Mahe Fonua

I dunno the majority of the tries he covered the 6m in lightning pace for mine…

He isn't rapid, he is quick over 30/40, but then fades. However, we use our wingers as props coming out of back field, and he could be knackered after all of that work.

2 weeks ago, got an intercept and then fades, luckily Albert Kelly was supporting. However, the guy who caught him is one of the quickest in the league.

He played centre a lot last year, but he gets more ball now he is a winger, due to kick returns etc. and these kick returns allow him to have a 10-15metre run up to hitting the defenders. Finds his front virtually every time, wins so many penalties due to this and trying to get a quick play the ball

This shows Fonua's handling skills - couple of fantastic one handed off loads to the winger

Thanks Wildie. Appreciate the honest take, especially since you watch him week in week out.

He will be missed by the fans, he interacts well, loves the songs about him, puts everything into every game and suits the way we play. The tough task for us now is to find someone who provides the impact he does out of backfield

great upper strength, keeps on his feet, attracts the defending winger in to help with the tackle, able to keep the ball carrying arm free to get the flick to his unmarked winger. Nofo would love those.

Missed tackle at the end lead to a try.

His missed tackle right at the end looks like a bit of a concern. He was burnt for pace quite easily. Great touches with the ball in hand though.

That was a poor attempt of a tackle … below is an article from the Hull Daily Mail, dated September 2016, that supports Fraze23\. One paragraph reads

"There's a deficiency in his defence, the odd misread apparent. I know the coaching staff at Hull will together with Fonua work hard to eradicate the poor reads."

I bet his defense was sound at Melbourne. Defense has a lot to do with the coach and defensive structure Melbourne being the example.

He also played wing at Melbourne which is what he will do for the Tigers.

Is that Weststigers or Carlingford Tigers?

SO why did he leave Melbourne? Did he get replaced? Seems odd for a young player that was doing ok to go to the ESL. Why didn't he stay in the NRL. Offered a truck load of cash?

I'm not overly rapt in this potential signing. He seems like an exact clone of Noffa. We already have a noffa. We need our opposite winger to have a lot of pace.

You are correct. Similar to Nofoaluma and lacks genuine pace. Strong winger on the right but electric pace on the left wing. We can't score points or defend them now so we are buying a winger who has defensive issues, is not overly tall and lacks genuine pace.

The glass isn't half empty - it's just twice as big as it needs to be
