Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Simple
He's contracted for 2016, he stays
If he wants to leave and If manly want him they pay his full salary for 2016 - we carry none of it
If not and he underperforms for us in 2016 he's in reggies
End of story

I'd say he stays unless Manly give us something in return.

Anyone join the dots and make the conclusion that he Won't stay because someone else Won't go?

I'm not sure about that mate.

Money rules. I do laugh when people have said Taupau should be 'loyal' to the Tigers, or 'honour his contract'.

Please.

Marty left his junior club for a chance at 1st grade here. Did he magically develop loyalty in 2 years?

And would you, or anyone else, stay in your current job if another company offered you more to go work for them? Significantly more?

I don't blame him for wanting out of his contract if Manly are going to stump up his earnings significantly. Good for him. It's money the Tigers probably can't afford to spend.

All that needs to be done here is find some level of compensation from Manly- be it players or cash.

Take it & run- Marty Taupau is a good player, but he ain't THAT good.

If Marty wants to leave he doesnot have his heart in it for us next year , he is not one of the top damaging front rowers in the comp yet , he will be one day next year or 2017 , it is point less keeping him hear and it will rub off on other young guys who may be up for a new contract end of 2016 and they start wanting out , you need payers who will be proud to play for the Wests Tigers and to play there balls off for each other , you get that you win comps , if Manly do want him, let him go , we pay zero of his pay , and we get one of there players that suit us , one that is young and looks like he may very well make the top, grade or a solid first grader that again suits us , I also think the signings of the 2 Ipswich players may well be a sign of see you later Marty , they both won't be half of what Marty wants in payments and one may just come out next year a kill it

Id be happy with Hiku for a swap if Manly pay half his wage as well. Pitty Lyon isn't 3 years younger.

I'd take Lyon in a heartbeat whatever his age. Still one of the premier centres in the game and a top class goalkicker as well

Marty is a good player but he doesn't play big minutes and he certainly ain't worth the $700k the Sea Eagles are reputedly chucking at him. We offered him $1.1m for 2 more years and that's a fair offer. If Manly want to pay overs for him good luck to them but he should still be made to see out the last year of his deal unless we can get a decent trade off in players or cash from the weasels of the north shore.

Oh dear… From Geo wearing ladies blouses and Happy's body heat, it's no wonder Taupau is leaving his fan base?!

Hate to say it but they need a room.

Haha… I can see the old Silverback throwing the fullback around the room like Tallis on Hodgo in SOO.

The rumblings are getting stronger that he "won't" player under a senior member of our squad….
adjustments have been attempted to remedy the situation, Where it goes from there is anyones' guess.

I've not heard those rumblings from anywhere but on here though.

Quite the opposite according to the press. No doubt the money is an issue but according to the report Jason Taylor and the manner in which Robbie Farah has been treated by the club are relevant issues.

Wait! You mean "the press" are blaming JT & saying the players hate the coach?

Unbelievable!

If only it wasn't the same story they released last season.

And the season before…

As far as I can tell the stampede to leave the club stops at 1.

And Manly, I'm sure, are not crying poor.

The press can say what they like. Money talks.

Only rumblings that I've heard was in the first story on him wanting to leave, and that was exactly the opposite to this one. And the rumbling wasn't really a crescendo.
Sounds more like a story dreamed up by someone who wanted his Coach vs captain
Opinion to sound a bit stronger.

This club is amateur as anything. Rumours came out about Soward leaving Penrith - next day there was at least an article from Gus explaining the exact situation and squashing the rumours.

The club needs to come out, sort out this Farah fiasco for good, sort out this Taupau situation quick smart and move on.

We have a loaded man in Harry T, he's not a sponsor anymore, he loves the club - the Tigers need to get in his ear and work out a deal to restore this club to its glory days. He gets to leave a legacy. He's our go to guy. Can I keep dreaming.

Marina's partner is away at the moment. But he'll be probably making a statement on the whole Taupau situation as soon as he has time to get on to his social media Page.

No he wont…He's grounded.

The thinking may be , if they close their eyes really, really tight. When they open them, it'll all have gone away.

Are you talking about Farah as being the senior player? If you are going to lay more accusations against Farah then provide something more credible than joining the dots and "the rumblings".
