Matt Ballin signs for two years - official

ROBBIE Farah has been struck another blow in his bid to see out his contract at the Wests Tigers after Matt Ballin signed a two year deal with the club.

Manly’s two-time premiership winning hooker has been on the outer since it first became clear Trent Barrett was taking over in 2016, with two young hookers Apisai Koroisau and Matt Parcell joining the club in recent months.

The Sea Eagles are yet to announce Ballin’s departure and the Tigers have not confirmed Ballin’s arrival, however a source close to the Manly rake told Fox Sports News a two-year deal had been struck to get the 31-year-old to Concord.

Ballin ruptured his ACL in round 24 against Parramatta and will be up against it to return from the serious injury by round one in 2016.

Robbie Farah looks to have played his last game for the Tigers.
However, his signing is almost certain to relegate Farah to NSW Cup if he decides to stay at the Tigers after he was told late in the 2015 season that he was free to leave the club with two years to run on his deal.

Farah was told at the time that he would be playing out his career in reserve grade if he didn’t leave the Tigers, however this position has recently been clarified by new CEO Justin Pascoe, who said the skipper would be free to fight for his first grade spot.

Ballin has played 215 first grade games for the Sea Eagles as well as one Origin game for Queensland and he is likely to be used as Jason Taylor’s first choice option, with 21-year-old Manaia Cherrington to act as back up.

If Robbie thinks he is stubborn, looks like he has met his match in JT.

Is this a check-mate in JT's supposed battle with Robbie?

Surely after running around for a few rounds in front of 150 people and a couple of stray dogs, Robbie will be begging Sam to find him a new club at any cost.

If Ballin signs it should be announced with Taylor being sacked, why the hell do we want an over 30 hooker who is coming off an ACL injury, we already have 2 hookers in our NRL squad, we need centre's and backrowers ,Taylor is a deadset moron if this happens.

If true … sickening. Its got nothing to do with benefiting the club or moving forward - we dont need another 31 year old hooker - we have got a better one already. It was hard to swallow the dribble about why its was a good move to let Marty go - what rubbish is he going to serve up to justify this one!

Lol, so we are getting Manly's unwanted old reject. This club never seizes to amaze. :astonished:

I understand your frustration.

I ask you one question, does this not show you how much JT believes Robbie is a problem.

And I know people will say that JT is the problem.

But the people in the right places including the board, and the new CEO wouldn't allow this, if they didn't see the same thing.

Not to give JT credit here, but I do believe he must be a bigger problem within the club than any of us know.

Wests Tigers do not need three hookers - Ballin, Cherrington and Farah. They also have a very promising hooker who played U20's in 2015\. Ballin is a potentially self imploding signing for Wests Tigers. Wait for the fireworks..

Honestly the club seems to be going backwards rapidly and good old JT is everywhere to be seen.

I am hopeful next year we pull a rabbit out of the hat. If we don't surely JT gets the sack.

a gobsmacking signing, where are the tigers heading and what the hell is going on.
if this is part of the 'war' between robbie and whoseamebob, then perhaps they should both go off into the sunset. the club is losing frustrated supporters when decisions like todays are made. manly must be giggling at us.

Taylor is effectively saying Ballin is our Hooker Robbie can please himself. Cherrington would be in front of Ballin imp, but gee Taylor seems to be acting like a little school boy - mind you he looks like one too.

Worse, this has the potential to see Cherrington leave the club. Remember, he is on tour under the influence of fellow Kiwis players and away from Taylor. He will realise his chances of playing first grade have all but disappeared if Ballin is signed. Let's see some leadership from the Club and deny the signing or send Taylor packing.

I don't think that's the case at all. It's effectively telling Cherrington he's the most important hooker at the club with Ballin as back-up.

Ballin is a decent player, but if he is confirmed this spells curtains for Farah.

Farah is a fool if he thinks he's holding the cards.

The club were going to shaft him and pay most of his salary to do so, why does he think that they will not play him the year in state cup? Cherrington is the view to the future so he will be in the 17, and if Ballin comes here he isn't coming to play in state cup when he could do that at the club he's played his whole career at.

Despite what Daley says, he is not going to pick the NSW hooker from state cup irrespective of how well he is going because he quite simply will not be up to meeting the intensity of origin after playing against fringe first graders and reserve graders. He will also not finish his career in first grade with us and it's a very real possibility that he will not get another contract after this.

He will need to find a home elsewhere if he wants to continue his first grade and origin career.
