Forward Matthew Lodge, 20, was arrested at a home in Marayong yesterday and taken to Blacktown police station where he was charged with six counts of assault as well as malicious damage and stalking and intimidation that police allege occured between August 8 and 20.

A provisional apprehended violence order was issued and Lodge was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court on August 28.

It's pretty clear what the charges are, and if proven will surely spell the end of his career.

I don't know. It's too hard to see from the outside with relationship disputes. My experience tells me either or both could be playing all kinds of nasty games. His partner may well know of his past indiscretions and be playing on those for all they're worth. On the other hand he could be a violent (fillintheblank-naughtyword) and should cop it. Hopefully a good magistrate will sort the stories.

These idiots are filled with too much testosterone and macho bs. It's why when there's ever a minor push and shove in a game, 10 guys rush in, chomping at the bit to show how tough they are. Shouldn't be too much of a surprise that there are some who carry it into their personal lives as well.

Lets wait for the outcome of the upcoming court case before throwing this guy under the bus.

Any kind of violence or harassment against women is abhorrent. However, his is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

6 counts of assault, not just one. Hard to argue passion or mistake or "uncharacteristic behaviour".

We will sack him and in 12 months the Roosters or Souths will sign him and there'll be a feel good story by Weidler about him on 9\. The way it usually works

Who cares about his talent.

He's proving himself to be an outstanding human and someone we can have as a team leader in the future.

I'd be very surprised if people like him can count past 5 tackles.

Hardly a comparison….I dunno about DV but I do know about contact sport, adrenalin, sticking up for a team mate and how easy things can escalate

Theyre tough blokes playing the toughest sport on earth....but if you think its macho BS- generally speaking - then I think youre mistaken

I really can't see that he is all that special as a player TBH. Haven't seen a whole lot of his games but he hasn't been a standout by any means.

I don't think they would take the risk. He has actually done nothing in fg yet, people think he has potential, but he has not had one great game yet. If he is guilty of what is rumoured, good teams won't touch him, only the also rans.

People here are still assuming the worst because of his 'history'. There is a wide spectrum of possibilities independent of his history. Yes he comes across as a hothead that acts before thinking but it takes two to tangle. As others have said, if proven he should face the full brunt of the law, no sympathy, but at least give him a fair hearing.

Even if he is guilty look at Souths Cowboys etc letting players like Av'a; Lui etc all play again.

I don't care what other grubby clubs and their scabby fans do. If Lodge is guilty I won't be helping to pay his wages, and I'll tell the membership department that if it comes to it.

a question..if he is found guilty and is sacked…do we have to pay out his final year from our cap.

Would be a breach of contract I'd imagine,,,so no…
