the souths game is the one that will bite us, we had that game won until the dying seconds
if we had won that then 2 out of last 3 would be enough to make 8

I have to say mate, that Souths game was a ripper and we all thought the improvement in the team was going to pave the way for much better performances as we went along in the season.....gee most of us were wrong, however,I think the memorial games were the ones that most impacted our journey to finals...I was actually thinking to myself "what a disgraceful football team I support and love wholeheartedly"...those 2 games were to show the heart and soul of this club and to lose them in the manner in which the boys played said to me that we DONT DESERVE to play finals footy....

exactly, it would be nice to make it this year but clearly top 6 and the rest
we could finish 12th yet still be able.to beat or have beaten Newcastle and Canberra and Gold Coast etc at the end of the day we would be making up the numbers but hope we can still get there.
watching that souths game I was sure Burgess had dropped that ball and the good old 2 point field goal ... damn

I think getting there (top 8 ) would be important going forward, for future signings ect?

That is a great interview. Madge clearly explains the recruitment strategy as well as Sheens role. I remain a fan.

I thought he was really honest in all the things they asked him,I still think he is the coach to get us success in the future, and that could be as early as next year if everything goes well...

Listening to what madge had to say was to me exactly what i want to hear from a coach. He knows we dont have the best roster going around but is determined to get winners at the club even if it means building from kids with the right attitude. To me he is doing this. There is no such thing as a "quick fix" that will always fail (dogs will find out again after trying and failing again this year).I do believe that he is working for the long term success and viability of OUR club.
We are lucky to have him as we need people who think long term not just next year and turmoil for the next 4-5 years.Storm Rorters and Pamfers do this, its about time we did and Madge is doing it
Apologies for the rant

Interestingly, Joel touched on, that our team doesn’t have enough players who have a strong enough, “dog on a bone type desire” to win, while admitting he himself was happy just to have made it to 1st grade.
During the leadership dinner at Le Montage , there of course was a lot of discussion about leadership but I don’t recall anyone raising the issue of what makes a good leader, perhaps not the time and place for such a discussion, but I hope Madge is driving that? My thoughts are.. it is very hard to buy in leadership as opposed to growing it. I wonder if the young players have the courage to have goals beyond getting off the bench?

Agree, more evidence that the club is heading in the right direction. I can only see a bright future for WT if we stay on this course.

I watched the Storm Titans game last night and it was a good game of footy...finals type of game...
the standout for me was watching Cam Munster take hold of the team, talk, direct and get involved right throughout the game....thats LEADERSHIP right there ...and I hope one of our young guns will be able to do the same as they develop under Madge..

At this point in time, I’m backing Ads over Hastings, but hoping he proves me wrong. It’s difficult to expect the type of leadership we need from an import. Doueihi is not really an import. Imo, we need ambitious players who love the club. What makes a strong leader is having an unshakable confidence in his ability to achieve his apex goals, someone who , not only knows the cost, but is prepared to pay the price to reach them. I notice in the podcast with Joel and Fletch, Madge is now referring to his players as men..hear we go..

Doueihi is one of our best signings ever. I also view him as a junior. I also think he has a lot of improvement in his game.

I agree with your post Earl and I do like AD heaps...he still has some learning to do but is a very talented player in our team...

I just want to say and this is my opinion only...Hastings was a young player in the NRL with a massive immature ego because he wanted to succeed...he can and I reckon will stand up to NRL level of intensity ...he has learnt and matured in his time in ESL...

I watched Hastings the other day and I thought he was impressive. He has a great pass to either side and he gets involved.

**MAGUIRE REVEALS THE TYPE OF PLAYER TIGERS WILL TARGET THIS OFF-SEASON**
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/08/19/maguire-reveals-the-type-of-player-tigers-will-target-this-off-season/

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has revealed the position he wants to strengthen heading into the 2022 season.

With the Tigers currently sitting 13th and their finals hopes hanging by a thread, Maguire wants to strengthen the front row of his forward pack to help elevate his side to the next level.

He told SEN 1170’s Drive with Joel and Fletch the type of player his club would like to target.

“I’d like another big front-rower,” Maguire said.

“That’s always something you’re looking for, a strong guy at the front.

“One thing I am looking for is the player that can take themselves from an NRL player, to the Origin arena through to an International.

“The reason I say that is because you need those players in finals series and Grand Finals.

“The more you spend playing at that level, the more comfortable you are.

“There’s a reason they’re the best players in the competition and they’re the ones that win you the comp.

“It’s finding those types of players now in and amongst the group now, is it a Daine Laurie or a Shawn Blore? We’ve got a lot of good young players coming through.”

Maguire’s comments give credence to recent links between the Tigers and Canterbury front-rower Luke Thompson, who has International experience for England.

He also commented on the fact that the club would like to eventually add a strike weapon in the backline, when the right one becomes available.

“When the times right, we’d like to find a strike weapon that may become available,” he added.

“But one thing at th moment, there’s not many around, so you’ve got to be disciplined to hold on until the right one comes around.”

The Tigers face the Sharks on Saturday afternoon where they’ll look to win to keep their finals hopes alive.

Maybe he’ll be out there as the lock. Maybe not in the first few rounds but I’d say he’ll transition to an 80 min one by the end of the season.

Don’t think Thompson fits that description? Perhaps he has been thinking something like the 2 Broncos giants recently signed by chooks?

We have Doueihi who will be that bloke for us, the issue is Madge can't attract the good players to compliment our young blokes

I don't believe we will make the 8 but fingers crossed anyway.

For me Madge is going nowhere as he is well an truly entrenched in this clubs development from the ground up. The club clearly have a path in mind and they are not moving off it unless something worth while pops up. Lets be totally honest here the roster we currently have is a bottom 4 roster and anything above this is a bonus. Madge had done a excellent job with what we have and has given pretty much all players the chance to prove themselves to be a part of the future. In this time he has given valuable game time experience to all the juniors we have and will assist in there development moving forward E.g. Laurie, Stefo, Blore, Simpkin, Simplins, etc...
We have now got the dead wood off the books for 2022 onwards and have the money to target the right players to lift us to the next level while we grown the rest. I for one have been impatient with recruitment but deep down I can see what they are doing and its a long term build unlike what the dogs are doing now.
I feel the media and fans are accepting Madge now as the long tern coach and hope he is around to get the rewards for all his efforts. Just need to start extending a few of the top line players early before others poach like Stefo, Laurie, Blore etc..

You seem to think Madge cant attract the good players....maybe the club and Madge only want to start building from within before spending big on big name players...Madge can and will attract big name players but the club has already said they will wait and see what comes up....you cant despise a bloke for trying to do the right thing first and foremost....thats the trouble with fans and supporters who want wins yesterday...they dont understand that the club will be here for many years to come, not just fall by the wayside because the fans dont see it the way paid professionals do....

If his strategy is to build from within why did we offer Latrell, TPJ and JAC?
