Do people really think a rookie coach could handle our mess. Maybe if his initials are JC.

I hate a rookie coach for us but Ciraldo is the real deal. I’d support the move.

I have no idea about Ciraldo other than what's been written in the media and it's hard to know if people are pushing agendas or if a coach is genuinely a chance of succeeding.

What makes you say he's the real deal and why do you think he can step up from an assistant at a top 2 club to a Head Coach at a club with serious issues?

I know people who are respected in league and they rate him highly. It would be career suicide to join us it makes no sense to me. I always thought and still do Madge is the best coach to be mad enough to coach this club.

There is some sense I guess new COE, Sheens, salary cap space and a good group of younger players. I feel for Madge if he’s punted poor bloke was on a hiding to nothing. Zero help, no recruitment, soap opera tv shows, front office leaking to media, training out of demountables , people not showing up on time to recruitment meetings and returning phone calls, chairman constantly in the media.

I believe whether he stays or goes his time here will be a turning point.

Thanks mate. Appreciate you going into more detail.

It's interesting about Ciraldo, though. Everyone says he's "highly rated", but I'd like to know specifically what he brings that's different from Madge who is also highly rated (or was at least). Not doubting the bloke, just curious.

Agree with you on Madge. The guy came here with a vision for a long-term rebuild ground up and they want to punt him just as he's getting our ducks in a row.

Panthers assistants being talked up as next big thing.

First Garth Brennan - struggled at GC
Then Barrett- struggled at manly now struggling at bulldogs
How does anyone know Cilardo can magically turn a bottom 4 squad into a top 4 squad?

Madge has proven he can coach when given a top squad. It's managements role to get him a top squad - which is still going to take at least 3 years away

Agree, I just think the answer is simple, **we don't have the roster yet,** I agree with the youth policy, but it will take time, no one is going to change us in a season.
Understanding a new coach will want to seek changes to the squad, where would they come from?

Thinking about this all night….the only change I’d advocate is Ciraldo….if we get him, we get Kikau for sure, we get Kikau others will follow….Madge whilst doing well bringing on the young guys, stuffed up the recruitment of JAC, who we had in the bag for 2021 if we only gave The Storm Nofo or TT…Madge over ruled both….poor decision.

Out of all the Panthers players you could think of you chose Kikau?

Agree with you on the Panthers assistants being over hyped. Ciraldo may be the next best thing but he may also be the next big bust.

This is a job for a an experienced coach.

Very good news that Sheens will be the head coach with Maguire as the figurehead coach.
Congratulations to the club. With Sheens heading the coaching I have hope again.
Well done to Maguire for accepting the demotion to figurehead. it can't be easy.
We should all now get behind Sheens and the club and move into our improving future.

According to Chammas, Sheens has been given a clear job title, “Director of Coaching”, with the head coach reporting to Sheens.
Also claims our board is waiting for Panthers season to finish to lure Ciraldo.

Ok, I'll say it again; ignore anything Chammas writes about the Maguire situation and WT. He is driven by spite and vengeance, not ethical journalism standards.

Haha looks like we have a Chammas supporter (his mum?) on the forum?
I thought Ciraldo refused the job offer from his good mate Fitzgibbon to join him at the Sharks, saying he wanted to see out his contract with Panthers through 22?

Wow that’s a winning move from the club if that’s the case ,Sheens head coach .. Maguire figurehead coach ? the new position created by the review board to cover everyone’s failures .
Well I suppose it’s like 6 home grounds now the board are collecting coaches you do not want to pay one out so you employ another only at the Tigers 😂😂

We don't but you'd think he has little choice. Madge focus should be very narrow do what it takes to get into the 8 to save his career.

We still need to get pascoe, Lee and hartigan away from first grade recruitment.

I think you and others are celebrating the "demotion" of Maguire a little prematurely. You're using posts on here, which may or may not be true, and then embellishing them to suit your agenda.

I don't think anyone on here, or anywhere, has said Tim Sheens will be the NRL head coach. It is rumoured that he take on a "coaching coordinator" role, that is, coordinating and supporting the work of all coaches in the club, including NRL Head Coach, Michael Maguire.

IF that is what happens, and I KNOW as little as you do about that, how is that a demotion for Maguire?

Dont disagree, but there are some big elephants in the china shop. Info suggests:
* Maguire has difficulty communicating plans and tactics with the players,
* Has a plan requiring the recruitment of a levy of experienced players to balance the younguns, yet he has been totally unable to recruit these players (not stars just experienced),
* Is paranoid about those around him and no longer picks bright assistants,
* His use of the interchange bench has been damn awful,

On a related issue, WT have a rare opportunity of having around $1.6m to recruit for next season onwards if Maguire continues, I suspect 2022 season will be it for him- he either gets us into final 8 or he is out- more of the same, even if we are heading on trajectory of growth in youth and experience, surely he cannot go on after that. That puts a tremendous pressure on Maguire to recruit for results in 2022. We have the senior personnel to hopefully ensure recruitment still fits the long term plan, but surely the human dynamic will be on everyone to try to get immediate results. I hope WT, Maguire, Hartigan and Sheens dont end up doing another Cleary with the money available.

I don’t see it that way.
Maguire is halfway through his job. It’s been a tough grind, laying the ground work, but he and others have got us to this position where we can see some blue sky. It’s a miracle he still has the support of his players. Let him finish the job.

There was an interesting comment on 100% footy last night by Paul Gallen when he said Sheens was coach of the Australian side when he played for Australia and said he was the smartest coach he ever been involved with.I think with Sheens as Coaching Director,Madge will have someone to bounce his ideas off and the other huge benefit is reggies coach Gardiner will derive great benefit having someone like Sheens providing guidance and on his performances this year is a FG coach in waiting and wouldn't it be great when the time comes to promote from within.

He is not a fan of Madge in the least.

I wanted to keep Madge and get better people around him. The way I see it is the club finally has someone who is willing to stay the course and sort the place out properly, not just a quick fix to make the 8 but to build towards a properly competitive club. But now I have concerns that there is too much noise around about the whole situation. With this much noise it will be even harder for recruitment. The only person that I would want to move him on for is Ciraldo, but looks like we won't have an answer for weeks. I reckon he would be able to recruit quite well with all the hype around him.
If we don't sign Ciraldo then we "missed another one, no one wants to go to the basket case" etc etc. If we do then "they go through coaches like nothing else, should of stayed the course with Madge" etc etc.
I have this image of it being dragged out for weeks and then the club staying with Madge. ie missing Ciraldo and trying to act cool about it
