Lote Tuqiri thread

You have got too look at what impact he will have on the team, as to whether or not he should come. What team would we rather see. Having Turqiri may force Moltzen to move to Halfback permanently if he decides to play Tuqiri at the no1 as Sheens has stated openly. Without Tuqiri, we will see Moltzen most likely shift to Fb and either Lui or Taumata playing the pivot role with Benji. Or perhaps we could see Mullaney come up from the NYC and play FB and Moltzen move to HB with Benji where e was so great at the end of last season. Personally the introduction of young talent such as Taumata and Mullaney is a much better looking prospect to me than having tuqiri here. Yeh he brings the $$$$$$ but really Mullaney is a much more potent player than Tuqiri is now.. and hes young. We need to hold onto our young guns especially Mullaney

Do i think Tuqiri will come… yes..... do i want him to come... welll thats a completely different story  :sign: :sign:

I spoke with a very good mate who works at WT last night.

He told me that Tuqiri's name is rarely mentioned. He in fact said that other players who we have missed out on where more on the radar than Lotto was. ie Lima. He also told me for a fact that 3rd party endorsements for the money they put down on the table for Lotto amounted to $150K but that was in November. He said the actual NRL contract offer was not big at all.

So we are looking at about $205K a year which is a contradiction to what we have been told and what others have said.

Now when you think about it, Lotto can get 3 times that amount in the UK. I asked him straight out if a deal had been done and he said 'No'. I then asked him if they expected Lotto to be with us and he said they expected a definitive answer many weeks ago, and they pushed up last Thursday for an answer and hoped for an answer by today.

Not looking good for the Lotto lovers.

I asked him who is training at fullback. He said he hadn't watched them too much but all of the fullback options were playing 5/8-ballplayer type rolls in some of the drills he had seen so it was hard to tell.

Interesting stuff.

Are Lui,Taumata and Mullaney ready?? Are they physically up to to the 26 + weeks of NRL?

I have only seen Lui in the back end of 09 so its a genuine question to those who follow NYC closley

There is no place to hide an underdone #7 or #1 especially with the way WT play the game.

–-------------- The Business Side of me wants Lote, The Fan side of me says we will get by OK without him and the speculation is becoming counter productive....

Call me strange but i'm glad to hear this. I ask myself one question. Do we need Lote? The answer? No. Not for one second. If we signed him i believe that he would offer us two things. One, like Benji or Robbie, he would become a great promotional tool. Secondly he would bring a wealth of experience which no doubt would be invaluable to our younger players. From an on field perspective he would offer us little that we already have in our ranks.

Now the matter of his supposed doubts over weather to stay at Leicster or head here is another matter again. I would say as anyone else would, we need players who are committed to the cause 100% Lote doesn't appear to ever have.He threw Souths a decoy before opting for union, then he screwed the rah-rah's over and now he appears to treading a similar path with us right now. Cop the tip, we're probably better off without him. We'll be okay without him.

At the end of the day, if we sign him, good. I'll be happy because as i said above he will bring us some good , useful benefits. If he doesn't come, it's far from a blow.

I think Mullaney is ready for regular first team football. He showed last year that he was a cut above the rest of the competition by scoring tries atw ill at the back end of the season, showing he has the class and the skill to play in the WT first grade team. He will definently suit the attacking nature of the Tigers FG team. He can also kick goals…. amazing grace!!! Hes like a faster version of hodgo, slight in frame, but hugein heart, not afraid to put his body on the line and also there to back up the break or offload something that all great fullbacks should do. Also it will allow Moltzeen to play the preffered halfback role where he and benji combined so well at the back end of last season.

I was told that Lima will be with us by someone who would have been coaching him. If he does not come, it looks like that person has also been lead down the garden path or hopefully has just been misinformed.

Why don't you ask this person?

:astonished: Sheens said he hopes to add Lote to the list by the time RL Summertimes Airs…......... :unamused:

Some things are VERY clear by now re Lote.

1\. Sheens just said Tuqiri "would have been announced by the time this goes to air" (Jan 22)

2\. People from our club let the Daily Terror know last weekend that "next week it will be announced".

Everything…....absolutely everything...screams out that this week gone by was 100% the time the announcement was to be made. Anyone who can't see that is naive.

It looks a hell of a lot like Tuqiri is having second thoughts.

Realistically, he can get a hell of a lot more $$ in Euro rugby and he's likely thinking that way.

The bloke has a long history of crap like this. Let's see, but at this stage I'll be very bloody surprised if he joins us.

Sheens said "Hope" not would…...I've been caught out before.......

And did he know when the show was going to air?

Dunno….but it's on the Wests Tigers website....

I think $$$$....might still be the issue for Lortay......

Im still thinking he's here.
Sheens' never ever ever talks about things that may or may not happen, of course that an easy way of getting out of the constant hypotheticals thrown to him by journos week after week…Ive heard Sheens mention Tuquiri in a positive light sveral times now, he's usually way too cagey otherwise..
But personally...I couldnt give a rats either way, like Pete posted...theres some benefit I guess if he does front...I also see plenty if he dont.

My contact in the club said its a done deal and has been for months, funny another post said his contact indicated the opposite. Anyway the bottom line is most contract these days have a million "get out clauses" in favor of the player, so if Lotte really wants to chase the dollar in Rugby Iam sure what ever if any deal he has with the tigers can be dissolved. Also a lot off stuff that is leaked out of the club has to be taken with a grain of salt

Supercoach…sorry mate, but that's BS.

"My contact says it's done"......................but it could be "dissolved".

I.e. you win either way.

Honestly, people are making up crap galore on here.

hahaha very true cnx
i will say tho, i asked one of the players the other day if lote was still coming and he believed lote was given a timeline, which came.. and went and tigers didnt hear from him….. and went on to say the same offer wont he available if lote came back.
wonder is its possible to pay some of next yrs wages this yr with our available money so we can free up some cash to make a couple of big purcheses next yr??

Just read this on the Leicester Tigers forum, it seems Arron Mauger is leaving them …....

"".Re: Mauger to leave, so hope this makes room for Lote
from everything I have read and listened too, I think Lote thought Tigers would be a short term thing, but over the weeks he has been here he has been impressed with the club, supporters and is even getting to like the weather....

I don't think him leaving is as cut and dried as it was when he arrived. i for one have been really impressed with the way ho goesw looking for the ball, rucking tackling etc. Compared to the reputation that preceeded him it is like he is a different person.""

My thoughts have changed re Tuqiri, I now hope he stays where he is, we can do without him, he is an unknown quantity, can't make up his mind, and when he finally does make up his mind he will put one of our wingers who has been traning hard in the off season - out of a job, not fair, let him stay in England if he's happy there! I shall be praying that he does.

I dont know what your on about–-All I was saying that a lot of things are leaked out of the club and what I was told was 100% different to what someone else was told by a insider within the club. I was not saying my info was correct or the other post was wrong. Anyway the whole thing is getting a little bit silly now and maybe this Lotte thing is becoming a negative for the club rather than the big positive the club had hopped.
