Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

He is now contracted to manly, and yes you may be surprised, 😱pen_mouth: to know that I don't like them. :smiling_imp: :imp: :rant
Bunch of silvertails….
So why are we even talking about him now ? :brick:

I have been reliably informed the money offered was close on Taupau and he simply did not want to be part of the Wests Tigers. It looks like it is all spin from us about us letting him go. He let us go and made it perfectly clear he would not resign under any circumstances. Cant blame him really we are a rabble.

I have been reliably informed the money was not even close and the Wests Tigers were not prepared to increase their offer nor tie up that much salary cap space over 4 years so he left…Can't blame him really I would have done the same...

Can't blame him and you can't blame us.

He was trying to leave before Tigers even offered him a new contract. He just didn't want to be here. You can stop defending him now and just accept he wanted to leave lol

He was set to re-sign with the Tigers before he was suspended. If he still has the same TPA with 9 then then NRL should investigate.

Buzz looks to have popped the blue pill this week…

Marty Taupau did the same and signed with Manly recently. At least the Wests Tigers did the right thing and released him 12 months early rather than carry a player who doesn’t want to be there.

Buzz is a thieving tool

I have brought a transfer period during SOO many times on the Forum

He looked very ordinary during the 10 minutes he was on in the first half of the latest test match.

No appearance in the second half.

Bad form or injury?

My money is on form.

All good suggestions by Buzz. You never know what might eventuate in the near future.

Family Not Feuds Drove Taupau Exit
Taupau says family was chief motivator for leaving Wests Tigers

The chance to secure a future for his young family rather than the ongoing dramas at the Wests Tigers was the chief motivator in Martin Taupau's exit from the NRL club, says the Manly recruit.

Taupau was engaged in one of the most-bizarre contract stories in rugby league history when his early exit from the Tigers to the Sea Eagles was announced last month by a Canadian theatre critic on Twitter.

The Kiwi international said on Wednesday he found humour in that circumstance and the reason behind his move wasn't the uncertainty at Concord.

Spin from his own mouth now…..

It comes down to money. That is my expectation with players leaving or coming to the Tigers. Our problem is signing players for overs which doesn't leave enough in the bank to pay for other players.

I think not resigning Taupau might be the right decision based on the money for us as well.

I've lost a bit of respect for him, tbh. He could've honoured his contract and moved on after that - he only had to wait another year before leaving to build his family fortune and I'm sure he wasn't being paid pittance here, in any case.

He left for more dough and I suppose you can't blame him.
You can bet all the rubbish going on at our club didn't help, but at least he was professional enough not to bag the club, the coach or the players.

Your career can turn on a dime, just ask Alex McKinnon, Simon Dwyer or Taniela Tuiaki. If you're in a position to get the big bucks right away, go get them, don't wait because you never know what's waiting around the corner. I'm sure the last thing he wanted was to be a cult hero like Tuiaki and have nothing to show for it financially.

Maybe because he had nothing bad to say about the coach or players.
