Marshall's 250th match!

So I will always like the bloke, but I hope he doesn't play against us next week, he can save his winning 250th game till the week after, and we can all enjoy it with him.

Every kid wanted to be like Benji Marshall in one Era..

I can prescribe him two weeks off if you want ?
Give a Dr Cert as well .. lol

Everyone remembers Benji for his amazing attack. Put simply, he transformed the game and at his peak was probably the best in the world. In 84 years time, he will be in the Tigers team of the century.

I always admired him for his toughness. To come back so many times after injury was a real testament to him.

Kudos Benji on a fantastic achievement. If he runs out against us wearing the big red V for his 250th game, I for one will stand and applaud.

Congratulations to him on his achievement when it comes around, just glad he isn't running out for us anymore.

Was pretty jaded when he left, parading around in the Auckland Blues jersey while still being signed, having a sook after getting benched by Potter and then signing with another NRL club after saying he'll never play against us. As time has gone on though that has waned a little and I still prefer to remember him as the player he was at Wests. For every cut out pass to the punter in row H there was an astounding bit of magic. One thing I'll never forget was when Marshall scored off a snap pass from Matty Utai, that was hilarious and typified Marshall: unorthodox.

I remember the first game I took my son to. Towards the end of the game, Benji did one of his miracle passes, which actually came off. We were sitting in the perfect spot to see it up close. All I could do was laugh.

Funnily enough, that game was against the Dragons…

Has been postponed…

Will be in the stands if it's against us...so expecting a few cut out balls and kicks out on the full to land in the lap...

Sorry I 100% disagree.
He's the most overrated player ever to play Rugby league. I enjoyed watching him when he came on the scene but after that I just could not see what everyone else could. As the years went on he got worse. The only thing I liked about his later career was his ego to knock back our ridiculous offer to him to stay.

Over to you to smash in Stryker

You 100% disagree Shane? 100%? LOL….
His worth to this club transcended the footy field. He brought in millions in sponsorship and PR dollars. He gave this club a profile. Channel 9 were tripping over themselves trying to schedule if the Tiges would play Friday night or Sunday arvo just so that they could get him on telly for the wider audience.

Was he the game's best ever? No. Was he the game's most entertaining? Quite possibly. He was certainly the most entertaining of his era and that's no mean feat when you consider his peers. Could he control a game like Johns, Locky or Freddie? No...could he execute a game plan like JT, Cooper or Foran? Not usually. But....could any of those guys do what he could? We're they capable of making a whole stadium get on its feet as often as he could? His highlights reel seems to have been written and directed by Hollywood's most creative minds. Even the most absurd ways of scoring tries were either achieved or attempted by him. He was a human being playing football against robots and as such he failed regularly however he also succeeded a lot and when he did, the robots had to be reprogrammed to keep up with his thinking as their circuits were fried lmao....

Tough, quick between the ears...an elusive and entertaining visionary. Congrats on 250 games.

Going to my sons footy training and attending junior games regularly at the height of Benji career…. The influence he had on kids everywhere of most ages was phenomenal.... It was a hell of a time trying to school our frontrowers out of doing a Benji step just before the line.
He's left a legacy.
Joey's banana kicks
Sbws flick passes
Benjis steps
Not many players have such an influence

For the people bad mouthing Benji about his playing style when he was with us, give yourself an uppercut… simple

Why?
A LOT of his play was utter rubbish, and he admitted himself he wasn't having a go at the end

As someone stated earlier he won us more games than he lost, the amount of work he did for the tigers off the field was never noticed as well.

If I was playing for the Tigers run by the management it had cough Mayer cough I wouldn't bother putting in 100%.

Benji loved his fans and always wanted to put on a show for us but when it didn't work out he copped it, and when it did he was praised. His performances have won us many footy games including the 2005 final. Benji is a champion, sad to see you couldn't realise that.

I now realise you condone a so called pro 'dogging it'

Champions don't dog it… Ever

I don't condone it, when a player losses his passion to play it's hard to get motivated by games… i just don't blame him

you have pretty much highlighted why Marshall would be an immortal for us, yet the Broncos and kin would laugh at us for doing so…

Superstars of the game strive for perfection. Benji just played the odds and knew if enough flick passes and fantasy football was played, the occasional ball had to stick. His stint at the dragons overall, has been a lesson to us Tigers fans, when he was asked to, and new there, he towed the line, as if he actually understood the game.... but alike when he played for us, as his contract come up he reverted to the highlight reel play to secure his spot and started passing to the bleachers again.

The super spines of the modern era have dominated irrespective of who was around them. We for a period chose to revolve around Benji.... and it was proven wrong by how few times we made the semis.

Put it this way would you rather watch Benji in his prime or Cronk?

Congrats on your 250th game Benji. You'll always be a Tigers legend. But if you do play us next week I hope we flog your new lot!

Rate him or hate him Benji did so much for our profile and supporter base. How many kids were wearing his jersey and idolising him?
In full flight he was fantastic to watch. I will always love the guy for playing a huge part in winning us the GF

Well said Black & White.

I think Benji gets a bad rap on here because of how he left. His final year here was terrible, both on and off the field, but he was a pretty good player when he was healthy.

* 2003 - 2005 - Coming into grade, culminating with a Grand Final win in 2005.

2006 - 2009 - Plagued by injury but generally looked good on the field, particularly 2009.

2010 - 2011 - Was in great form from playing his first full season (2010), leading to two consecutive finals appearances.

2012 - Benji gets a lot of hate for this year but he was pretty damn good. Led the league for try assists and line-break assists, but couldn't get to the finals because of injuries and Sheenius giving him a different five-eighth to work with every week.

2013 - Played terribly, hardly ran the ball, and was a sook off the field. Threw his toys out when he didn't get what he wanted.

So he was really only terrible in his final year, injuries aside. Granted, I can see why a lot of people lost respect for him with the way he left. But his form didn't wildly fluctuate like everyone makes it out to be on here.

Fair point. I think his reputation is also diminished because even when he he was playing well, he still had those bad traits like loose passes. A casual observer might think 2011 Benji was pretty similar to 2013 Benji.
