Madge was brought in as the Tigers’ saviour.

It really gets me about people saying Madge needs to go....he is to hard a taskmaster,he lost the room,he has no idea of selection, blah blah blah...
Maybe the players are to soft these days or need more money everytime they have a good game or extend the contract because a player had a very good year out of 6 etc etc...
BUT what really gets me everytime Madge is in a presser and a journo questions the players Madge always says "I have a lot of faith in this group of players" he sticks up for them and takes the blame himself and says WE have to fix things up...
Sounds like a reasonable coach not looking for excuses but remedies...and if the players cant commit maybe they should be SHOWN THE DOOR...

But he's already replaced the players with one's he selected and signed. Do we replace all those ones now too?

I feel sorry for the bloke, the defensive structure has been a big focus in the off-season and the players just can't seem to get it right because they're not prepared to put in that extra bit of effort that is often required to hold the line firm.

Works for 1 half

I like the old days when we just sucked 5 mins before and after halftime ?
Then we had a mini comeback but fell short .

People need to drop the 'trash' and 'agenda' stuff...that article is all backed up by facts and stats.

Reality is Madge DID do a hell of a job with our defense year one.

Reality is, right now, we are on an unprecedented 100 year run defensively as the only team in history to concede 26 plus 15 games in a row. That is a stunningly bad stat, and we can't just ignore it.

For whatever reason, with a superior roster now, our defense and record is much, much worse.

Madge is responsible for that, and he would know that.

Personally, I feel like the new rules / quicker ruck speed have brought us undone. We recruited a monster pack, just as the game changed to needing more mobile players. We have no kicking game, right at the time kicking has become the most needed skill in the game.

I was worried about the size as well, but look at the Raiders, Eels and Storm packs. They are huge and still performing under the new rules.

True, but they also have those really fast / mobile / backrowers who make 100 plus, give you 30 tackles and a few offloads.

They balance the big props.

Our backrow is very weak currently:

Twal: very one dimensional
Garner: hit or miss...rarely ever has a 100 meter game 'and' good D.
Luc: Great with the ball...tires and poor defensive cover.

That is a big factor, our backrow sucks, Garner is not up to it, Twal is not a lock and Lucy is out of form

this is their first season together as a team...he may have selected and chosen those players and he has to get them to play,if they dont then maybe the rest might get what JOEY deservedly just got...

It doesn't matter, if we keep playing the way we are he'll leave anyway.

As others have mentioned, the biggest concern is if Madge quits.

Off the back of Ivan quitting, and then a proven premiership coach quits, we may as well fold or relocate.

As, James Graham said last night, when he came to Wigan he completely changed their defence, and he did the same at Souths.

For whatever reason, coaches and players seem to hit the wall when they spend extended time at the club. I have no idea how this happens.

Think about players like Packer, Reynolds, and Mbye who were decent players before they got here. BJ was much better at Canberra. We occasionally get a player that improves here like LL, but it is way too rare.

Is it the losing culture? Is it the facilities? Is it 1000 home grounds? I don't know.

The coach isn't the issue. It's the head office.
So many errors were made even as far back as Sheen's/Humphreys days. We need some top administration.
I hate Phil Gould but it's the type of guy we need.

This is spot on.

Madge has a squad next weekend made up of 12 players who were more or less unwanted by their previous clubs.

Every club needs a few of these blokes to keep things ticking over, but relying on them to perform consistently enough to secure a top 8 finish shows how clueless head office are.

I reckon this it it ..
The John West’s Tigers...a team full of rejects and superannuation gold diggers ..
Top teams only have 1 or 2 plodders
We have a top 30 plodder roster bar a couple .

Hope you're right. Combo's can improve but i'm not sure how you can improve a team with such a lack of hunger and drive

A bit harsh, but yeah, even worse when some of our own version of those JW rejected plodders are flying high taking positions in one of last year's grand finalists with our traitor of a former coach.

Someone needs to go into Concord and perform an exorcism - there has to be some sort of curse on the place. It’s the only possible reason I can see as to why so many previously decent players turn to complete shite when they don our colours and so many well credentialed coaches can’t do a thing about it!

Honestly the problem isn't as deep as it seems. Pretty much every try went through our left side where we had Brooks, Kepoa and Leilua - three of the worst defenders in the NRL. That side was attacked all day by Keary, Tedesco and Morris - all top 3 players in the world at their respective positions.

The rest of the team did a good job - its just one or two extremely weak points that blow out the statistics

I think we should keep Madge but the team is looking pretty much revamped now. It's hard to blame the cattle again.

Only that Brooks’ best asset was his defence until last week. There is definitely more to it than that.

The top 4-6 teams have one thing in common, they’re all excellent defensive units.

When their attack isn’t firing they man up and shut down the opposition regardless.

I can forgive our current lack of attack, that will come when the spine gels, but defensively we’re nothing more than a speed hump.

That for mine is a coaching issue.

That for mine is a player ATTITUDE issue, the coach cant go out there and do it for them...stop blaming the coach for player incompetence, they are professional players who have played the game for years and some at above NRL standard (rep)..

The game’s changed due to the 6 again and new scrum/penalty rules. We haven’t adapted our game plan, that’s a coach issue.

You’re obviously not watching the same matches that I am.

So does that explain off the ball play where players are jogging after a break is made, rather than chasing and doing everything thing they can to shut the attack down?
