Lots of positive vibes at the moment for Madge on the back of two wins against very average opposition and some fluff in the media.
Be interesting what the vibes are like in two weeks after the Sharks and Penrith games.

You can’t sugar coat it, this year has been terrible. A few wins against under manned opposition, or spoon candidates.

The vision of the rebuild around top not juniors is flawed if you don’t have the quality to show them the way. Also every team in the comp are also buying up top notch juniors. Every junior rep side gets sliced up around the clubs.

We are not going anywhere till we can get some real quality into the team, and I have my doubts our coach can attract that quality.

Happy to be proven wrong

Well said. Prepare to be downvoted by some complete cowards.

Who would you replace him with? No point getting rid of him if there is no one to take over.

It is sad the best argument that can be mustered for retaining Maguire is the fear of who is replacement may be, not that his performance warrants retention.

I watched the Storm Titans game last night and it was a good game of footy...finals type of game...
the standout for me was watching Cam Munster take hold of the team, talk, direct and get involved right throughout the game....thats LEADERSHIP right there ...and I hope one of our young guns will be able to do the same as they develop under Madge..

We have Doueihi who will be that bloke for us, the issue is Madge can't attract the good players to compliment our young blokes

You seem to think Madge cant attract the good players....maybe the club and Madge only want to start building from within before spending big on big name players...Madge can and will attract big name players but the club has already said they will wait and see what comes up....you cant despise a bloke for trying to do the right thing first and foremost....thats the trouble with fans and supporters who want wins yesterday...they dont understand that the club will be here for many years to come, not just fall by the wayside because the fans dont see it the way paid professionals do....

If his strategy is to build from within why did we offer Latrell, TPJ and JAC?

I think he’s talking as a general proposition, that the underlying concept is to create a base from players who have developed through the club. That’s not to the exclusion of signing the right top liners when the circumstances are right and there were good reasons for offering contracts to at least two of them. Latrell because we’ll he’s Latrell and JAC because of the history with the club and our need for decent wingers especially at the time.

Ciraldo, Gardiner, Morris, Bennett to name a few.

Ciraldo maybe. Bennet no thanks. The others either.

Supercoach, I know where you are coming from. I too have my doubts about Madge, but I was heartened somewhat after watching the last Tiger Tales episode. I really think the next three weeks will be telling. If the Sharks beat us and we get smashed by the Panthers, then we need to look for another coach. If we beat the Sharks, beat the Panthers, or even compete well, and beat the Bulldogs, then we are travelling in the right direction and I will support him.

What did you find heartening on the episode out of interest?

I saw he had some positive interactions with his players and showed more calm. He seemed to have more to say about specific tactics for specific situations. The episodes before all I can remember is a lot of swearing, yelling and statements such as 'it's like life and death' , which I thought were over the top. I'm not yet convinced, but I will back him if we finish this season really strongly.

Just remember you are seeing a very edited version in the Doco..it's for ratings..

I listen to the players themselves.. Doueihi for example with his own mouth said Maguire talks to them regularly one on one and small groups regarding tactics

Just so everyone is clear, this has been our worst season for a long time right? Like really think about our wins. Any wins against a full strength top 8 team? I literally can't think of a single win that surprised me. Madge's tenure as coach rides on next season and our results. We need some good wins or he is gone. 1 more year, if that. He's had 3 years to fix the culture, we need to see results. This year has been a void in that area.

For what its worth i would give him until his contract expires. He has gone for rebuilding the club from the base with his emphasis on youth and our long term success instead of a quick fix which has proven on every other occasion to be a failure like all his predecessors have tried(except Sheens). The last bloke who tried for a quick fix here destroyed our cap and we dont get out of the mess until the end of 2022 when we stop paying a former captain to play at the drags. He then betrayed the club and us by running away while under contract and leaving a dogs breakfast for our club to overcome by paying overs to blokes who just dont seem to care.
I want wins as much as everyone else and some of our players dont seem to give a rats the way we as supporters do.At the end of this year Madge has just about weeded these types out the club.
Onward and upward

If Madge is to live or die on wins alone, I mean if that’s the only indicator to measure his failure or success, then at least allow him the time to see the average age of his players equal to, or higher than more than 50% of nrl teams? He’s breaking the cycle and with that changing people’s expectations, if you put a time limit on this you create a vastly different approach, one we’ve previously tried without success. The wins will come when the inexperienced players grow with the speed of the game.

