Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

There is not one positive about our current form and I'm seriously torn and confused on all of this.
Recruit new coach and players.
Extend, sack or release.
Feels like the club is forever in a quandary, on the road to nowhere.
No coach is good enough. The culture or environment isn't right for the players. The players are consistently unsatisfactory in effort and attitude. We don't have the right leaders. We don't have or can't recruit the right type of players.

Now recent articles about Madge during Souths have surfaced, the whole Seibold white-anting narrative has been entirely replaced by Madge being incompetent at winning, has obsolete methods and poor man management skills.
The same coach we commended during his appointment despite having an inkling of the aforementioned stuff.
I'm seriously over watching players that look clueless at times, and lack spirit and mental toughness.
I'm also seriously over watching the most unimaginative gameplans attempted to be executed, lacking vision, smarts and skill.
We've got Mbye and Packer left from Ivan and now also a number of recruits handpicked by Madge, does this mean we'll be faced with unloading further players. To what extent does it affect the current playing group? There may be problems between coach and players but will it further impact their performance in any way?
There's a number of questions that already have an historical answer in place.
It's been done before and whether its the correct decision or not it shows an unhealthy pattern at the club. The only constant is the club's backing from F. CCT a E D
*
* UV to for h BB fans, who continue to support and stick up for them.
So where's the professionalism from the club?
We've been climbing the impossible Penrose staircase since Sheens left with no end in sight. As a fan I'm sick of having to endure this over and over again.

Very well said @lauren. You really know how to put your thoughts and words together 👍

I started off supporting coach Maguire but am now on the fence.

The issue as I see it is his lack of ability to inspire the squad to play their best week in and week out. It's too inconsistent what we are seeing.

I've come around to his personality not being suited to the modern day player. He is too by the book. Too straight laced.

I have no doubt he is feeding them all the right information and is is a good coach it's just that I don't think the younger players respond to what he has to offer. It's not a Wests Tigers thing it's a league wide thing with the younger players.

He is looking more and more like a coaching director than a dressing room coach.

At this rate someone like Robbie Farah may be better to take over the coaching as we move Maguire to a head of coaching role.

This squad, or the players we had before he got here should be playing better. Sadly they are not and that falls on the head coach.

Pretty much agree with you. Maguire has the right attitude and character to build the foundation of the club and could work as a coaching director.

We can give all the reasons we like and I really do believe age of our players plays a significant factor in our dreadful results, but they are simply not good enough defensively and that has to fall on the coach.

To his and the club's credit, we have used our reserve teams effectively this season and Maguire has managed to get improvement out of sending players down there. He has however taken far too long to figure out how to get Brooks and Mbye going.

Hi friends. I know some of you are not fans of Madge. I know even more of you are not fans of Justin Pascoe. Now imagine if the two did a fusion and became one person. I drew some hair on Madge to make him more resemble Justin Pascoe. I call this masterpiece - **Madgestin Pascuire**.

Imagine how much money we could save by having our coach also as the CEO. 2 for 1.

I appreciate a good few of your gifs or whatever they are called, though this one gave me anger. Not solely at you for posting it, but that people actually feel this way and go to the trouble of creating such utter crap.

And that was one of the reasons I put up for sacking Madge, accountability, but not for every player, it is just a joke.
By picking the same blokes making the same mistakes every week, you just condone the effort or performance, there is no incentive for them to have a crack every week, they will never be a top 8 side with that attitude, and that is on the coach

Conversely, and also being on the coach for mine, is the form and playing style of the bloke that has attracted a bandwagon of unnecessary scorn.

pretty good. You just need to elongate the forehead and move the eyes to the side of the head.

Wayne Bennett once said "upgrade your transfers" i.e. if you are going to loose a player, ensure there is a better player coming to take their place. That way you cannot go backwards (i.e. Latrell Mitchell for Adam Doueili)

Madge needs help. Yet I only see two 'maybe better' candidates.

Laurie Daley - former SOO coach and broke the Blues drought.

Shane Flanagan - Still looking for a NRL home. Took the sharks to a grand final (ok with good buying from the sharks, Gallen + Lewis). Also was known for coaching mainly ex wests tigers players.

Other then these two, I don't believe there is a coach on the bench that would upgrade Madge.
The more important question:
Why did Ivan Cleary fail to make the 8 with us, yet Penrith are Undefeated this season?
We have a training problem. We need to address this, yes the head coach should identify and rectify this. But we need to acknowledge that it is there and get a plan to fix this.

I feel like Madge has been intentionally coaching the team wrong for the last two and a half years to teach the players what not to do in certain situations. Now that the players have learned of all those what-not-to-dos, they are putting it all together.

Maybe a little, though I more so see key players allowed to now play more of their natural games, with their individual contributions and changes to combinations now being molded into a team, rather than being jammed into playing roles that hindered.

I congratulate Maguire on finally making changes that for mine were long overdue and well, over a year for some.

Brooks is nailing kicks etcetera and sure he is playing better, but we have always looked better the more he controlled the kicking and he isn't turning back inside or not being able to get his nose through the line now because he belatedly has a hole runner in Garner (and Blore when there tonight) that provide better options and Laurie is prospering off that as well.

A lot has to do with our forwards getting a better hold, but the rest is not simply coincidence.

Nah, its more like madge has kinda been learning on the fly with the tigers as well, which is fine game is so different from a few years ago.

I liked that in his half time address he apparently told the boys to go after the game. That’s 2021 rugba leeg. You have to play positive footy and defending a small lead is not the way to go.

I take that as a sign of growth in the coach and him adapting to the modern game.

Last nights game against Panthers should have highlighted the major problem Madge has been dealing with.
Clearly Cleary was not confident going into this game against a bottom 8 side? Why? Was it because his team lacked the harmonic motion that only experience can provide? The experience of playing many games together.
Madge has had to turnover the roster and introduce players with limited NRL experience, some with none, due mainly because he inherited 30% of his cap sitting in the stands and leaving at half time.
I put it to you, Madge is a winner, winners always find a way, because they are focussed more on solutions. One of the smartest things Madge has done is to lock down Brooks and build a team for him and this against the odds, against the better judgment of half the WT fan base. 😁
Don’t worry, I’m not getting carried away by last nights win, but it is good to look in the mirror sometimes, just as the players did last night. Looking across the field, they would have seen themselves in Panthers jerseys.

Our defensive and attacking structures have clearly improved over the last month and a half. With a new spine and a lot of new young players things were always going to take time - still unsure if we will make the 8 but if we can keep playing like this we can go close.

Hard couple games coming up though, hopefully we can topple the eels as they're on a poor run lately because our run home is excellent. Dogs twice and a few other low ranked teams

I reckon they’ll fancy themselves against the Eels. Storm is the hump game, if they can get through that game with some credibility then freshen up with a bye for a run to the finals. Gosh? I think they’re going to sneak in.😁

Agreed, we normally give it a good crack against eels and they've looked pretty flat lately. Even Souths we've shown we can beat! Big couple games coming up.

I think they’re going to sneak in.?

Comments like this should never, ever be written 🙂 🙂

Finally we are beginning to see a team that looks like they want to play together. It's taken a long time to remove the white ants and wet rot but it lookslike we're starting to get somewhere. Just hope they keep it up.

Madge is really starting to motivate this team, get them firing.
It's noticeable the self confidence the whole **TEAM** has.
Our players have finally got the **MADGE** message.
