Maguire will wait and see with Farah but won't take risks

I think Farah has been an outstanding player for a long long time. Also I trust Maguire’s judgement.

So it’s with trepidation that I ask .......

Hasn’t our attack looked it’s fastest and most slick these last two weeks?

My thoughts exactly. I’d be hesitant to bring Robbie & Mbye back even if 100% fit. Maybe Mbye for Jennings, moving Momo to the wing, although he has been strong at centre. But Benji & Josh have been doing such a good job at hooker, I don’t see the need to change. Especially if it’s right for the team.

Madge will definitely earn his money this week!

Id keep pushing the story until the official team list is named and hour before kickoff ?

Can't imagine that the risk of him being one of the two warm up reserves will be taken, so for mine he is either out at the first cull or playing.

I’ll go with the coach on this one, if he’s fit I say go with him, helps our defence around the ruck . I’d keep Reynolds on the bench which probably means Lawrence misses out which maybe is fair enough after the shenanigans this week although that whole circus seems so out of character for him so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt

We all have our thoughts on this but I am glad I am not the coach and the one making this decision.. Either way his decision is going to come under fire... This is the longest week and cannot wait until Sunday..
Does anyone know the weather prediction ?

@hsvjones Totally agree.

I think it's a very tough decision that will get criticized either way.

I really like what Benji has done out of dummy half, and Reynolds has brought some energy. I am worried about the service Reynolds provides from 9 though, it has been very average in the past and he didn't really showcase it against the Dragons - that game was more about his running game which is good, but the very last play in the game was really ordinary from him... gave the markers every chance to make a play at his arms.

If Farah is fit, and is looking good throughout the game, I'd probably say bring Reynolds on in that QLD 14 role.

Regardless of how he comes through training it needs to be strong enough to come under heavy attention. Players like Gallen, Graham and Fifita will target him in the tackle and cannonball him every time he runs in order to put as much pressure on his leg as possible.

It needs to be 100% healed and good as new or he shouldn't play.

I agree fellas.

The other aspect of this is how well Brooks has been playing. Surely some of this improvement could be a result of Benji getting into dummy half early, which means Luke MUST step up and be busy and positive?
Then by the time Benji is back into the halves, Brooks is already in the groove, and Benji then is able to play a bit more direct too while Reynolds brings some fresh energy.
What's not to like?

They’ll only get criticised if they lose.

Just saw Madge's presser today, I dont think Farah will be playing. He emphasised the fact that the squad had being doing the job over recent weeks. I cant see him changing a winning combination.

Maguire makes call on Farah injury but won't reveal decision

NRL.com Fri 6 Sep 2019, 11:04 AM

Mystery surrounds whether Robbie Farah will be fit for Sunday's must-win clash with Cronulla after Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire said he'd made a final decision but would not reveal it until an hour before kick-off.

Maguire was coy on Friday morning when asked about Farah's attempt to make an early comeback from a broken leg for what could be the final match of the retirement-bound club legend's career at Leichhardt Oval.

In shades of Cooper Cronk saying information about his injury in grand final week last year was on a "needs to know" basis, he said nobody needs to know about Farah's injury status despite repeated questions from the reporters.

If the Tigers win, they make the finals but if the Sharks come away with the points they will snatch the last spot in the playoff equation.

"I know what it takes at this time of year, you need 17 fit men on the park and the decision that I make around that are going to head towards that," Maguire told reporters at Concord Oval.

"He and I, it’s all about the team. It’s a do or die, it’s a must-win game. So I’ve got to pick the squad that I believe is going to go out there and get the job done.

"I’ve got a really fit squad at the moment, so I’ve got to take that into account with where we’re going.

"I’ve got 17 men who have been playing over the past couple of weeks, who have been performing so I’ve got to make sure that I look at that. I’m very confident in that crew as well, the way they’ve been playing and the fitness of that group."

It is understood Moses Mbye (hip injury) is out but Maguire said he has not officially been omitted from the squad.

My take on the above, and how Madge spoke at the press conference is that Robbie won't play - the decision was made several days ago and the rest of us won't know until an hour before kickoff. Madge may be a hell of a poker player but I didn't get the impression that he's going to risk changing a winning formula in what is effectively a semi-final game - let's not forget Robbie's cardio work over the past few weeks would have been extremely limited while he has had to stay off his leg as it heals - even though he has been running this week, it's still limited running and I predict will be a very physical match which you just can't take the risk of playing someone who is effectively underdone...

I agree, we've yet to see a decent disciplined team attempt to break Benji and Grub down.

I'm not saying you change a winning combination, but there are clear deficits in having Grub come on late and finish hooker, as well as positives, but the service is average and defence a bit haphazard.

I think we can all agree that Knights were not mentally in the first game and we broke them with the Jennings-Garner back-to-back tries. Dragons tried hard but lacked clinical finish on anything they did, with missed tackles galore.

Two really good wins but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a long-term workable strategy. And Cronulla now have had 2 weeks of video to break down what must have caught Newcastle completely by surprise.

I think where we will win will be that marshall plays off the cuff, completely unstructured. If we played the bunnies last night where the roosters were very rigid in their attack, marshall would've bounced around everywhere to create what we need.
We stick to that and keep our defence up, that's us winning. Sharks won't know what to do

Think the problem with that is if he plays he won’t run, which already puts us at a disadvantage.

How Ive read it too. Will be the same 17 as the last two rounds
