At this point we have more or hope of unearthing another Benji or Tedesco. I thought we may have had something with Simpkin, but he’s been a big disappointment so far. Especially when you see guys like Walker and Walsh who are a year younger come in and take games by the scruff of the neck.

Simpkin has been very disappointing. He looked lost when he came on against the warriors.

Also gave away a 6 again which led to try. Dont think Maguire was very happy.

What's he gonna do?
He let's a few of these clowns get away with continuous nonsense but he's not happy with Simpkin?

The guys a melt.

I think Simkin has done well at this stage of his career. Hookers like halves need to build combinations and confidence with those around them. He has had little time, this kid is good, give him a chance.

Agreed mate, but I also have no problem with him spending a little more time in reserve grade. The reason that Grant was able to come in and dominate last year is the time he spent developing in Qld cup.

I feel we got burnt more than others last year without the lower grades playing to develop players. Hartigan brought in a good crop of younger players and we had to sit on them for 12 months.

Very good point mate, really put their development back.

We definitely need a marquee signing but I don't like the idea of going out and buying one. I'd prefer going after junior talent like Walsh or Ponga when he went to the Knights.

It's more of a risk but we tend to stuff up by paying marquee dollars and getting plodders.

I'd love us to get a signing like that Walsh kid.

We’ve been doing that but everyone wants them dropped after an average game or bad gam! They expect perfection from the first game. Laurie is our walsh and Walker.

Agree with the Laurie comment but he’s not in those two’s league ... well not yet anyway

He would be if he was playing at the back of a team that played with some sort of structure and passion every week. That he is the stand out in our mob each week at his young age makes him better than both Walker and Walsh imo.

I think Walsh and Walker play outside structure and that’s what’s makes them so brilliant. Totally agree with your passion comment through

I think we all need to cool our heels a bit on the hysteria for Walsh, Walker and Suaalii etc. They're obviously talented. Fair enough. But, smart coaches can limit their influence, as shown by the job TPJr did on Walker last night. I think to be labelling them as "marquee" at this stage is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion. Ask Zac Cini how quickly the fall from penthouse to out-house can be.

This is so true. To be honest Walsh was either going to have a cracker or shocker against us. Unfortunately we rolled snake eyes.

He has made an absolute heap of mistakes in his first few games. I thought going into the game he’d either win it or lose it for them.

We've signed heaps of superstars

Jamal Idris
Matt Ballin
James Roberts

We just didn't sign them in their primes

Matt Ballin and superstar shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence.

Who would you go after? Which player would be worthy of 11% of our cap? What expectations would you have of such a player? In what way would he influence team performance?

Tommy Turbo for me, I would make him offer he couldn’t refuse. My expectations would be he would give us the drive and go forward we are currently lacking.
Look what he does to Manly, from easy beats to final 4 since he been on the park.

Sounds good. We may as well grab Cleary while we’re there.

We can forget about “marquee” signings…that sorta player will never come to this club

That’s been our issue hasn’t it. It’s like a chicken and the egg scenario. Need the players to get the result but no marquee wants to come because we don’t currently get the results.

Yes you’re probably right.

Although I think an argument could be made that Idris and Roberts were borderline superstars of their era. When you throw in the speed and excitement of Roberts and the power and persona in Idris’ case.

Ballin seemed the obvious odd one out to me anyway.

Yes but I’m guessing the question had a level of realism built into it.

If you’re just talking from a purely fantasy perspective then fair enough. Turbo sounds great, so does Cleary like I said.

But those suggestions aren’t based in reality.

Olam to slap Noffa every time he breaches past olam's outside shoulder,Nuikorie, old hand like Feldt.Maumolo on the oppisite side

We have 3 players who could become Marquee players if given the right opportunity, that is definitely not our problem.

1. Laurie
6. Doueihi
9. Simpkins

Is a lock in for the next 10 years if given the right platform.

EVERYONE else needs to go, its as simple as that. From coach to players.

I’m sorry but none of our players cut it.

Nofa, Leilua, Roberts, Talau, Brooks...gone.

Tamau, Twal, Garner, L Leilua...gone.

Ofa & Blore can stay...The rest, cya later.

How sad is it that our side is a string of has beens and reserve grade quality players.

Sadly, I think I’ve seen enough of those three to say marquee player is a stretch, they’re your basic run of the mill first graders, maybe throw in Twal too.
