Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Well we missed the spoon by that much, and before a ball is kicked in 2016 we are that close to getting the spoon again. if the club lets marty leave and we still have the robbie affair hanging over are heads we will be odds on for that spoon. we have little or no forward power and we look like letting two players who can hold there own go , I JUST DONT GET IT. I would have hoped the new CEO would have fixed the robbie matter by now one way or the other. I hear through a 3rd party offical in the tigers that marty will not stayy if robbie leaves, cant confirm but again the bloke is a good friend and he says the camp is at war, make of it what u will. I for one iam sick of letting players go and signing powder puff replacements, the old management and the new have wreck the tigers and if next year carries on like this year i will never go to another gane nor support the club again i will continue to have a soft spot for them but enough is enough, how many years does it take to fix it.

well said bp tiger…I couldn't say it any better.the club is a hopeless and they expect us all to fork out good money again to buy our memberships..well I wont be and its not just because of the taupau situation but because of 4 years of inept management that's gets worse by the day.it breaks my heart but I wont be going to games again until things change.call me disloyal but we all deserve better.

The bottom line is, Marty is under contract for 2016, so basically he can not leave without our blessing. My gut feeling the club has backed it self into a corner of the Farah thing. They expected to be rushed with offers from rival clubs to take over a fair chunk of Farah's contract and for what ever reason this has not happened. So without farah going we are still suffering from cap problems, so they will probably release Marty.

If they do not have to release him in order to balance the books, than I would insist on him seeing out his contract, Why give Manly a leg up. On the other hand with the money he wants in 2017 and beyond I am sure we could spend our money better

smithy, thanks for that support , its not been disloyal or walking away , but how many times does the club want to kick its supporters in the nuts, one year two years its more like last 5 years and looking like been another 5 plus years. other clubs just get stronger, the EELS were down and out yet sign FORAN, SCOTT , and a couple of others. the dragons were on there knees yet have signed 5-6 good 1ST graders, even the raiders with dickhead RICKY in charge have signed well.but we can just manage to but from the $2 dollar shop and i mean just, and at the same time release any one who is good. Think i need a cold beer and a lay down, thats my rant for the year.

I dont see how Manly could afford Marty after paying that ridiculous amount of money for DCE let alone the other high profile players they have. If this was to be the case id say they would have to be offloading 2 maybe 3 players to fit in Marty, just cant see it TBH.

It's getting very obvious who the players support in the Farah saga - and they're the ones on the inside.

Is it obvious - I assume you mean the players support the clubs decision as out of a top squad of around 30 we have so kept every single player we intended too since Robbie's negotiation was made public by his dodgy manager.

Who have we lost since the announcement - we have resigned a couple of players, we have had rumours of only 1 player supposedly leaving and that seems like it will be more about money then anything else.

We have a number of other young stars who haven't talked about going anywhere. Of course when asked in public they support their captain but some of them at least will be ok with him going, most won't care either way really because they are professional footballers and like when someone leaves any workplace everyone says goodbye and nice things and then you see them once in a blue moon for a drink for most of a squad.

All those clubs didn't have players like Farah and Lawrence on huge back ended contracts and the like.

The article is from the same bloke who thinks San Francisco 49's fans are selling their season tickets because the hype over Jarryd Hayne is wearing off :crazy

I agree, keep him , and a good idea would be play him in reserve grade with Robbie . At least supporters could have a decent chance of a good team to watch and the chance of a premiership, any premiership .
And if Teddy wants out later, put him in there with Robbie and Marty.
Jeez, I'd drive down from the Coast for a couple of their games.
And if we could get the Walker Bros. to coach them, that would be worth seeing.
By the time the season starts there may be more in there with them. Who knows, now that We have this now " professionally run"club, anything could happen at any time.

Rothfield has all the credibility of a snake oil salesman. That said, this continuing barrage of negative publicity, whether having substance or not, must be doing the club's image, sponsorships and possible TPA deals immense damage. The Farah situation seems to be driving most of this and has to be resolved asap and preferably before pre season starts in a month or so. As for Taupau, Marty has a year to go on his current deal at WT and should definitely not be released. Gordon at the Sharks wanted out mid season to join the Eels. Sharks said no. Gordon then got on with the job and ended the year one of their best players. A lot can happen in a year. He might decide to stay after all.

Surely we are not going to swap Taupau for Ballin? Good player but we already have a 31 year old number 9\. I know I should dismiss it as a rubbish article, but this is the West Tigers and you learn to expect the unexpected.

Will be sorry to see him go if this proves to be true. But he is just a man, he is not a club and he is not a legacy.

Not just any man….. A beautiful specimen... Hunk of a man.

Forget the beer BP. In your case Camomile tea is a much better option.
Great for calming the nerves.

You beleive what you want, the players are siding with their captain, and if super coach Taylor loses Tapau because of his hate for Farah, I hope he never gets to coach another day in his life, his ego is bigger than Farah's.

Or maybe… Just maybe... Taupau can get better money for next year and two years after that by heading elsewhere at a club that has a recent history of success? Might be a purely financial decision for him. For God's sake he was heading to the NFL five minutes ago. If Manly want to pay $700K a year for a 40 minute player, good luck to them.

Maybe he can't handle Farah's ego?

See, I can speculate as well.
