smithy, thanks for that support , its not been disloyal or walking away , but how many times does the club want to kick its supporters in the nuts, one year two years its more like last 5 years and looking like been another 5 plus years. other clubs just get stronger, the EELS were down and out yet sign FORAN, SCOTT , and a couple of others. the dragons were on there knees yet have signed 5-6 good 1ST graders, even the raiders with peanut RICKY in charge have signed well.but we can just manage to but from the $2 dollar shop and i mean just, and at the same time release any one who is good. Think i need a cold beer and a lay down, thats my rant for the year.

Forget the beer BP. In your case Camomile tea is a much better option.
Great for calming the nerves.

Says the one that home brews  . Love ya TM.

BP a minimum of 6 is required, Go the Foxes

Lol FT  My better half does the brewing… I just do the taste test...

Marty's biceps are bigger than my thighs

The Release hasn't happened yet. It doesn't add up he has a deal for 3 years for $1.90m reportedly.
That's $630k a season with Manly .

Tigers offer was a further 2 years at $550k which, stacks up a $1.650m over 3 years if as reported we are bringing it forward. Unless the Tigers are sticking to the bargain basement contract Taupau is on next year and he is forcing the release because he is underpaid.

If the Tigers force him to sit out the season he will eventually sign with the Tigers IF its a financial decision. If my figures are right and he is leaving for $80kp.a. which, is $40k after tax it is simply a football decision based on whats bet for his career.

Just read an update while up feeding the little one (still from Buzz so large grains of salt) that now they are saying Taupau has signed with Manly from 2017 and is trying to get a release but we haven't granted as yet. This seems more realistic and to be honest we should stick to our guns and hang onto him for 2016 and then gives us time and space in the cap for 2017

He is signed for 2016\. We do not release him. After the Austin debacle I don't think many fans would wear it. It's not as if we have someone lined up to replace him. He stays.

I could be wrong but i don't think clubs can approach for 2017 till November?

Of course that doesn't mean they haven't.

Despite people offering up the Taupau situation as proof that the sky falling in on the club, I still have some optimism for the future.

Our biggest problem at the moment is that the club has been hit by multiple cement trucks and is struggling to cope.

New Board, New CEO, New Coach, New Players … at other clubs these things happen over time, usually with years and years in between each event. At our club they have all happened at once, and not surprisingly it is causing problems.

Add to that the ownership issues regarding Balmain, and the funding issues it has caused, plus uncertainty over training facilities going forward, and its no wonder the Club is struggling on multiple fronts at the moment.

Management has a huge task on its hands, however once all this is sorted over the next 12-18 months I am confident that we can get back to where we should be.

If he wants out and doesn't want to be at the club then let him go, we don't need people at the club that don't want to be there, I know he was one of our best this year but who cares

I don't agree Westy. Letting players go who have made their name by being given an opportunity to play first grade with the Tigers and are still under contract is foolhardy. We don't have the resources or the back up players to continue to let the club be a revolving door. Austin, Tapau and to a lesser extent Korebeti were astute buys for our club and we should be able to reap the benefits for this. Letting them go when they are contracted does not sit well with me and I suspect many others. The club needs to play hard ball in these situations.

A hell of lot is ridding on our team in 2016, I just do not think our club can take another very average year, so with that in mind we just can not afford to let Marty walk without getting another player of equal standing in return. In the long run we could probably get better value for our dollars by buying a quality backrower with a big engine or a player like Klemmer but they are not available in 2016.

Taylor has to dig his heels in on this one and not relent

I care. I like Marty to see out his contract with us. :supporter:

Taupau has to man up and see his contract out ..the Tigers can not let this guy walk if he wants to go elsewhere for 2017 and beyond good luck to him . This club has let to many walk for what ever reason to let this happen again time to stand your ground and not be used as a door mat!

Klemmer will be a Bulldog for a long time to come, if his great form continues.

50/50 on this one… I'd love to see him playing here next year, but I also feel we will look stupider by not granting him the release considering the RF affair.

Clubs Call?!

If the reported Manly signing amount of $700,000 is correct then I gather that Tigers management either did not believe Taupau was worth that amount or couldn't fit him under the cap. It always amazes me how a club like Manly can pay $1.25 million for Cherry-Evans (average amt. over his contract) and then pay Taupau $700,000 on top of their other quality players be it Lyons, Stewart, Myles, Matai etc etc!! It appears the lack of quality 3rd party deals are killing any chances that the Tigers have of securing or enticing decent players to the club.

No way this bloke is worth $700k a year or anywhere near it. He is not an 80 minute player for a start. That said, I don't see why we should become a doormat for the likes of Manly. Make him see out the last year of his deal and use the time to look for a replacement. If he doesn't play well enough, drop him to Reggies. If Robbie's playing there too that's one comp we should do well in!
