinion ck but....
Nofo and JENNINGS as the wingers???????
Thommo is twice the winger JENNINGS is.
JENNINGS did not have any better game than Thommo.
If you take this Tack - Thommo gave then 2 tries, and JENNINGS bombed 2 tries.
Move Doueihi to FB, Thommo to wing and JENNINGS TO 'Z' grade, where he belongs.
Thompson - 12 points directly
Jennings - *potentially* Four points and much uncertainty surrounding the second... if he reached out with four players hanging off his coat tails and scored we’d all be in awe. He probably didn’t expect to get so close and as I said previous his killer instinct (if it’s alive) has disappeared and think he’s had a rough trot
So, that’s not counting catches made/errors (Jennings wins), tackling and cover attempts ?(pretty even tonight you’d say) - Thompson grabbed daylight when Hunt went through and Norman dropped it. People haven’t counted this potential game changer to his clanger tonight.
Defensive ability and general awareness? Probably the only even category I’d say.
Getting themselves into try scoring positions?
Not truly stifling any attack we produce?
Well... I rest my case
If you insist on simplifying it that much
In fairness to Thompson, it was Garner that missed the initial tackle up the field…he cost us 6 points, but his 2nd half was solid. Both fullbacks had an ugly day and Doueihi also dropped one cold with no pressure, so it wasn’t like he was flawless either.
But I reckon Doueihi makes that chase and definitely doesn’t give away a penalty try.
It was a bit more than an ugly day in office
Anyway, you are right. Garner missed initially but was solid after that and Adam, great 2nd half. Jennings only made one error including tackling yesterday and that was the try that didn’t cost us.
Corey’s all heart but any other fullback in the league is doing what he did in chasing Frizell x2. That’s not anything to be considered for!
There were about 3 Dragons tries that were botched where the lead up had nothing to do with Thompson. The truth is, we got lucky and we have a lot to work on across the park.
In the penalty try, the ball took a turn away from Thompson towards their winger and no player was getting there. Freak moment and they happen. The dropped ball though was poor and directly cost us points. I can't agree on the penalty try though.
Our blown tries were 50/50 in my opinion and weren't as clear cut as dropping the ball with the line wide open (even the Jennings one, he may have been bundled into touch).
We had sustained attack on their line for most of the 2nd half and couldn't crack them. Lots of work to do across the team and I wouldn't be blaming one player for the overall shortcomings. While there were some good signs, attack and defence need lots of work.
We both disagree about the penalty try but it was still Corey who couldn’t clean up. Jennings effort on the other side to a similar kick in the first half led to Ravalawa’s missing majority of the game. That’s what I call sufficient effort, to get back deep and bat it dead over any consequence...
Thompson couldn’t even turn past the player or compete fairly due to natural lack of size.
Pretty clear cut situations for you and I to observe - I actually forgive Corey’s dropped ball and of course were clearly on the same page here - in that our fullback didn’t do HIS job.
I’ve never sought to “be blaming one player for the overall shortcomings” and almost definitely believe Doueihi has C.T covered and our young juniors or even Momi could replace Jennings.
Only one that wasn’t a 50/50 was the burrow over.
Any other player out on the football field scores that regardless of ability, so that’s where I’ve previously stated he cost us momentum.
Was lucky that MCK and Nof also provided GREAT chase on their 3-4 bombed tries after that.
Cheers for having such strong opinion, btw
