Funny, I have no interest whatsoever in reading Luke Brooks articles. I'm not even a hater, I think he's a good footballer, but the story NEVER changes.

I'd rather read a piece than listen to him. Those journos certainly pad and fluff the articles on Luke. I think I suggested 4 or 5 years back that it might be a good idea for the club to assist Luke with his public speaking. The poor bloke is still like a deer in the headlights.

Absolutely, maybe we shall get on board someone like Procrustes, he should be able to take care of different players height!

Yep, it goes along the lines of "this is my year to take control of the team".

This year I think he will control the team,no Benji to overcall him,Liddle give him quick ball,JTJ running at full speed and Brooks knows that Madge can and will bench players not performing...
This year is his year to show all he can play and lead if he has the shackles off...

Yeah I think the reason why this keeps coming up, is this was supposed to happen in 2018 when Moses left, but then we signed Benji who took control.

We're finally at a stage where he shouldn't be getting over called, he's the experienced player. No more excuses.

He wasn’t in 2019 . When it was Farah and Liddle passing him the ball . When it was grant IMO .... it was oOOOoOoO Benji ..... who it’s now come out from a few people , was playing “ I’ve still got it , look at my try assists “ card . Benji , last year was a good stats bad team , half . It was empty calories .

I'm not going to blame Brooks poor year on Benji. I think this year though Brooks should get better service (even though Grant is gone), he will have better options and go forward. Brooks though has to play well. He has to take the right option consistently, defend well and be a threat with the ball.

Earl as you know I have been a critic of Lukes many times, however,I have come to the understanding that playing alongside a club legend that over called him many times had deflated his confidence,if people watched the trial on the weekend you all should have noticed the difference in Lukes game...(not being in Benjis shadow)
I will guarantee you there will be more to come as the season plays along..
He will step up and we will all be proud of how he has changed...

We have so many players who we need to step up and have good years and Brooks is one of them. I can't wait for the season to start.

I'm not sure if you misread or just can't understand what I'm saying.

*Not throwing shade at all. Pointing out there’s a thin line between a great PLAY and a dud one.*

Play, not player. Not throwing shade. Not calling him a dud.

Different widths too but BJ is working on that.

Yep , fair enough sounds like I misunderstood . I just think inside BJ , there’s the worlds best centre waiting to get out. He just needs to get out of his own way . But at 30 hopefully it’s not too late for 2 plus years of truely elite centre play . It would be a real shame if the guy never achieves the heights he should , because he was too lazy , too much of a meathead etc. I think playing with his bro might have woken him up to how self destructive he is to his own career. He had the potential to be the next Mal Meninga . Not sure if that’s going to happen now . Hopefully !!!

Who are you expecting as a backup halfback? Joey Johns?

We had both Benji and Reynolds, probably the most experienced backup halves in the comp.

That’s why brooks never gets dropped completely out of the side not on the bench out of the side because there is no halfback coming through to put pressure on him so it doesn’t matter how he plays

We had that as well as a grand final and world cup winning half as part of the squad.

Outside of the Roosters, I can't think of a team that has a young half coming through with the credentials to push out an incumbent half so I think that's unrealistic.

Then you sir know nothing about football , if you think Josh Reynolds in 2020 was at any point better than Brooks , even with his dismal play.

Well seriously how good do u think brooks was in 2020 Rubbish and he’s been the halfback what for probably 7/8 years he played second fiddle to benji and he played second fiddle to Moses he hasn’t got it in him to lead us round the field

Except the two years where he was player of the year right ? And won dally m halfback of the year. His issue isn’t that he can’t control the team , it’s how much he defers when others try to take over the team .
Your straw man argument is just garbage . I’m sick of reading it . It’s always the same crap . Where you conveniently leave out details which contradict and undermine everything your saying .
By the way , I said Luke was garbage last year . Because for the first 3/4 of the season he was . The moment it was obvious it was the Benji Marshall retirement tour , and not about winning , we saw him return to something resembling the player he is . His issue last year was deferring to a guy , who was all about himself , and honestly I don’t rate Grant anywhere near as high as everyone else . He undermines his halfbacks . It’s the same stuff everyone was saying around the time we got rid of Robbie first time around .
I don’t get baffled with “try assists” , and glory stats . I notice the time he goes for the big play , when the half is screaming for the ball on the other side , because the fullback is caught in the play the ball , and is clearly trying to put a grubber in behind the line . That’s the stuff I notice. Or the time the half , and the backline is set up for a raid , and the ball goes short side to his majesty for a nothing play , that kills all momentum .
In 2021 you don’t win football games by the times you do score, you win them by what you do with the ball 99% of the time you don’t . Of which both Brooks and Marshall didn’t do last year .

Think about it . If we score 4 try’s a game for 20-24 points per game . That’s 4 tackles out of say 40 sets of six . That’s 240 tackles with 4 scoring plays , that’s around 99% of the time you don’t score a try . So if scoring points is that hard , it’s stands to reason , that playing selfishly , and going for low percentage play has a huge effect on the game .
