Can anyone point out anything that Madge has started that can't be built upon by a new coach next year? To me it's not as if changing coaches will delay us by months or years, it will make no difference. We're basically starting off preseason with a clean slate regardless.

We have to change our assistants and tactics. Change our attacking and defensive game plans. Punt as many players as we can, attract stronger players and try retain as many of our promising juniors as possible.

It's not as if we're halfway through a game changing master plan. Everything we've done has failed, we need to blow things up and start again regardless of who will be coaching. So now it becomes who is the best person to shape our future?

I was a Madge supporter until about halfway through this season when it became clear that he could not or would not adjust our game plans, and that he couldn't motivate our players to even try their best. He now seems incredibly one dimensional, just an old man that yells a lot. Where's the subtleties? Where's the tactical genius? Where's the ability to have players run through walls for you and to create a vision that others want to be a part of? He's a nice guy that cares about the future of this club but in today's game i don't think he's suitable to be a head coach anymore.

Agree with almost everything you say, except changing coaches will make a LOT of difference in several ways
-a new coach will possibly motivate what is currently a disengaged playing group
-a new coach will have some attraction to new recruits where we currently have zero appeal
-a new coach provides new hopw for supporters...new tactics, new systems, new processes..without which were doomed for the spoon

WTDS Wests Tigers Delusion Syndrome.
Accept the playing group is not a finals roster is the only treatment for this. A new coach will get us into the exact same position.

I actually think I could be clinically diagnosed with this

Seems like a moot point now. Madge will stay on. Is it just a stay of execution though?

lol yes. Anyone who thinks he will last the final 2 years is in a fantasy land.

A lot of us have it happens after many years of exposure.

I think keeping Madge is the right decision, whether or not the team goes well next year. Knifing him at this point would be a real betrayal given the circumstances of the last three years. He's weathered all that and he deserves next year to show some results. He still doesn't have ideal circumstances next year, what he's building is still a couple years away, but I get that without progress next year he'll be gone and that's understandable.

It should be simple. Finals in 2022 or he goes. No excuses. No other coach at any other club would survive 4 years without playing finals.

I mean that in the last 8 years (actually 9 years) the Wests Tigers have only *sacked* 1 coach. Jason Taylor.

And Mick potter

Potter wasn't re-signed not sacked technically.

What ever you say

And plus I didn’t say we sacked 6 coaches in 10 years I’m well aware the Ivan ditched the club

What is your point? Was Andrew Webster ever employed as first grade coach? Your point is ridiculous and intentionally misleading. I can prove it.

The Wests Tigers have employed 5 coaches as first grade coachs in 18 years and sacked 2.

This is a fact, does it meet your narrative? The fact is that the Wests Tigers have sacked 2 coaches in 18 years.

Lets get real.
He coaches 2 games until Ivan arrived

Andrew Webster was never employed as first grade coach.. We have had 5 coaches in 18 years. Why did you pick 10 years? The answer is for maximum alignment with your narrative.
sheens 2012, mick potter 2014, Jason Taylor 2017, Ivan Cleary 2018 Madge might be sacked that’s huh i said 10 years
5 Coaches in 18 years. Sacked only 2 coaches in 18 years. Does that work for you in your narrative?

Why*

Why didnt you say 18 years? We have had 5 coaches in 18 years as well. Does that not match the narrative?

How many coaches have the Wests Tigers sacked in 18 years?

2

Hey when was the last time tigers made the finals? 10 years Coincidentally when we had 5 coaches, tigers should of never sacked sheens.

Sacking Sheens was the right decision imo.

So how do you feel about bringing him back?

I thought at the time it was the right decision to move him on, I would have him as coach next year working with an up and coming coach to take over in the next 2 years.

That’s hindsight for you because sacking him clearly was a mistake.

No not really, what is right for an organisation at one point in time may not be the same thing 10 years later.

So tigers were successful without him?

Never said we were successful, I am a fan of Sheens. Just because things didn't get better does not mean the decision to relieve Sheens was wrong. It means the decision to appoint is replacement was wrong.

Ok why did tigers sack him?

I think going from predicted premiers to not making the finals may have had an impact.