WT’s success is much more important. Can you not see the improvements? We don’t have a top 6 roster yet, but it’s getting there.

Settle down, when you are in charge, you can sack him, but otherwise you’re just a poster on a fan forum?

BTW, I thought last year was worse than this year? The improvements in some of our young blokes this year have been impressive.

Considering our bench, that could be convenient for some if we lose or backfire for them if we win today.

Tigerwest - completely agree, it's all about WT success. Yes, I have seen the improvements of late. Two wins in a row, albeit against weak opposition, but also more positive insights into the behind the scenes workings at the club. If we can win today, do really well against the Panthers and beat the Bulldogs then we will be taking real momentum into 2022. Here's hoping this happens. If the opposite happens, I suppose looking again from the lens of only wanting WT success, then I would be looking at changing the coach. I like the passion of all the supporters on this forum. Whether pro Madge or not, we all want the same thing. If we win today, let's all crack a beer.

I don’t understand the urgency to get rid of the coach? Last year many posters agreed we wouldn’t see positive signs of recovering from the mess Ivan left and the failures of previous coaches until 2022, due to the club’s poor reputation and with 35% of the cap sitting in the stand. Frugality has us to the point of huge improvement and it’s become so urgent to get rid of those who got us here??? I don’t get it??? I’ll be having a beer tonight win lose or draw. ?

Unfortunately some diehard fans dont really understand how tough it is to field an NRL level team to be competative in the toughest comp in the world, young talented guys, hardened near end of career guys, aspiring young guys that have potential and managing the cap that has been decimated by ridiculous over spending and squandering over the years..
Granted people want success, they want to see their beloved team play finals, however, all those things I mentioned take time to,develop, move on and repair while trying to coach the best the squad has to offer at this moment in time...
I get it,its been pretty hard watching some of our games this year, errors, poor positional play, skillset not up to the level and players not ready for the 80 minute grind on top of the new rules that were cast upon them..
Overall I can see that the disappointment is overwhelming from the fan base, but we have to be true Wests/Balmain WESTS TIGERS...two tough teams with tough supporter bases who would never give up and kept fighting no matter the scoreline thats why WTs have to dig deep, play for the coach, club, teamates and fans...thats who we really are and I think Madge is starting to produce those tough hard lines for the benefit of the players so they can become a regular force to reckon with...In my opinion he should see out his tenure and then be judged on that....

The episodes before all I can remember is a lot of swearing, yelling and statements such as '**it's like life and death**' , which I thought were over the top. I'm not yet convinced, but I will back him if we finish this season really strongly.

WT’s success is much more important. Can you not see the improvements? We don’t have a top 6 roster yet, but it’s getting there.

Absolutely true Geo and you see it throughout various clubs,,,not just NRL...

He will be judged on these last 3 games. And i think thats fair.

I doubt the last 3 games will have much bearing in the coach for next year. We are heavy underdogs against the Sharks and Panthers and will beat the Dogs. At best we win 2/3 either way we are not making finals. I doubt they are moving the coach on tbh.

Well said. Prepare to be downvoted by some complete cowards.

Who would you replace him with? No point getting rid of him if there is no one to take over.

If things are not working you have to try something, take a punt. Personally I would target someone like Cameron Ciraldo, John Morris or even Jason Ryles. Younger guys from good systems. Or you go someone like Neil Henry. Sometimes you just need a new face with new ideas

I would keep Madge until Jason Ryles has completed his apprenticeship at the Roosters.
But that is who I would look to to be the next big coach in the game. But the timing is not right.
