Luke Brooks: That Punch

Well Brooks stood up for himself, did the 10 mins in the Bin cost us NO it actually fired up the team.
Twal giving away a professional foul and ending up with 10 as well did cost us.

We have been critical of Brooks this season not stepping up but since the news that Benji won't be there Brooks has, i just wish that Benji did not go for the kick on the 3rd tackle to no one and way too deep, rather of seen Brooks with another kicking option on the 5th but it never eventuated.

Good TEAM performance to come back again, if we can resolve our terrible starts the 1st 25 mins in games we can win more next season.

Enjoyed the game and the fire from Brooks.

Stupidity cost us the game ....if he'd used his head after gagai hit him 1st we could have evened the numbers up

This is exactly what I mean ......these blokes don't have an ounce of footy sense about them

Gagai wouldn’t have been binned for just throwing the ball though ..
Gagai getting 10 was a square up from Cummins .
I loved it ....
Bring back the biff ..
So sick of watching grown men swing handbags .

Gagai hits him 1st ...they showed it after both were sinbinned

Meh....
Piss weak D cost us ...

We were all over them Hobbo ...we'd evened the numbers up at that stage and we probably go on and win

OK example ...if that had been someone like Lewis ...he goes down ...OK he looks like a pussy ...but he gets the right result for the team

Footy smarts ...pity you can just snap them up at Aldi

I understand you were a bit of a legend on the footy field Hap ,well done...

BUT Hobbo told me you have more Oscar awards than footy awards....Hollywood here comes Hap...

Happy won best frock at the Oscars ?
Talk about a skirt ?

Souths winger Dane Gagai and Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks are facing a two-match ban after being charged for striking during the melee involving players from both teams on Thursday night at Bankwest Stadium.

Each player has been handed a grade-one striking offence but can halve their suspension with an early guilty plea.

Gagai and Brooks were sin-binned for their part in the 51st-minute incident.

Tigers lock Alex Twal, who coincidentally was also sent to the sin bin for a professional foul a few minutes earlier, has been charged with grade-one dangerous contact for a 41st-minute incident involving Rabbitohs prop Mark Nicholls.

Twal is facing a one-match ban but can escape suspension with an early guilty plea.

The binning should've been penalty enough

I can understand that throwing punches is a definate no no in todays game, but heat of the moment and frustration can over take sensibility sometimes....

I recall back in the day it was a frequent occurance when I played, sometimes it was an expectation to smack someone..
I remember punching a player that was playing for Young in 1984..he kept pulling players hair,he pulled mine a couple of times and I belted him...
The time come to face the ref..
"Im going to penalise you Ziggy for hitting the opposite player"
I said he has been pulling hair all game, what game have you been reffing sir..
""he replied ,"this one and you wont be in it much longer if you keep backchatting'

Didn't noticee what Twal did, I wonder if it's defendable?

Crusher tackle on the bald dude Nichols

There was no malice in it imo

Possibility of Grant at #7, Liddle to start, Reynolds on bench?

My main issue was that he didn't drop Gagai with the punch, because Gagai is a Grade-A jerk and he deserves a full-fist punch in that stupid face of his.

Within the context of the rules, it was dumb, even if totally provoked. Brooks was lucky that the ref decided to square it up, because he could potentially have been marched alone for a blatant punch, whereas Gagai was more of a cat scratch.

I still have an issue that you can act like a total monkey out there so long as you don't actually throw a punch, which is ridiculous. For example, if Brooks had chased Gagai and tackled him, he would not have been sin-binned, or if he had grabbed his jersey and ragdolled him... but he throws a punch and gets in trouble after after having his eyes scratched and being pinged with a football.

I did find this funny...

If I recall correctly I don't think you're allowed to make any contact with the head, so not even a slap or anything like that now. Gagai did strike Brooks in the head, so I don't think the ref was just trying to square things up - he was likely guilty also. But yeah, you're allowed to launch a ball at someone's head.. Go figure.

About time he showed some passion, he looks half asleep most of the time.

Unfortunately throwing a punch isn't going to make him a better player

Hahaha, funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time Mike! The silent majority. Next week they’ll be in there wearing their “bring back the biff t shirts”. Ha ha.Was there a recent rule change to reduce the punishment for punching?

contract for life.....gagai has needed a chinning for a long time and I'm shocked that it took brooks to do it.....

Imagine being so catty that you throw a ball at someones head and expect nothing to happen??? brooks at that point needed to do something but unfortunately only threw one...should've thrown a bunch.....

That's up there with Scott belting Walker.....about time these flogbags got some knuckles

Would have been fantastic had Twal not been in the bin at the time, arguably that probably cost us the game. What was going through Twal's head at the time he got binned is beyond me he must have know that was going to happen.

Especially when there was a reasonable line of defence inplace.

No change. The trouble with punching someone now it’s an automatic sin bin, there can be no discretion by the ref.

I’d wear that t shirt for sure.

If he ends up without any carry over points by fighting the charge even if found guilty, rather than an early plea, then I would go to the judiciary. Much prefer that he miss a nothing game this year than a potentially important one next season because of carry over points.
