Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

Look I agree that Madge must take a fair share of responsibility for what happened this year. I expected more as I’m sure he did also.
We started the season following that preseason Manly win and faced a tough draw.
I think that things really started to go bad after that close loss to Souths. Our heads were down after that and results showed that players and Madge were well and truly down after that.
Sliding doors and if we jag couple of wins that we should have got in the bag and we find that we would have something to play for in our last round game against the bulldogs.
I’m not making excuses for anyone ….. but things are finely balanced for teams like ours.
We have a young, inexperienced team that just got a season under their belts.
We played virtually whole season without any positive input from Packer, Musgrove, Joey L. Roberts, AJ and Walters. Not saying that they would have made lots of difference but that’s a large chunk of our roster.
So yes a tough season but stay positive guys all is not lost.

I know everyone hates him, but does Brooks look like the trouble making type? Noffa I could see. He has attitude and a bit of ego, but Brooks? The guy has looked scared of his shadow ever since his debut. He’s never grown a voice. What you see on the field, the timid, emotionless bore is exactly who he is off field. He’s not going to be apart of any kind of mutiny. It’s not in his personality.

Brooks would be weak as water he’d whinge behind peoples backs, and when it came to the crunch it would be deny,deny,deny. Well that’s what I’d imagine him being like 😂

In the doco, wasn't Madge upset that Brooks kept cross field kicking to Oates' wing and was getting frustrated? Doesnt this indicate that Brooks does have freedom to play however he wants? Yet now the team cannot play Madges style.....the club seems to lose the people it should keep and keep the players it should lose

I would agree we get rid of more of the ones we should keep rather than 'all'. Viceversa for the ones to punt.

if what @TYGA says is true about the playing group and what we've heard from the press is correct in regards to the leaders of the squad being interviewed, its going to be an interesting decision for Hartigan and Pascoe to make. Doueihi and Tamou in Madge's corner, Brooks and Nofo in the other.

I think we've gone backwards in 3 years, but if the majority of the playing group is in favour of him staying and a bunch of underachievers are against him, I think it makes a decent case for Madge to stay.

So Tamou is a high achiever??? Or Luciano paper thin defender?? Please,,,

He employed those two halfwit assistant coaches snoopy Colins, please.
He is the one who has no idea hiw to use his bench!
He is the one who has no idea about his own players strengths eg, liddle and Luciano are not 80 minute players!
He is a defensive based coach yet our defence is getting worse every year!
He has no ability to attract high end talent to the club!
He has taken us from 9th to 11th to 13th, what’s next? The spoon!
He cannot motivate the team look at there faces before and after games, they are burnt out!
Yep, keep him, great coach!

I never said anything about Tamou being a high achiever, simply that he sounds as if he's on Madge's side of the ledger. if you look at the 4 mentioned, I don't think you could say any of them have played to their ceilings this year.

Key point is asking these players about winning like they have any bloody clue. Our group of “senior” players, would have to be the sorriest group of them in the Comp.

I'm not making excuses but Brooks and Nofa are juniors (unlike Matterson and Aloia), who came into grade very hyped and have never known success. Maybe they are as frustrated with the club as I am after the last 10 years. Coaches change but nothing changes. But....they have also chosen to stay big fish in a small pond, and probably have an outsized idea of their quality. They are certainly being paid more than they would elsewhere and with a limited salary cap money is status for players. Brooks has never played well under Madge but Nofo has...
