Madge is a good coach to quality players or side. But to average players or average side it has shown he struggles.
Also players like BJ, JTJ, Brooks, Tamou,Luc, Noffa, Talau to name a few haven't delievered this year.
And im a Brooks fan.

What makes you think he's a good coach?

It can't be cos of the south's grand final win...
That was gift wrapped by the NRL.

Not having a dig... just have my doubts with his ability.

Also the South’s GF2014 with Inglis and Burgess and a team of stars didn’t win becuse of Madges strategic genius…. That team could have coached itself and beat a team that included future tigers greats Mbye and Reynolds

Madge won a premiership in 2014. The game evolves a crazy amount just year to year. To put credence into a coach that won a comp 7 years ago is absolutely insane.

That's a silly comment I think. Madge surely would not be using the exact same approach/tactics as 2014, with a different club, different rules, different players.

2014 shows that Madge knows / has what it takes to get a team to win a premiership.

The only argument you could possibly make is that Madge has a particular strength as a coach which is not translating to the current competition / roster.

That's baloney, complete Baloney. Souths made the finals once in the 21 seasons prior to Madge. He got them to 3rd his first season, 4 consecutive finals appearances, premiership after 3 seasons. His predecessor John Lang took Souths to 9th and 10th.

Wayne Bennett is coasting at Rabbits right now with players identified/signed and/or debuted by Madge - Cook, Murray, Cody Walker, Johnson etc.

It is a reasonable argument that Madge does not have what it takes to ever coach the Tigers to the finals, but you can't take his run at Souths off him. You can't fluke 4 consecutive finals and a comp, and no team coaches itself. In fact the opposite - teams with even small disruptions can crash badly.

I’ve been trying to avoid this thread so not sure if it has already been pointed out just how unhappy the Tigers players look after scoring.

The hug each other high-five, genuine joy to score and be leading is absent. Go watch any reply over the last 6 weeks or so.

A group of people that don’t even enjoy scoring suggests something is MASSIVELY wrong with team identity, relationships and overall happiness.

I don’t remember a more unhappy Tigers squad.

Either, we have some relational splits in the playing group or the playing group is split from the coaching group.

Some of the players that have been there for a while think their better than the rest....unfortunately their form shows they are not...Noffa ,Brooks come to mind,,,,BENJI syndrome I would say...

Agree, Nofa just continues to run sideways, it's ridiculous. Surely it can't continue in FG?

I also thought last game against Warriors, the both halves let us down badly, poor and panicked decisions by them, led to our doom. They have been arguably our best all season, but Madge must have been gutted after both there performances.

TBH, I am shattered and disillusioned at the teams inept efforts in the important games this year, to blame the club and coaching staff for it, just doesn't feel right.

Interesting point and very true. Look at Penrith when they score. The whole team sprints in and everyone jumps on eachother in celebration. our guys barely crack a smile

Jettison the coach and I believe you will see a big improvement.

I dont think so.

Madge is struggling with the roster big time. Has any team in the competition used this many players in the one position at Centre this season. We have had multiple combinations in the centres all this season. Majority of them are not up to first grade standard or just rookies that should be in NSW cup learning their trade.Combinations with edge defenders and wingers are very poor as we haven’t built any solid foundations for defence.Nobody seems to know what to do in defence or what lines to run or positional play in attack. We keep on chopping and changing because of lack of depth or injury.
Mbye
Doueihi
AJ
BJ
Talau
Pauga
Roberts
MCK

I don’t think many of these players would get a run at a club in the top 8.

AD and LL couldn't work out a simple right to left side and almost fell over each other trying to miss the ball carrier. Madge didn't coach that. He doesn't tell LL that if he runs hard with the football he doesn't have to tackle his opposite when they have the ball. Brooks and AD can't play together. It's moments in games that are killing us.
Maybe Hastings is the type we need to organise a proper attack. Maybe Blore and Tualagi, when they are fit and ready, can defend an edge. Smith Shields appears to be very good defensively, he could make a massive difference. When Simpkin is another year older and wiser maybe we'll have a very good two hooker rotation.
I know it's been a very frustrating season but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to see Madge with the following ( entireley possible ) team, then I'll judge him:
Laurie
Gildart
HSS
AD
Senior
Hastings
Brooks,
Joffa
Blore
Tuilagi
Stef
Liddle
Tamou

Musgrove
Twal
Luki
Simpkin
Simpkins
LL
Garner
AJ
TT
Seyfarth

If I read another comment about Souths in 2014, I will lose my mind. What does that have to do with the disgusting displays we've seen from these teams coached by Maguire? I don't think I've seen us play this bad in any of the past 10 years. This year we have not beaten any team that we weren't expected to, and have dropped many games we were expected to win. We don't do any plays in attack. All we do is simple backline passing and it only works against shit teams. You can mention his premiership win in 2014 all you want, but he is coaching nowhere near premiership-level. Even Cleary had us beating Storm x2, and Roosters in the space of 5 weeks in 2018. They were the grand finalists that year. What has he brought to the team with regards to COACHING. Not recruitment, not junior pathways, but COACHING? Has our defence ever looked worse? Has our attack ever looked more predictable? Remember last year when Benji carried us in attack? Now he is gone, and we have NOTHING. What is he bringing to this team in terms of COACHING? If he is there to recruit, put him in that role and get a guy that can rally this team together.

I can't remember another year with so many dismal displays directly after half-time, or on very important memorial days. I can't help but look at the coach, in addition to the players.

And this is his third year. ugh

People harp on about 2014 because it’s the last time Madge had any sort of success as a coach. It’s been all downhill from there.

Starts from the top. Get Sheens in and he makes the call on recruitment people and coach. If he says Madge is the man then that’s how you run a club. If he feels people won’t sign because of Madge and Madge can’t get the players better then he gets sacked. Simple. We have lacked anyone with rugby league nous and experience of Sheens caliber forever.
