Madge is done.

Right now I would take Flanagan as coach only because when he coached Cronulla he had them defend very well. I don’t care about peptides, that’s history. I want a coach that can get the team to defend.

Some will say that he had a team of old heads, players that had loads of experience. Well he put them there over a number of years, he built that team. No-one can argue that they weren’t a good defensive unit.

I want a coach who can get a team to defend well. That’s all, is that too hard?

From your keyboard , but every word could have been from my own… Flanagan coaches strong, committed football teams that can get down and dirty and win however it needs to be done… players perform for him, he knows how to build a “team” out of players that compliment each other and his teams play what’s in front of them..the Cronulla grand final team took down Melbourne in their prime, even set a record for consecutive wins and they were good to watch. Tough and entertaining, but most importantly they used to fight to win, they were competitors, and in my estimation they were representative of the coaches own personality… Flanagan is smart and his a hard head, we need that at this club, he bought an identity to that Cronulla club and we need that desperately at the West’s tigers… he would be perfect, the right man at the exact right time….. cmon Justin “guns” Pascoe, bring Shane to Tiger Town!

He hasn't achieved anything without cheating.

Which of the teams that have won comps recently haven’t cheated. The broncos team (paying Lockyer $150k), the storm ( 2 books for pay), the roosters (unlimited salary cap). Playing by the rules doesn’t get you very far in the NRL.

If you can't win fairly, cheat. Your call. NRL is not a kids game but I sure hope you aren't a parent .

Well if Greg said that, I withdraw my comment haha.

Point is the successful clubs are win at all costs, openly.

So glad my comment about a sports game led you to throw that very offensive comment. I think it’s more a reflection of you as a person. I would say more but I will restrain myself. In proffesional sport where money is involved there is no fairness involved. It’s why the teams that push the boundaries and the rules keep winning. In terms of sport I would rather my team do all they can to win then to be the nice guy losers the tigers are. Again a reflection of you as a person to draw that long bow and question my character as a person.

My greatest concern with Madge is, there is absolutely zero signs of improvement.
You would think by August, considering they came together as a group first week in November last year, that nine months later there would be real signs of cohesion and teamwork. Sadly they are a shambles both in attack and defence.

Iam not doubting there is effort by both the players and the coaching staff, but they are playing like nobody knows what the calls are or what their role is in defence.

Look At Melbourne, every player has a role and they do it very well. It’s all about teamwork and trust. Our mob have no idea what the bloke inside or outside them is going to do, both in attack and defence.

I would have thought the head coach who is being paid more than most of us would earn in a decade or more would be the person responsible for at least delivering some improvement.

This would be the number one factor for me in letting him go. This is his 3rd year, largely with his own roster and as you said, neither the defence or attack has drastically improved.

Phil Gould's massive question mark over South Sydney Rabbitohs' salary cap situation

Former MP charged with blackmailing SA Labor leader blocked from…
No decision on Melbourne's lockdown extension yet

Phil Gould has publicly questioned the South Sydney Rabbitohs and their salary cap, as the club are set to let three big-name players walk out the door at the end of 2021.

Adam Reynolds has signed a long-term deal with the Brisbane Broncos after only being offered a one-year extension to stay at Redfern, while Origin stars Dane Gagai and Jaydn Su'A are also departing.

On top of those three players, Wayne Bennett is heading off at season's end and it looks as though there will be a huge changing of the guard at South Sydney.

The debate around their recruitment and retention heated up again over the weekend, with Reynolds breaking the all-time pointscoring record for the club against Parramatta.

Speaking on 100% Footy, Gould questioned the structure of the Rabbitohs' salary cap and where all the money is going with Reynolds, Su'A and Gagai moving on.

“The other part of it is, and knowing the system that I do – what does it say about the South Sydney salary cap situation? They’re not just losing Adam Reynolds, they are losing Dane Gagai and Jaydn Su’A," he said.

"Three pretty handy players that would be on good money themselves. That’s freeing up a lot of money in the salary cap, and we haven’t seen them that active in the player market.

"Who’s getting all the money, and why is it they have had to get rid of their halfback who is a winner? You buy people who can provide wins, and Adam Reynolds provides wins. It’s as simple as that.

"It was extraordinary, but it might say more about their salary cap situation and perhaps what other players in the club are earning.

"I don’t know who they are targeting to soak up what may or may not be available."

Damien Cook and Latrell Mitchell are both signed until the end of 2023 on big-money deals, while five-eighth Cody Walker will come off contract at the end of 2022 and will likely seek an upgrade due to his red-hot form.

Souths have signed Broncos playmaker Anthony Milford on a one-year deal, but outside of that haven't picked anyone up to replace the three big names who are leaving.

Former Origin and premiership-winning captain Paul Gallen expressed his disbelief at the situation and said it could come back to bite the Rabbitohs in the coming years.

“Firstly, congratulations to Adam Reynolds and what he has achieved. That club has been around since day one – to achieve that is an outstanding achievement and he deserves all the congratulations that he gets," he said.

"I still can’t believe they let him go, I don’t know how they let him go for the sake of the one more year he wanted. The figure that he was asking I didn’t think was astronomical for a good first grade halfback and a bloke that has played rep football.

"The decision has been made now and he’s going to the Brisbane Broncos, but I’m still in disbelief – especially seeing what they’ve got. Benji Marshall, we don’t know if he’s going to play on or not, Milford going there hasn’t had a good couple of years.

"Rumours are there are a couple of young guys coming through, but I haven’t seen them coming through at all. To expect a young guy to come in and take over that side next year, I think it is a big ask.

"I think it’s a bad look for the entire club. You’ve got a bloke who has grown up in housing commission around the corner from the stadium, devoted his whole career and life to the club.

"What does it say to the next young kid who is coming along? I get my nose out of joint for that part of it."

Separate issues. Maguire's sacking is not dependent upon a replacement.

Get a caretaker and go through a selection process, hopefully a bit more robust than with Maguire. PS he can take his rusted ons with him.

Wow, you guys think its hard to attract players now.....lets sack the coach and put an ad on seek......

We need to claw and build our way out of this.

I'd back sacking Madge for a Bellamy/Robinson/Cleary type but not an untested coach. Our reputation wont survive it and we will be back at the start.

No we need a better plan than that, what if we go through the selection process and there is no one better?

Get a caretaker in now. The season is lost. Use the time left to rebuild confidence in the playing group.

Go through the recruitment process. Be far more rigorous than we were with Maguire.
