Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

I think Madge has what to answer for.

But other than 1-3 players, this team is full of people who are just regular guys, not first grade footballers, and the rest are borderline.

John Morris isn't the answer.

I would like my footy team to look as prepared and willing as the Sharks ! But hey he probable is not the answer .

If he was the answer, then the sharks would be looking to keep him at all cost. Morris hasn't done anything to convince me that he can turn this place around.

Have you actually watch how the Sharks play and turn up for games ... been unlucky with injuries during games , but he certainly puts a good team on the paddock each week and there not world beaters .

Sack Madge and get who? I honestly don’t think even Bellamy or Bennett could improve this mob. Every coach we’ve had since Sheens left has struggled to get anything out of this team. The roster changes but the results never do.

We could get Morris cheap as he will be looking for a club

I would give Madge to mid season if nothing improves get rid of him ... Sign Morris! lets face facts one day a coach will, work out .

last time i looked, theres 13 against 13, thats even to start a game, it then depends on the coaches defence structures and attack structures to make a difference for your team, i know having some good cattle makes a difference, but alot of the good cattle have been taught properly by there coach to make them better players, you look at holbrook and hook they came into teams who were going bad and they have turned them around, to be agood coach you have to be a good listener and put good people around you to have different opinions and to be open to your players and be able to change when things are going wrong, you cant have things set in concrete so you cant change things

Before the season started thought give him 18mths to mould things because it will take time.

In saying that we are not improving despite him recruiting a bunch of players in the top 17.

Infact our attacking game plan looks destroyed, we have zero urgency and defence has gone backwards.

On all aspects of the game we are not actually playing better. He can talk all he wants its clear the players aren’t responding to him and we have major major issues.

Looks like the next 3-5yrs are going to be dire at this rate, no one will want to join the rabble in our current state.

The "that is how the game rolled" quote has really lost me re Tamou was hooked / not used.

Tamou got 28 mins...19 tackles at 100%.

61 meters...good for 28 mins.

Your leader, captain, best defender...not used....he was brought here for these exact moments.

The "that was how the game rolled" quote is unacceptable.

Cows "rolled" 100 meters upfield way too easily when they had it. Tamou had to be back on.

pretty sure he was looking for more go forward impact as we were about 1000 points behind.

In all honestly can anyone tell me that this team Is not getting worse the longer Madge is the coach ..it just appears to be going down hill !

Well, we also had to basically concede zero.

Only way we win was conceded zero sec half.

There was a spot with 15-18 mins to go for Tamou to lead them 'and' provide the D. After the no try, we could have hammered them on their line...instead they went 100 and scored.

As you know, I have been a Madge man...but, no, no one has improved.

Our best three players are Laurie, AD and Stefano...who all came in from good systems.

Everyone we already had who needed coaching has not improved.

I hate Cleary...in fact, I despise him...so, this is painful...but multiple players improved under him. Madge just has not added any structures to the team. Five hit ups and a kick? That is our whole offense.

That was painful to even write.

Madge is way off the pace, too emotional and maybe a bit neurotic and it’s obviously affecting the players. They are playing hesitantly with no confidence and little motivation. The better performers like Laurie,Stefano,Douehi and Jaffa have arrived recently and yet to be ruined. It’s that bad it seems!

It's been that way forever mate - Did you watch the Cows game in 2014... That was 7 years ago!!
I'll never forget Moses kicking for touch when we were 4 points behind with about 8 minutes to go - And we hadn't scored all night.

We have too many players that are happy to have a job - Absolutely no hunger and zero will to win by all of them. We don't hurt ion attack (on the fence with Musgrove) We don't hurt in defence - We're ball watchers... Ball hits the deck and we wait for the ref to give it back to us.

Zero desire...

If you coached this team how would you feel after today's effort?

Matthew Elliott has done wonders for St George defence.
We need a new defensive coach ASAP.

Stains have always been (bar a few seasons ) been a good defensive unit imo

It's an easy solution the 'sack coach' argument. Trouble is we've been losing these games for 20 years. It's not the coach, the coaches are the victim of our club. I like that he's angry after losses, I like that he's trying changes. We don't have much to work with and he's trying new things. Obviously defense is the most disappointing aspect of our play, our players just don't look strong enough to make dominant tackles and they aren't putting any pressure on teams. I think this is a problem but defending well also requires talent. We had Ivan Cleary, who is in charge of the best team at the moment, and he did nothing with our team and his big buys were Josh Reynolds, Moses Mbye, Russell Packer and Ben Matuliano. Then he left us. Before that Jason Taylor, before that Potter (people wanted him sacked before he even started) and before that everyone wanted Sheens gone. Judge maguire after next year. He's making the right moves but we've still got 1.5 million of our salary cap on Mbye and Packer. There is no one better out there.

Leadership, except for a brave effort from Doehi, is virtually non existent in the team. Tamou as captain appears to have failed dismally. There also does not seem to be much talking and encouragement between our players.

Madge needs to work hard on real team work and encourage players to lead and play with heart (before the first half is completed).

Sack the board 1st

Can’t, we don’t have a say in the make up of the board.

Thus we don't have members we have season ticket holders... And we aren't a club we're a franchise of the NRL here solely
to pump up their coffers

Of course he is not happy but he is the one who has not got results for what ever reason and I am sure that he is looking for answers,
