Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

He is a completely different player compared to the start of the year when he was at halfback.

Some of the stuff he does are incredibly hard skills, but he makes it look easy. E.g. the passing to our wingers and centres is so good. He knows how to isolate defenders to get one-on-ones or have the defence sliding really hard, which opens space for short, flat passes. That signature kick to Maumalo is another thing he does really well.

Guys like T'oa and Laurie are getting time to ball-play 3 passes wide. This has been our biggest strength. Laurie is deadly in space when it's 3 on 3. One of the harder players in the competition to defend in that situation.

I feel like the closest comparison in player I can think of is Victor Radley. Plays the game hard and can do surprisingly skillful things. I actually think his best position could be lock, if his body allows for the physicality needed to play that position.
LB: "Stop mum, you're embarrassing me"

Kinda hilarious that the way to get the best out of Brooks was to have him touch the ball as little as possible

Before he went to dummy half he had barely touched it, didn't kick much and only ran 3 times all day.

Was more Hastings being great than Brooks being good. Brooksy had some good moments for sure but he's still our top paid player and has been relegated to a support 5/8 role and that is a problem.

Where u getting your stats from?

The Hastings and Brooks combo is working and we still have a decent amount of money under the cap so not sure where the problem lies apart from your dislike of Brooks and your bias for Doueihi

Funny as we have had two fantastic wins over competition heavyweights .. Brooks has contributed highly in both yet.. never mind

Dally M votes: 3 - Jackson Hastings. 2 - Luke Brooks. 1 - David Nofoaluma. Judge: Roy Masters.

Or maybe..that's how the team feels about Brooks..
They may have, but they definitely didn't show it before. Anyway the point of my post was mainly that you give the player what they need or want to get the best out of them. I feel the over the top positive reinforcement from Hastings and Co seems to help Brooks.

If Brooks "Can't Handle" Criticism... I'd love to meet the bloke that can!!

He's been basically media bashed in some form or another from 18 years old...

He's basically carried the woes of the whole shit show of an organisation since forever - Never complained - Turned up every week....

And can still muster the resolve to collapse blokes as big as Matto week after week....
Treats our jumper with respect - Decent bloke off and on the field....

I'd like to have shoulders that broad.
The load might have become too much to keep carrying such a heavy burden on those shoulders over the off-season, that he or his manager thought moving clubs may have unburdened that load.

Thing is, the guy has honoured his contract, put in every week despite the load exponentially increasing and with his team-mates by his side, finally been able to smile and relax again.

Not only did his team-mates, staff and coaches want to welcome him back into the dressing room last week, I bet that he received plenty of messages of support from widely across the NRL as a whole.
