Madge has to take the blame!

Watching that presser last night I have no confidence in what Maguire has to offer moving forward certainly no positivity portrayed no hard edge !

There’s nothing to be positive about from that game besides Harry Grant who he gave a mention.

If Madge had half the quality players we have not been able to retain over the past few years then - yes he would have to hold blame. Two of his highest paid players are not in the first grade side.

Madge picks the team though. If Reynolds isn't in the side that is Madge's decision. Would probably give Benji/Reynolds combo a go after tonight, Brooks was hopeless.

I think we should start with Benji and Brooks and then bring in Reynolds to intstall much needed guts and spirit. Whom Reynolds replace depends on who is travelling worse, Benji or Brooks. Benji looked tired last night.

I thought all the players looked very fatigued through that game. Maybe the travel ? Jennings played with his usual lack of enthusiasm and our fullback was caught repeatedly out of position as he was last week.

Seriously? I regularly get up at 4.30am to catch a flight to Brisbane to be presenting in front of people at 9am. They can’t fly to Brisbane in a chartered friggen plane in the lap of luxury and then perform? No excuses.

Mbye was fullback last year and was so poor that Madge dropped him to the bench. Only a late injury saved him. He’s not an NRL fullback

He’s not really an NRL centre either, or half. Yet he’s an Origin player. Figure that out.

Mbye is not really an Origin player as such. He was only picked as they had a massive shortage.

It was also his poor read that cost them the series. He was the bloke Pearce caught out of position and burnt with a min to go.

He’s a utility at best and a pretty average player.

I think Maguire has to shake up the halves. How he does it I dont know. I'd give Benji this he does have the good game every 2 to 3 games. How often have we said that about Brooks? He just doesnt rise to the occassion and take control of a game. Once or twice year in 24 games? Not good enough for a NRL grade halfback.

Not much halfback options, but I'd be inclined to shift Benji to half for a few games and try a 5/8 option or two.

And as a captain he’s a very poor leader

The club surely has to take the blame...it must be the attitude of the whole club......we have a new "good' coach good coaching staff ( so we've been led to believe) so it must come down to attitude from the top to the bottom.
They need to get tough mentally that's the only way and nothing less than winning will be good enough. As someone alluded to in a different post Parramatta has done it so why can't we...I was waiting to see if we could win two in a row, as we haven't done that for several years - however we all live in hope, and I was quite distressed after last nights game- as I assumed that nonsense may have changed, but here we go again. Actually I feel very sorry for Michael (Madge) he also looks very distressed when we don't win, and I know how that feels I guess we all do.
Please Wests Tigers team try harder

Maguire re-signed/extended Brooks, Twal, Mikaele. Aloiai, Chee-Kam, Lawrence, Liddel,Marshall, Garner as well as signing Jennings Leilua x2, Doueihi, Walters, Grant, Musgrove..

The only players in the 17 last night pre Madge were Nofoaluma, Mbye, Clark and Seafarth..

When does it actually become his team..

I hear what your saying, but you're disregarding the amount of salary cap that has been wasted on players who aren't in the team.

There's a few quality signings Madge could add if he had the $3 million wasted on JR, Packer and Mbye.

Once he gets Reynolds, Packer & McQueen off taking a large chunk of the payrol.

I really don't think you can point the finger solely at Madge on this. Yes, he selects the team but once they're out on the field, if they deviate away from the game plan, which they pretty much did according to his press conference comments, well what more can he do?

The halves last night were ordinary and I think some tinkering needs to be done here. I'd seriously look at reintroducing Reynolds. He's no worse than Benji or Brooks week in, week out but what he does give is 100% everything and brings energy, and I think along with Grant, that is something we need right now. Grub doesn't necessarily have a great long kicking game, but his short kicking game close to the line is pretty good and he competes on every play. I'd look at dropping Brooks, move Benji to 7 and Grub to 6.

Jennings has to go, he offers no impact and I reckon he lacked ticker last night in not competing for the ball. Better to go all in and have a go than stand back and hope the bounce favors you. Kane Bradley wouldn't do any worse and offers a genuine target out wide to kick to.

The bench rotation also has to change. Rowdy is wasted with 15 minutes of game time and Clark and Seyfarth aren't winning the middle when they are on, for the past two weeks we've done the majority of defending when they are on the field and we need more strike. I'd drop Rowdy and bring in Chee-Kam and drop Seyfarth for Musgrove. Clark can stay as he does defend quite well.

I'm a huge Bradley fan

Would love to see him get a go

Sucks that scolari can't get much game time in the CC this year

They don’t make first grade at many other teams especially for the ridiculous money they’re all on.

Maybe so..but that doesn't have much to do with getting the best from them..the comment was made this is not Maguire's team.... yet 13 of the players on the field last night were either re-signed/extended and signed by him...Nofoaluma and Mbye being 2 others very experience NRL players and Clark and Seyfarth rewarded for work ethic..

I would suggest it is Maguire's team and the reason put forward for poor performances that it's not doesn't fly..

Plus Clark wanted to retire to be part of his family's business this year and the coach asked him to see out his contract. No doubt Maguire is somewhat handicapped by some big money players that he is not getting value for money out of, but the selections are his and Reynolds for example, has often performed when given a run.

Having won last week with players rewarded for their iso efforts, was happy enough with that initial reward and to run out the same team with a change to the prop rotation for yesterday's match. In itself, it may or not have changed the result, though we were owned in the middle well before the rotation after strong openings on the back of possession both weeks, so something has to change.
