He is not effective when running one out anymore. He is also ineffective when he drifts sideways and turns someone back in. He looked good because in the last 10 minutes he had the ball out in front, ran at edge defenders to commit them and run, kick and pass were all live options.

I was the least talented footballer ever, and I'm blinder than blind Freddy after a night out with Joey Johns, but even I can see that our edges are just failing to convert opportunities at the moment

Well Madden is def the controlling halfback type. In fact tjat is his strength as he showed again yest in nsw cup - he kicks well, he puts guys in right positions, he directs a team. Now he is young and needs another year to develop physically and his game before he is fg ready but he is Benjis replacement and the next half we need.

It was really good to see Madden step up in a tough game. Maybe Benji was right after all. It would be good if he can continue to improve and take the 7 from Brooks next year. Brooks could effectively move into the vacated 6.
Liddle quick ball to Madden sounds like it would work too.

Brooks' definition of creativity is lobbing the ball to the opposition's winger rather than fullback on tackle six, now he just needs to get involved occasionally on tackles one through five.
