The biggest change Brooks has made is outstanding. He is engaging the line with the ball ready to pass if they bite he slices them bit when they tackle he’s got a great late short pass. He was doing this all night whilst our shapes were basic they bit every time.

At the start of the year i was saying Maguire is going to throw his support behind Brooks come what may. The pressure Maguire was under coincided with Brooks's poor form. Rumours were around that the board were looking at other options.

How times have changed.

Brooks has been back to his best since coach removed Doueihi from the halves. It was exactly what Brooks needed to take control of the team.

Full credit to his form. I hope he can keep it up and imporve on his talk and on field leadership on the back of the renewed confidence.

My concern however is removing Doueihi a good young 5/8 improved his form. Last night when Moses went down Brooks played even better, took on more responsibility.

We are however playing this game to win a premiership. To do that and to beat top 4 sides you need two quality halves.

Can Luke still play this well with a dominant 5/8 outside of him. This is where i have my doubts and i hope we dont end up back at the start of this cycle where Luke is under pressure because his form drops again as we improve the 5/8 position.

Adding a Munster, Luai, Walker type 5/8 to this team is essential if we want to challenge for the comp. Can he handle that kind of presence on the field?

Im yet to see it and ill remain a critic until i see him play this well with a dominant 5/8 beside him.

Brooks hasn’t changed that much apart from form..

The difference between having Mbye and Doueihi is they are different 5/8 in the way they play... Mbye is a distributor 1st and foremost whilst Doueihi is give me the ball and I’ll do it myself runner which is great as well but often stops the flow of attack.. Doueihi needs to work on when to do that and when to simply distribute the ball like Mbye has been doing

Another interesting change has been Liddle playing 1st receiver in good ball range allowing Brooks to be wider of the ruck and the. Attack to stand deeper..re-uniting with Garner and having a Blore has added a new threat ...Brooks threw 6 short ball passes in the game all were caught and all put either back rower in space.. or drew extra defenders to cover...we are suddenly having options in attack,,

A very good post mate, I thought he also looked better when Seyfarth was on last night providing that link man pushing Brooks wider as well. He has been working on that play faking inside and then playing outside as well which is working a treat at the moment.

In regards to Doueihi, the way I look at is that he plays his best football as an individual at 5/8th, but that comes at the detriment of the players playing outside him.

Always been a fan. Has had his ups and downs but overall I think he has been one of our most consistent players.

I’ll keep saying it, the team has improved around him. It’s not players in this positions or that, it is a team sport and the team has lifted in intensity.

There were a lot of things we did poorly in the last two wins, that we also did in earlier rounds however, we just were not made to pay for them because we defended well and forced errors.

If we played like we did last night against a full strength pamfers we lose by 40. But I’ll take the 2 points and enjoy my weekend. Thank you footy gods!

I 100% agree, our first 4 or 5 attacking sets were horrible, ending with poor kicks, hell Douiehi ran on the last and we handed it over.
A full strength Penrith would have dished us up comfortably last night, but Brooks apart from the first 10 or 15 minutes played pretty well.
The team will need to lift a lot to beat Parra next week, not just Brooks, we can't make so many errors and give away so many penalties and expect to keep Parra to 1 try.
I mean Liddle who everyone was praising threw a pass to no one in our 20, Penrith picked it up and we were under pressure again. He has twice in the last few weeks gone for a run trying to score and thrown the ball away as well, there are stories like this for quite a few players who need to be better for us to really challenge the good teams.
We are getting better, but we are no where near where we need to be, hopefully the upward trajectory continues.

^^^^^This is the alpha and the omega.

The team has played better with Mbye at 6 and so has Brooks but IMO its not to do with Douiehi being "dominant" its to do with Mbye getting better ball to the right side. Opens our attack, increases the threats.

Also think our pack has finally gotten onto their front foot which I think correlates with Liddles return from reggies and his changed and improved play.

I thought Liddle was great last night, very good defensively and made some crucial tackles early on, Mbye has been okay at 6 and has a decent passing game but always seems to be in first gear, lacks passion, and the will to win.

Not sure if anyone has mention this , but , Brooks was in the panthers sheds after the game last night.

What was that all about?

hahaha i didnt look at the image properly before i asked the question.

thanks mate.

Have been loving his form for a month now, looks a confident player and dare I say it, a game manager. Just watched a replay of a try saving cover tackle on a runaway Dylan Edwards that no other half in the Comp would have made. Big test this week to show he can do it when the opponent is the real deal.

no doubting he tries his guts out. sometimes the result doesn't work out but his defence is cracking.
Just quietly I was disappointed he didn't chin two dads behind the play.

I don't think Brooks and Doueihi in the halves was a huge failure.

I think moving Mbye to 5/8 was a temporary solution to get the ball to the centres and wing more often and Madge needed to try something new.

Hopefully Doueihi is getting some coaching on exactly how Madge wants him to play at 5/8 as well as when to run and when to pass.
