Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

While that may be true, you’re talking about Adam Reynolds the Souths half, not the Broncos half.
I think Moses put it succinctly when asked post game about the battle with his opposing half Luke Brooks..it’s a lot easier to look good when your forwards are going forward.
Agree about the forwards.

Would be nice to see Brooks learn a bit from Mitch about telling player to get up you ....

We need him to be way more vocal and bring his forwards into the game. its a two way street.

I see how you are looking at it, Fair enough.

However ill just keep it simple and say 90% of the league would rather those 8 players over Luke Brooks if they had a choice.

Personally id take Sexton, Illias and Schneider as well because id prefer their upside over the guy who is middle of the road.

I'm with you mate - Who doesn't want all the best players in our team.
But you've got the pry them away from their best mates, Pay them a shit tin, and have decent players for them to play with... We're 0/3 (Until more recently)

And we can buy the best up and coming half and throw him in all you like, We'll get the exact same thing. - We've already seen what happens, We did it with Brooks.
When Brooks come in, We had players like Benji, Farah, Blair, Tedesco (Still young) Woods in his prime, Galloway, Lawrence... And we've killed him.

We're slowly waking to where we need to be... But we're still playing favourites in certain positions. eventually, the cream will rise up and we'll be able to sign one or 2 more star players and then we'll have a decent run for a change.

@batboy
I don't like Pearce's game but as bad as we/you may think Pearce is, he was still miles ahead of Brooks. 19 Origin selections ain't a fluke.

Not every team is going to win or make finals. That's a given. But see Johns the year Newcastle spooned, or Thurston when NQ spooned. Their own class was never in question. Not so in this case. If Brooks was good enough in his own right there wouldn't be this constant argument.
And after 8 years, or 9 years, whatever - we have seen enough to know by now that this guy doesn't cut it. It's time for change. We gotta try something different.

Exactly my point mate - You're comparing him to Johns and JT...
2 types of Players you and I probably didn't see before them, Or will ever see after them.

He's not Thurston, He's not Johns, He's not Cronk or Lockyer... No one "rational" is expecting to be... (Funny you mention Joey - When him and his club are chasing Brooks so hard)
Hell, He's not even Keary, Or Cleary... And may not be Reynolds...
But we can't buy those guys... And unless we do - I feel we're not in a position to "experiment"

Until now, We've had no better replacement available to us that's better than Brooks, (Unless you think we should have paid Townsend 850k?) - Until there are other options of a higher standing, We'd be better off playing back rowers at centre... Because then they'll have an excuse.
And Brooks will go straight to an above average side and get above average results. No question.

Now, If our above average half, is surrounded by above average players - He might get above average results - And these conversations don't exist.

Everyone wants a Johns, Or JT, Or Cronk... But they just don't make enough of them.

I like Brooks but he needs support in a solid 1 , 6 and 9 with him. Would be nice if we still had teddy and Moses.

Perhaps it’s time to try a new 7

I don’t even know anymore. It’s been so long since we’ve had a winning season

So many waffling on about how much better Brooks would be in a better team lol.
Truth is he’d still be no better than he is here… but in a better team.
A better team doesn’t improve his long kicking, game management or lack of vision as a halfback.
From the look of last weeks trial Hastings will take over most of what Brooks does bad.
Hopefully he can then make us happy by just sticking to something he is ok at ….running.

One thing a good team does is get in better field position and offer their half more room/time to operate. Kicking a ball from a better field position with more time/space has got to be better than kicking a ball under pressure and from quite a few metres back.

Reality is the only thing this bloke has is somewhat of a running game. Execution in the red zone, kicking game, passing game is absent and this is all tied up with his lack of vision., its glaringly obvious each time the ball gets to him on 5th or 4th tackle and it seems to stagnate either immediately, or after he accelerates for a little, giving you hope that something is about to happen, but ultimately amounts to nothing. The play starts with him, if he was an above average half the team would look like they have a gameplan, the final execution is a different story, but our team simply never look like they have any sort of structure in attack right from the very first instance of an attacking play, and that falls on him.

So, now if it rains he gets automatic pass? and for multiple weeks?
Does every half in the comp get this generosity?

And for how many weeks? 4?
What if it rains 8 times throughout the year? Just ignore those games then?

It's a comical excuse but hey kudos to you anyway...at least it's original.
Nice to meet you. I was referring to a new ½'s combination in the attrocious weather conditions which I though they did extremely well considering it was their first hit out together, they did better that the roosters as far as handling the slippery water melon goes.
For the rest of your comments, ah... I have no comments 🥴

Reynolds is solid ,with a good kicking game but rarely runs more then 10 metres. He has the Australian hooker, a NSW 5/8. Mitchel at FB , a great forward pack and geat flankmen. The same with the Panthers, Storm, Easts, Manly and the other sides in the 8 are all quality. How can anyone compare his performance in a dud side, to the other halves, many of which were not the main playmakers anyway. Compare apples to apples,

Well said, and the true value of a player is what the market would pay for him.Other coaches see the value of him, and he would get similar money if he was avaliable. Tell me if AD was on the market, who would buy him as either 5/8, centre or FB on the money he is currently on ?

Conversely you could say all those teams have good halfbacks… we don’t.
