Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

If Taupau leaves I believe it's because the club has chosen David Klemmer over him. That's just my opinion and gut feeling, and it won't be for 2016\. It's to get Ballin for nothing next year, punt Farah and have Klemmer aboard in 2017\. By this time Cherrington will be expected to be a gun, the interchange will be only 6, and Klemmer can play longer and better minutes than Marty. Time will tell.

It means Taylor is very confident of seeing out his 3rd year for him to plan ahead like this.

Every day you come to the forum there is another story of turmoil, players wanting out,cap problems etc,its all negative stuff.

You really wonder how they can ever turn the joint around with this continue bombardment of negative stuff happening around the place.

At the end of last year we got a new coach and a new board and we thought we had hit rock bottom and the only way was up.A year on and we have gone to new level of low. Now we have a new CEO and granted he has been in the job for only a few weeks but the Farah thing has escalated and we have another one of our few very good players wanting out.

From the outside looking in the place is a shambles, now I have always been in Taylors corner mainly because I just do not see the value in sacking coaches year in and year out, but maybe in order to have any chance of getting some harmony back in the place he may need to go. Although I guess with big Marty its about money and joining a team with a winning culture

Good post supercoach.

I personally believe that a winning culture starts with the Coach and a Coach brings…...team harmony, commeraderie and a happy environment that players want to be a part of. From the naked eye it doesn't seem we have that at our Club whether it's Farah's fault? JT'S fault? Board's fault past CEO fault (Mayer) ?
Everyone has there opinion on the events of our Club but it does really stink.

I think the realisation of taking pay cuts to play with your mates is not viable anymore and our Club has sent out the message that Loyalty is non existent at our Club from this point forward.
In Marty's case not even giving us leeway in negotiations when we gave him the opportunity to play 1st Grade when he was at the Bulldogs, But good luck to him he needs to look after his Family 1st and foremost cause when a Club don't need you anymore he will know about it.

You paint a very positive possible scenario but I am really dreading what effect 2016 will have on our club and its future exisitence.

I agree, I get a :frowning: feeling that it's a make or break season.
Make a massive improvement on 2015, or break any chance of wests-tigers being a competitive threat/
**being financially viable for years to come.**
As for Marty leaving, he has to do what he thinks best is for him and family.
Also take into account the long term financial security benefit.

Positive picture indeed. I don't see why Klemmer would think about coming here at all. You have it on good word he is planning to come or just we will make a play for him? No player in their right mind would think about coming here whilst we are a shambles like we are now. Treatment of Robbie is bad enough but other players now leaving because of it makes it alot worse.

I'm happy to see him go as long as we get some kind of compensation for him. I know we didn't give the Raiders compensation, but that was a different situation. He hadn't played much first grade this yr and didn't really figure into their plans. Marty is a lot more integral for us. I'd have taken Justin Horo, but he's gone. Hopefully we get someone.

For Taupau I'd be hoping for Ballin for next 2 yrs Manly paying most as they just resigned and then Brenton Lawrence who gives us a prop who is just as good but plays more minutes or Mateo

If we got 2 of those then a fair swap especially if Taupau wasn't going to stay anyway in 2017

Also Clint Gutherson would be a great signing

Wonder if he will receive the Tede$co treatment if the rumours are true ??

I'm no brain surgeon but I don't think he has an S in his name to start with. Don't worry Happ you guys will get a thing called the alphabet up your way soon, enjoy it.

Even someone with your limited excuse for an IQ knows what I mean FTB

Player being chased off social media and having his life threatened because he signed with someone who he believed might be a better career choice

He should of listened to his intuition and left

God help the WT's if they decided to bring in relegation and promotion into the NRL in the next 3 seasons

It would be a case of welcome to my World happy :roll

FT I occasionally visit this world :bawling

Or that no matter what , Taylor wants the right things to be happening at the WT's for him or his successor

At least either way it is accountability , right or wrong

Manly Sea Eagles on verge of signing Marty Taupau from Wests Tigers
in 2 hours
Phil RothfieldThe Sunday Telegraph

MANLY are on the verge of snaring explosive forward Marty Taupau from the Wests Tigers.

The Kiwi international is under contract for another year but is seeking a release.

A number of rival clubs are aware of the situation and are chasing the game-breaking forward for 2016 and beyond.

New Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett is a clear frontrunner to secure his services to play alongside fellow Kiwis Louis Brown and Steve Matai.

His arrival would be a massive boost to Manly’s finals campaign in a forward pack that has already been beefed up with the signing of Maroons State of Origin forward Nate Myles.

Rumours that Taupau wants out from the Wests Tigers have been around for several weeks.

He is one of a number of players unhappy about the treatment of club legend Robbie Farah.

There has also been speculation Taupau would attempt to do a Jarryd Hayne and try to make it in the NFL. But we’re told NRL is still his preferred option.

His departure will put further pressure on embattled coach Jason Taylor who will struggle to convince a player who doesn’t want to be there to stay.

There is talk of a swap deal between the Tigers and the Sea Eagles involving veteran hooker Matt Ballin. The 31-year-old hooker has two years left at Brookvale but has been granted permission to look elsewhere.

After missing the finals last year, the Sea Eagles are rated a $15 chance in the first betting market issued by the TAB for 2016.

The price would shorten to around $12 if Taupau signs. The Wests Tigers are a $34 chance.

I don't have it on good word unfortunately. I was told by a father of a player we reckon we have him but that was 6 months ago. 6 months is a long time in rugby league.

Signing Balin almost certainly would result in the loss of Cherrington who now with his inclusion in the Kiwi side has every right to consider himself ahead of Balin.

Lawrence also has a question mark over his longevity due to injury.

Finally, both are on the wrong side of 30 and their best years are far behind them. I don't know why we would want to turn our club into a retirement home.
