Well I'm pretty sure you can chalk it up to Money….

Manly are paying him more than 550k per year?

700K is the reported figure so Yeah…Good Luck to them...We certainly weren't paying him 550K next year...

Money probably is behind Taupau leaving but the ongoing nonsense between Farah and Taylor certainly wouldn't have helped

Oh well. See you later Marty.

Loyalty doesn't pay your way in retirement. If he's gone about it all the right way good luck to him.

That's a lot of money for someone that struggles to put in more than 10 minutes and is a pretty soft defender no one in the opposing line is looking for the HULK!

This club is soft. He's on next to nothing for next so what benefit is it to release him?

Who's next Woodsy to follow Taupau to his childhood favourite team at Manly? Tedesco will hate losing week in week out.

How can this club be in such a mess? We have Woodsy, Farah, Tedesco and Taupau as our star players and other teams packed with rep players. I don't get it, guess it pays to be in a winning environment.

Geez I dunno how manly would have had a spare 700k in their cap. Even so, sounds like Marty was adamant he was leaving at the end of his contract regardless if tigers could match the offer or not. Smells like something else

Bugger me… I've never been so close to ringing up and cancelling my membership. No members and fans aren't disappointed they're fed up. Who cares what he plans to do in 2017? We need to put the best team we can in 2016 surely? What other club releases so many genuine first team players, not for disciplinary reasons, but because some other club wants them? Can you imagine Manly doing this? Of course not. When Matai tried the same thing they refused and he's still there. The stupidity of this club keeps amazing me. We should just pull out of the NRL for 2016 and start again if this is their attitude.

Would love to know if we have requested anything/anyone in exchange for Marty's release.

I suppose unless something comes out in the next few days, the answer will be no.

I wouldn't mind Brenton Lawrence, other than that Manly's forward pack doesn't really excite me.

He is staying this season and leaving for Manly the season after. It's clear as day from his comments above. Wish he'd just come out and say that. He still might and I'll applaud him if he does.

Looks like, for the short term, we'll be weakening our roster to make it stronger. Doesn't look good for Taylor. The media will make sure he gets the sack if results don't go our way. When we come good from it all, at least he'll be able to say he was the architect of it because I highly doubt he'll be in charge when it happens.

"Clear as day"?

Where exactly did he say that he will be leaving?

Get a grip. Or perhaps, loosen the grip?

Oh cmon - he's had every chance here to answer a pretty simple question about his future and done the opposite. It's not clear as day that he's choosing Manly but his comments inspire little confidence in his desire to stay with us. My grip is pretty spot on.

The problem with some people on this forum is that they make comments, not on what is said, but what they perceive of what was said. He said nothing, I repeat, nothing about leaving, Manly, money, or any other club.

Can people just WAIT and see what happens instead of bloviating about something that they know absolutely nothing about.

Many knew he was gone by those very same words that he said, because it was obvious and even more so by what he did not say.

Matt Ballin?

Martin Taupau is a cheap shot merchant. Commonly referred to in Australia as a "cat". The type who acts all hard and when someone puts it on him he smiles and laughs it off instead of going through with the confrontation. He attacked 2 defenseless halves when they weren't looking last year, not front rowers, small halves.

I have no time for the guy and happy to see the back of him.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have today secured arguably the best forward in rugby league with the signing of New Zealand international Martin Taupau.

In a stunning coup, 25-year-old Taupau will join the Sea Eagles from 2016 on a four-year deal in one of the club's biggest signings since Malcolm Reilly.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to play in a strong team alongside some of the game’s biggest names in Jamie Lyon, Brett Stewart, Daly Cherry-Evans, Peta Hiku and Steve Matai,’’ Taupau said.

“The Sea Eagles have recruited well for next season and to have the opportunity to play with Australian and Queensland prop Nate Myles, and fellow Kiwi international Lewis Brown, was an added bonus in securing my future with Manly.

“It is a fresh beginning at the Sea Eagles under new Head Coach Trent Barrett and I’m really looking forward to playing under him.

“The Sea Eagles are one of the most successful clubs in the history of rugby league and I want to be a big part in getting them back into the finals next season as they celebrate their 70th Anniversary.”

Manly chairman Scott Penn said the signing of Taupau elevated the Sea Eagles chances of returning quickly to one of the top teams in the NRL.

"Most would agree that Martin Taupau is one of the most dominant forwards in the game,’’ Penn said.

"He is young and experienced. His signing is a tribute to our off field team who have done a magnificent job in securing his services.

"Head coach Trent Barrett has been across negotiations and played an important role as did Football consultant Bob Fulton.

"Our 2016 Membership campaign has already seen a significant increase on last year and Martin's signing is sure to give our Members further confidence about the year ahead."

Manly Warringah Head Coach Trent Barrett welcomed the announcement of Taupau’s signing.

“Marty is a very damaging and aggressive forward who can certainly win you a game,’’ Barrett said.

“He has really come on over the past 12 months and I am looking forward to developing his game. We are still yet to see the very best of Marty and it is great that he will have the opportunity to take his skills to another level at the Sea Eagles.”

Manly Warringah CEO, Joe Kelly, said Taupau’s signing really added to an already impressive forward pack.

“To have secured one of the very best forwards in the competition is a real coup for the Sea Eagles,’’ Kelly said.

“Marty has made a great impact in such a short time and he has a real cult following in the game.

“It is going to be a great forward pack with the likes of Nate Myles, Lewis Brown, Jake Trbojevic and now Martin Taupau. We look forward to welcoming Martin to the Sea Eagles family.”

Taupau is currently in England with the New Zealand Kiwis with 2016 Manly team mates Lewis Brown and Peta Hiku.

He will join the Sea Eagles before the team breaks for Christmas/New Year.

Apparently Ballin is still on?

Which would necessitate Farah leaving so we'd be exchanging an international hooker and prop for Matt Ballin and be financially worse off? Is Alan Bond alive and handling our player negotiations?

What a joke of a club we are. The farah fiasco now this and they expect us as fans to give up our hard earned for this. Matt Ballin as well please we have a much better player in farah who we want to get rid of and a great up and comer in cherrington. Waiting for the spin of Taylor and pascoe