Imagine if storm sacked Bellamy for missing one year of the finals?

Imagine if Bellamy coached a team for 10 seasons a d only made the finals three times.

It was time for Sheens to go.

I have no idea about Ciraldo other than what's been written in the media and it's hard to know if people are pushing agendas or if a coach is genuinely a chance of succeeding.

What makes you say he's the real deal and why do you think he can step up from an assistant at a top 2 club to a Head Coach at a club with serious issues?

I know people who are respected in league and they rate him highly. It would be career suicide to join us it makes no sense to me. I always thought and still do Madge is the best coach to be mad enough to coach this club.

There is some sense I guess new COE, Sheens, salary cap space and a good group of younger players. I feel for Madge if he’s punted poor bloke was on a hiding to nothing. Zero help, no recruitment, soap opera tv shows, front office leaking to media, training out of demountables , people not showing up on time to recruitment meetings and returning phone calls, chairman constantly in the media.

I believe whether he stays or goes his time here will be a turning point.

Actually.
I’ve already spent a bit of time looking at this.
In the past 20 years every coach other than Matt Elliot and Nathan Brown has made the finals by their 3rd year.
Browny for Newcastle won 2 wooden spoons rebuilding Newcastle and then had two years with the team more competitive after a few key recruits but still didn’t get there in the forth year.
Matt Elliot with Penrith had a spoon in his first year followed by 12th, 11th and finally a top 4 position in his 4th year.
On another scale the record for returning to finals glory, Sheens holds the record for the time between 2005 and 2010.
John Cartwright after getting Gold Coast to the finals in his 3rd year had a couple of lean years following 2009 and 2010 as top four finalists getting 16th, 11th, 9th, 14th (stepped down with about 4 rounds to go.)

I think we need stability so the young players can see that what they are being sold may be possible. We can't buy them so we have to make sure we keep them.

Thinking about this all night….the only change I’d advocate is Ciraldo….if we get him, we get Kikau for sure, we get Kikau others will follow….Madge whilst doing well bringing on the young guys, stuffed up the recruitment of JAC, who we had in the bag for 2021 if we only gave The Storm Nofo or TT…Madge over ruled both….poor decision.

This to me is a really significant part of that article. If true, I am really happy with it. Madge will have no choice but to work closely with Sheens and a young coach will benefit from his experience and knowledge of the club.

This article makes me thing we are going to chance Cameron ciraldo as our coach

BUZZ reckons we are waiting on Ciraldo, he said this on NRL 360 tonight, I sure hope he is on the money

If the eels do us a favour and knock out the panthers then we might have ciraldo next week .

Massive risk how will he be when the loses come thick and fast because they will come.

This is the problem they have to be honest with fans and give him time if they make this move.

I don't think a rookie coach is a great idea.

If the prospect is good enough, being in tune with both the modern game and youth, then us ready to roll for mine as long as given the necessary backing.

New coach, facilities, Sheens overseeing improved pathways and maybe a CEO, and ready to roll.

Our club is not the place for a Rookie coach.

I think with the core young group we have someone like ciraldo will bring the best in them. He understands the way the game is played now and being younger can relate easier with the players. He has been responsible for the best defence in the game for 2 years. With sheens attacking expertise on top I reckon we are on a winner.

Thanks mate. Appreciate you going into more detail.

It's interesting about Ciraldo, though. Everyone says he's "highly rated", but I'd like to know specifically what he brings that's different from Madge who is also highly rated (or was at least). Not doubting the bloke, just curious.

Agree with you on Madge. The guy came here with a vision for a long-term rebuild ground up and they want to punt him just as he's getting our ducks in a row.

Panthers assistants being talked up as next big thing.

First Garth Brennan - struggled at GC
Then Barrett- struggled at manly now struggling at bulldogs
How does anyone know Cilardo can magically turn a bottom 4 squad into a top 4 squad?

Madge has proven he can coach when given a top squad. It's managements role to get him a top squad - which is still going to take at least 3 years away

According to Chammas, Sheens has been given a clear job title, “Director of Coaching”, with the head coach reporting to Sheens.
Also claims our board is waiting for Panthers season to finish to lure Ciraldo.
