Luke Brooks has the YIPS!

Brooks had the yips in his debut game and played uncharacteristically well, since then he has delivered effluent. He should deliberately try to take the wrong options, that way he will get more of them right.

In sports, the YIPS are a sudden and unexplained loss of ability to execute certain skills in experienced athletes. Symptoms of the YIPS are losing fine motor skills and psychological issues that impact on the muscle memory and Decision Making of athletes leaving them unable to perform basic skills of their sport. Treatments include Sports Psychology therapy. The worst cases are those where an athlete does not recover at all forcing the player to abandon the sport at the highest level.
In summary Brooksy has "Performance Anxiety ".
I could be wrong but it looks more like fear of failure to me.
So while I don't completely disagree with your suggestion (that he has some type of performance anxiety) it's hard to say whether he has YIPS, as that's more physiological and he only appears to be immobilised/choking in the moment or spontaneously.
You can literally see when he's inside his own head rather than the actual game.
Who knows though as both are debilitating and yips does, in some circumstances, build up/form over time.

That's JMO on the topic. However, with all due respect I don't think there's too many on the forum who'd be qualified to make a proper assessment on this.

🤔 I wonder if this YIPS is contagious
Btw I think brooks suffers most of his YIPS on the 5th tackle
For example like the other day when he had a brain explosion on the last & just surrendered
💁‍♂️

I think if I was coach I would do 2 options
play him at Centre , he is fast , quick turn of speed and he can defend , got some zip
or
off the bench , covering , wings , Centre , half , 5/8 , Hooker , he could play any of these if needed
pressure off him And team get a new director or ball playing 5/8
No neither! ship him off to England..
If he is a million dollar player he will dominate the super league or be exposed once and for all. Man of steel or nothing. I predict nothing! sorry Brooks fans can on take so much for SO LONG.

Brooks is more of an opportunist than he is a scheming half, so he excels in open play.
How do we get more open footy happening?
ATM, we have a couple of forwards going through the front door, but nobody does it better than Klemmer. Utoikamanu is not far behind either, but our other 2 middles are momentum killers.
IMO, our spine needs to settle and we could trade up on Seyfarth and / or Twal.
The team hopefully will click into gear after a few more games.
Our 17 is as good or better than we’ve had over the last decade, they just need to gel. So, this is as much a test of the coaching team than anything else.

I know this is left field, but could Brooks be a centre? His attributes are his speed, his defence and his commitment. All of these are required as a centre. His deficiencies at the moment are his kicking game, his ability to make correct decisions at critical moments and his general playmaking ability. At centre he won't be needed to kick, make 5th tackle decisions and ball play.

Is there a new contract for Brooks still on the Wests Tigers desk?

Sheens is probably still trying to work out if it should be 5 years at 1.2m or 7 years at 1.1m.
Although to be honest i am begining to wonder if it is the CLUB who keep on insisting we keep him and not every coach who has been consistently overuled,to be honest the CLUB is that dumb it could be the case.

I reckon the poor (not literallty) bloke needs to get away from us as much as we need to cut the chord. The powers that be if they care about his career as much as they profess should be doing their best now to make it happen instead of trying to move on anymore coaches, players, and or find new positions to accommodate him.

Coaches, “yeah sure get rid of Brooksy and sign me a quality replacement, someone in the top echelon”

Pascoe “LOL”

I was thinking the board rather than Pascoe "the dopes who can't be removed".Pascoe is not great but he along with everybody else at the club is at their collective mercy

Sheens and Benji surely realise Brooks in not a 7... otherwise why go so hard after Moses. They must have another 7 target they should be trying their best to get right now.
I thought Brooks would be great as a running, eyes up 6 but doubt that now as well. For the benefit of Brooks, Club and members we need to let him go.

It definitely hasn't worked out that way.

For a player with a supposed 'great running game' he telegraphs every move and the opposition read it easily (hence he keeps getting quickly tackled on tackle 6). He either passes 1.5-2m before he gets to the line or puts his head down and runs straight into the defence, there's no attempt at deception or leaving options open as the play starts to unfold.
