If we don’t wrap him up, he’s gonna be in demand. Does anyone think the Panthers, Roosters, Storm and the Broncos won’t be interested if he’s unsigned come 2020? No chance.

This is my recruitment point. Most other clubs upgrade players quick smart. Why do we wait so long.
“Hey Josh, I’m going on a holiday. Just wait till I get back and we’ll sign something” - are you kidding? Far out - get the job done!
Resign and upgrade Brooks now.

Correct he has definately earned an extension and upgrade. He has his critics on here but he has had a good season

The difference was that this match the plays came off that what was different against the Dogs. I thought that second half last week Tigers played better than this week only the Dogs were fully awake to our tactics including Brooks' kicking.

But of course full marks to Brooks for this excellent effort and deserves another or two year to see how consistency goes.

Tbh I reckon cleary would feel much more comfortable knowing Brooks will be at the club. That's why I would rather we focus on Brooks first and foremost contract wise

If you were nathan who would you rather play with…a busted 29(30?) Year old Reynolds albeit experienced, or a young up and comer who could potentially play alongside you in origin

I’m a critic of his game management and was proved correct again as he had an easy option to kick the ball out and get us some time, with about 5 to go , but got lost and took the last tackle giving them an opportunity.
He had a pretty decent game apart from that … but I wonder how many good games he can put together in a row.

Yes the odd good game against the others that could of been closed out for the team to be in the 8 right now. As I have said many times his defence has improved and with certain other aspects of his game , is Brooks a keeper well the question is will he lead this team to a premiership imo No !…moving to 5/8 a possibility .I am looking at this from a reality point only , last night went ok but the team struggles.

I guess it depends. I’d love him to stay, but what if he’s now asking for 900k and Cleary wants 1m.

With Reynolds on 750k for 3 more years it’s going to be a lot of cash tied up in the halves which could mean we have Kyle Lovett’s in the forwards.

I’m really hoping we’ve been front loading some of these big contracts.

Brooks for PM. He has been one of our best all year.

Has had a couple of off games but even the best have and had those.

I hope we re-sign him and get Cleary as well.

Cleary praises Brooks after Tigers do it the hard way
By Murray Wenzel
3 August 2018 — 9:04pm

Wests Tigers have inched within a win of the NRL’s top eight, prevailing 25-16 over Newcastle in a fluctuating contest.

Probing Tigers playmaker Luke Brooks was the architect against the error-prone Knights on Friday night, scoring one try and setting up another either side of half-time at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce was benched with a badly corked thigh as the hosts looked out of answers early in the second half.

Down 22-4, they rallied to within six points entering the final 10 minutes before Brooks drilled a field goal to ice the victory.

The Tigers are now just two points behind the eighth-placed New Zealand Warriors, who meet St George Illawarra in a Saturday clash that now looms large.

"We made it harder for ourselves than we needed to or should have, but anyway … in the end we defended when we needed to and got the job done,’’ Tigers coach Ivan Cleary said.

‘‘Brooksy was really good, I thought. He ran the ball whenever he could and seemed to be whenever he did that something good happened.’’

Newcastle’s sleepy first-half display cost them and was one Ken Sio hopes to wipe from his memory.

The winger started the game by kicking the ball out on the full and then did it again 20 minutes later, only this time the ball flew even further past the dead-ball line.

He was then sin-binned after deliberately slowing down the play the ball after Pearce’s loose pass handed the Tigers possession just metres from the line.

In between Sio’s blemishes, the Tigers scored 10 points. Captain Russell Packer spun out of a tackle for the game’s opener.

Newcastle replied through Sione Mata’utia before Brooks restored order by skipping through for the easiest of tries and a 16-4 lead at the break.

He then set up Robbie Farah before Kalyn Ponga and Aidan Guerra replied for the Knights to give hope to their 18,561-strong crowd.

But the Tigers steadied when it mattered, scoring the final three points to keep their finals hopes flickering.

‘‘There was one or two guys there that’ll know where they came up short,’’ Knights coach Nathan Brown said.

‘‘We started to swing the momentum then dropped the ball from the kick-off and the cycle started again.’’

Brown said Pearce was in doubt for next week’s trip to Auckland to play the Warriors, while Benji Marshall (calf) pulled up sore in a concern for the victors.

It seems the biggest question mark over Brooks at the moment is his consistency.
Well below is the Top 5 in the Dally M's for this year, going into Round 21.

Ponga 21
Maloney 20
RTS 20
Smith 20
Brooks 19

So he's not going too bad.

I honestly didn't mind that play. He got the ball short-side and they were on him, so rather than kick poorly he took the tackle. He's done that several times this year, though this was a bit further out.

Tigers then had set defensive line and a bit of a rest, Knights running it out from the short edge. Kept a kick return away from Ponga.

He put in a great touch-finding grubber earlier.

Personally I think the 5th tackle surrender is alright rather than the 7-tackle set risk and staggered defensive line. Tigers back their defence this year.

going forward, if the tigers want to be a force we need to have cleary at 1/2 and brooks at 5/8 they could be there for the next 5-8 years. throw in mybe at the back and a improving liddle at hooker thats a good spine.

Think it helped tonight that Farah didn't overplay his hand.

I'm loving his defence, and it's clearly giving him confidence in his game all 'round.

Would of rathered he did not pass the ball to the side line on the second tackle.

Only saw this once, but was it not also partly Nofo being too deep?

Pass was not on. 3rd tackle. Bad game management on that play.

Ive always been keen to see how he goes this year next to an experienced helper and with a better team, something he has never had and most other halfbacks do.

It caught me by surprise but the moment he kicked the field goal sealed it for me that he has started to think about the game as a whole. Dont know who had the idea, but Benji was off and someone must have come up with it. And he hit it sweetly.

Im giving him the credit for it. He's 23, a long way from an old halfback and a few years away yet from having good experience. Most of the good ones are mid to late 20s before they really go bang. I think he is on track.

Brooks was great again last night. Sure he's had a couple of ordinary games but it has been when the rest were awful as well - thus making it difficult to play well as a half. Any follower of the game knows if the forwards aren't going forward and winning the ruck it becomes tough for the halves. I also think that the many changes at 9 and 6 throughout this season, and the last few years, haven't helped him to know and play his role in the team. He has looked better with Benji, and now Farah as well, sharing some of the management so that he is free to have a run and play what he sees.
Can't fault his effort and desire in any game this season.
I hope that we get Nathan and re-sign Brooks.

Ok so

6\. Brooks
7\. Cleary

Reynolds can get a release to the Super League.
