Madge's plans for Halves

Well Bagnf,Simkins,JO,steff,Laurie, etc were signed before media was aware, these deals need to be made on the quiet.Lee and Madge were in the media spruiking about our interests in Harry,JAC,Cheese,Mansour, and Mc Guiness ,we did not sign any of these players. And there are always players on the radar, its just smart to keep it behind closed doors.

Hi everyone, longgggggg time reader, first time poster (finally created an account).

I'm wondering what everyone thinks Madge's plans for our halves pairing will be for 2022 and beyond? It's pretty clear Brooks and Doueihi will get first crack in 2021, but further than that I haven't seen anything that suggests Madge sees Brooks as our long term halfback. Have we been active in any capacity in looking for halves or do you think this is something that will come on Madge's radar for 2022 if Brooks/AD fail to deliver?

All the best!

Welcome

In terms of halves for this year..we have some nice depth with madden comming through , and also mbye could slot into halves if needed in a pinch... walters also could slide in around seasons end when he finished his acl rehab

Besides Fullback, and Second Row the halves are probably out weakest position depth wise.
I wouldn't call Madden depth - he's young and yet to play any NRL. Mbye is a stop gap and Walters is a poor man's Reynolds.

Let's also remember that Brooks was dropped to the bench last year for poor form. Of he fails to fire early I dare say Madge will be splashing on a halfback for '22.

I think we may want to tsunami out for a replacement half ...well at the very least bombdive .......splashing doesn't seem to work

I am almost certain that our halves will be a great pairing, shining with the quicker and sweet ball that they will receive from Liddle and if Simpkins has similar crispness and ability to force his way in, even better. I see the respective strengths of our front three playmakers in the spine this coming season as complimentary to each other, a cohesive sum of it's parts.

Despite the undoubted effort and strengths of Harry's game, I saw a middle getting dominated by defences and detraction from Brooks' game with deference to Benji when on the field and particularly so when in the attacking zone. I am unsure as to the coach's role in the latter, though I feel he made some alterations later in the year to remedy that and noted that we looked good when both nines were on the field.

Doueihi looked a natural in his stint filling in at six and whilst I will miss him under the high ball at the back, his deficiency of pace there caused problems that will be of little concern as a half that will feed his outside backs. In the assumed absence of until next year of Laurie, if Mbye can find some of his old fullback form or Asu takes on the role, I see WT as having a competent spine.

Is Tannous to be considered as a half back option or just a 9? He looked dynamite in that highlights package.

I just don't think we can offer any more outs for Brooks other than a dud go forward from the pack. No half shines behind a beaten pack but all the other stuff in regard to those inside and outside him has run it's course - imo. All halves have to work effectively with the players around them - none of whom are perfect and Brooks does too. Liddle and Douehi can not be held accountable for an indecisive Brooks when Brooks is the senior player. He has to lead.

He looks good and was training with the squad, but probably 2022 as i think he is in Flegg this year.i'm not sure if and when they can move him up.Probabley waiting to see how he goes, i expect Kei who can play after round 16 to make grade first. But he is a centre .

Luke is a momentum half. He need quick ball and space to run with players running good lines off his hips.

AD is a toiler & smart thinker. Has a good pass and reasonable kicking game.

I do think that AD and Brooks could compliment each other well if they had a ball playing fullback mixed with them.

If one goes down we are in serious trouble as have no depth in the halves this year (not that it saved us last year when we did)

Great post, you only have to look at how good easts halves look when Teddy chimed in.Same as Manly with TT,and STorm with Paps, the Tigers halves have not had that luxury.

I think the time is right for Madden to step up if either AD or Brooks in particular go down injured or have form issues.

My only concern is his defence, but he looks to have bulked up a bit so that will help.

I would really like a half with a decent long kicking game, the tigers must be the worst team in the nrl for kick metres gained

Mates of mine who are massive Knights fans often say we bagged a good one with him. Apparently Andrew Johns was filthy with Newy for letting him go and has massive wraps on him.

Joey rated Moses aswell

Brooks has been our halfback for the past 6 years. If that's not long term I don't know what is...

Is Madden a halfback or 5/8? I don't see AD being able to play halfback as he is more a running 5/8. I agree with the sentiment that it really is last chance for Brooks in 2021. I know he has a few more years on his contract but all it would take is signing a better halfback to replace him then he would bail to a new club.

On that note however, there really doesn't seem to be any decent halves on the market. Burton seems to be the most promising emerging talent but Bulldogs have him locked up with Flanagan for 2022 onwards.

Madden is a half.

Madden is a halfback, Doueihi has actually spent more time playing halfback than 5/8th in the NRL.

I believe he's rated as well ......... very much OVER rated.

While i think Brooks has been pretty ordinary playing under Madge. He really did show a lot of promise in 2018 when he won halfback of the year. I don't think the award was completely deserved, but he was easily top 5 halfback that year. I praying to every football god that Brooks finds this form

Watching training clips etc, madden seems to get used a lot at first receiver throwing short balls to Luciano and Jimmy etc, I wonder if he’s closer to first grade than we think
