Yeh i just like tall big bodies at the back
Agree. In the absence of a great fullback happy to go for height. However Douehi isn’t the quickest and a fullback needs to be, so we’d have to see how he goes.
Remember the great fullbacks were not big eg Slater, Jack, Tedesco, Churchill, Hodgson 😊 Bigger guys that transition to fullback and excel there, like Turbo and Inglis, are generally the exception.

Walters has a crap ton of talent at his fingers ,but couldnt coach his way out of a paper bag imo
He has them in a complete mess. How do you have one of the premier halfbacks in the game, yet just last week out came out and said he still didn’t know who will be his halves partner. They should have made the decision at the start of pre-season, yet Walters was saying the jumper was still up for grabs going into the last trial. Least with Madge, he made it known early on who the halves would be.

I've said this before, but I think Toa will have the fullback position by EOY. I like Laurie but I think Toa is better.

To a would make a good fb. Unlike props fullbacks can come in all sizes. It’s the high level of skill that’s needed rather than size. The smaller guys that are a little zippy are used as an extra 6 or 7.

True. If we can get opposition's running backwards a bit more Laurie can do damage.

Luke Brooks has addressed the uncertainty around his NRL future that almost saw the Tigers halfback join the Knights over the summer.

Speculation around Brooks' future has become synonymous with the Tigers' struggles on-field and again resurfaced over the off-season after Michael Maguire's side failed to reach the finals for a 10th straight year.

In the wake of Mitchell Pearce's sudden decision to move to French-based Super League outfit Catalans, Newcastle were reportedly eyeing off a move for Brooks as his replacement.

Having faced the wrath of disappointed Tigers fans for several years, the move to Newcastle, where he'd be working under Knights great and the club's new halves coach Andrew Johns, appeared like a good fit for Brooks at this stage of his career.

Speaking to 7News, Brooks admitted the opportunity to work under Johns would've been alluring but he's happy to remain at Concord and excited for the year ahead.

“You sort of hear the stuff and you can get a bit frustrated, but you’ve just got to worry about what you can do,” Brooks told 7NEWS.

“He (Johns) was probably the best player in the world, so it would have been good, (to play under him) but I’m here at the Tigers.

“I guess there is always going to be talk about it, (but) I’m with the Tigers, I’m excited about staying here.”

Despite finishing 13th in 2021, their worst end to a season in six years and their worst result under coach Maguire, Brooks is confident the club is on the up, admitting a big part of why he wanted to stay was to prove that to the fans.

"I think we are definitely moving in the right direction,” he declared.

“I want to see this club successful and if I am playing my best footy we are a chance at doing that.”

Brooks also accepted the scrutiny that comes with his role as the side's chief playmaker, saying it doesn't affect him.

“Not everyone’s going to be a fan of you," he said.

"From a young age I just sort of learned to not read too much into it and, when I can, just stay away from that sort of stuff."

The Tigers will kick start their season against title heavyweights the Storm, in a match that will see Brooks and new recruit Jackson Hastings line up alongside each other in the halves.

Brooks said he's enjoyed working with Hastings, a former Man of Steel winner in the Super League, over the off-season and believes the pair can strike up a strong combination in 2022.

“I was really happy with the way we sort of worked together, he (Hastings) will add a lot to our attack," he said.

Awesome a Brooks fluff piece. Something about being good to work with Johns but excited to remain a plodder for us so he can stick it up the fans for yet another season, but if he plays his best footy we will probably come ninth. So inspiring, no wonder he is one of our five captains.

There were complaints Brooks didn't come out and squash the speculation on moving to the Knights.. Now he has there are still complaints..go figure..

I tend to agree about having size at the back - and we know AD can handle fullback well.
At this point though Daine hasn't put a foot wrong.
I think Hastings at half with Daine at five eighth, plus those guys at the back, could make us a stronger and more dangerous team.
Brooks and Nofo are dinosaurs.
AD can handle fullback well ? I must have missed those games.LOL

According to fox sports stars Brooks had the same amount of try assists from the same amount of games as Jarome Hughes. I can guarantee you he wasn't given anywhere near the attacking opportunities as Hughes was. Yet Hughes was praised all last season whilst half of our daft fan base label Brooks borderline pathetic in attack.
The reality is Brooks is a decent halfback in an ordinary team. Yes, he does have faults in his game but aside from Cleary and DCE Brooks is no worse than any of the other halves going around.

I guess it's not about stats it's about what the team needs, take for instance, last night game. O'Sullivan's focused on the basics kicking to winger all game and his defence and they killed it

Brooks has always lacked that killer instinct to stick to a game plan and harass the opposition in attack. Let's them off easy too many times.

To be fair if our blokes competed/chased Brooks kicks like the Panthers players do his kicking game would not look so ordinary. The difference in attitude was blatant.
