Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

From everything I’ve ever heard and read, Sheens has always been a real student of the game and would have continued to study the NRL and how it is changing. That’s my hope anyway… along with avoiding any Sheenius type ideas/recruitment/selections!

My mate met Sheens at a speaking gig about 10 years ago - the bloke thinks and talks football non-stop. My mate said he almost had to extract himself from the conversation, as interesting as it was.

The main reason Madge got the job in the first place was because he said he could take our current (2019) squad to the finals, and he wouldn’t require a rebuild. We liked what he was saying so gave Bennett an ultimatum to make sure we didn’t lose both.

Who is the potential candidate who says they could not work with the current squad, at any football club in history? Unless you are hiring Craig Bellamy or Trent Robinson, a new coach does not get to dictate a rebuild.

the game.

No offence but you have a short memory. It's up there with heartless efforts I've witnessed, not worse than, including Taylorball and the famous flogging by Parramatta at Homebush when Danny G went down early and Ben Te'o refused to take hitups.

I was sitting with the players that day against Parra, was a horrible day.

I sat behind Dawn Fraser and she got up and left.

Um, several other prospects said a rebuild would be required and that that would be their priority upon taking the job. To turnaround the squad as quickly as possible. Madge said that wasn't necessary and he could work with our squad and current contacts and get the team to play finals.

Playing finals in the first season isn't a statement all coaches make in the interview process, and with good reason.

I ended up sitting in front Danny when he came back from the sheds.

Nothing really new here.

**Mole Warning**
If the Tigers decide to part ways with Michael Maguire once they complete their long-running review, the man they have their sights on is Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo.

There's just one problem - Ciraldo is unlikely to accept the job if it's offered to him.

The former Sharks and Panthers forward is seen as the next man in line for a head coaching gig, but is more than happy with life as number two to Ivan Cleary at Penrith.

Ciraldo is also smart enough to know that the Tigers are a rabble - and turning them into a winning club could take years.

But all is not lost, Tigers fans. Back in 2002 the club was in a similar mess and sacked Terry Lamb. They offered the job to Craig Bellamy and several others - and all rejected it.

In desperation, they turned to Tim Sheens - whose previous job ended in disaster at the Cowboys - and three years later he delivered them their one and only premiership against the odds.

n the past 20 years every coach other than Matt Elliot and Nathan Brown has made the finals by their 3rd year.

Brad Arthur took 4 seasons to get Eels to the finals.

Yes and Arthur’s teams looked coached what’ Maguires excuse for no defensive structures for 3 seasons .. that’s right the players forgot !

Very good news that Sheens will be the head coach with Maguire as the figurehead coach.
Congratulations to the club. With Sheens heading the coaching I have hope again.
Well done to Maguire for accepting the demotion to figurehead. it can't be easy.
We should all now get behind Sheens and the club and move into our improving future.

Wow that’s a winning move from the club if that’s the case ,Sheens head coach .. Maguire figurehead coach ? the new position created by the review board to cover everyone’s failures .
Well I suppose it’s like 6 home grounds now the board are collecting coaches you do not want to pay one out so you employ another only at the Tigers ??

We still need to get pascoe, Lee and hartigan away from first grade recruitment.

Hartigan needs to have final say on recruitment, with a little guidance from Sheens.

And surely with guidance from Madge as well Cochise.
He is the Head Coach, so surely he gets a say in who he feels he can best work with.

Nothing like some passive lack of assurance to really drive home how hopeless of a situation the media paints this as.

He is talking up his mate as a lot of the media seem to be doing in this story.

How do we know Maguire has accepted it as yet?

We don't but you'd think he has little choice. Madge focus should be very narrow do what it takes to get into the 8 to save his career.

A lot of head coaches wont put up with being told what to do by someone else, and having their power and influence limited. If Madge has a strong backbone he could say it's my way or the highway. If he feels backed into a corner he could walk away.

He knows at best he's got one year to make the finals or he gets sacked next year.

Madge and Sheens were on the same team at Canberra and still share mutual respect, so they will work well together.

Some of the comments in here are just getting stupider and stupider.

Bit like a dog matches its owner, us WT supporters match the club and our board.

Why would Ciraldo knock us back not many opportunities to coach 1st grade. he wouldn't even need to move his family . Every other club looking for a coach would be down the bottom of the ladder like us. Plus our new COE things are looking good for the future.

Because the Wests Tigers kill coaching careers. Only one Wests Tigers coach has ever had another NRL gig and he quit.

I am more talking about as a mentor, I am happy for Madge and Sheens to have input into recruitment decisions, but strongly believe the final decision should rest with Hartigan.

Do people really think a rookie coach could handle our mess. Maybe if his initials are JC.

I hate a rookie coach for us but Ciraldo is the real deal. I’d support the move.

Massive risk how will he be when the loses come thick and fast because they will come.

This is the problem they have to be honest with fans and give him time if they make this move.

I don't think a rookie coach is a great idea.

If the prospect is good enough, being in tune with both the modern game and youth, then us ready to roll for mine as long as given the necessary backing.

New coach, facilities, Sheens overseeing improved pathways and maybe a CEO, and ready to roll.

Our club is not the place for a Rookie coach.

I think with the core young group we have someone like ciraldo will bring the best in them. He understands the way the game is played now and being younger can relate easier with the players. He has been responsible for the best defence in the game for 2 years. With sheens attacking expertise on top I reckon we are on a winner.

I agree, I think a young coach is exactly what we need with all our young players
