Matt Ballin signs for two years - official

this is without doubt the stupidest decision that i have ever seen. to release Taupau probably force farah out of the club and sign a player over 30 who has a potential career ending injury seems to me to be a total disaster.
Taylor and the entire voting board will be held to blame for their arrogance and lack of sensible thought

12 weeks ago it was reported that Manly were cutting 14 players, including Luke Burgess, Feleti Mateo, Willie Mason, Josh Starling and Justin Horo. Why on earth did we take Balin when we could have taken any of these players to strengthen our player position weakness?

.

Ask the coach? He is the bloke with ALLLLL the answers.

Exactly

I actually feel sorry for Ballin he has done nothing wrong but want to play for our troubled (used to be great) club. I feel he is a shot duck before he even walks through the door. Hope he is a champion for us and plays with all his heart. My previous comments came out of emotion and were wrong.

f'ck me, we have one of the best hookers that ever lived. Robbie, but we have to let him go, he''s not good enough for the team that ran close to last.
i have no disrectect for anyone here, but i love footy, and i always loved the tigers,
right now, i feel no passion for them.
who here reading this agreers with me?

I don't, but I guess I'm a bit older than you are. I've been through stuff like this before and I always support the club over player stuff.

Age has got nothing to do with an opinion mate. "Player stuff" ? WTF?

This is coach and management stuff. And, soon to be Members stuff when the club realises there is NO faith in or support for the Taylor/Farah, Win/Lose debacle we are watching now.

Members will not renew their memberships. Simple as that.

Taylor is the Tony Abbott of NRL coaching. We will not know how appalling he was until he is replaced by someone with some ability.

And, that's when I will consider paying for 2016 membership. But, not before then.

We have to sign players like this because farah takes 20% of our salary cap. Ballin can execute a game plan where as farah is above the law does what he wants. Ballin will be the perfect mentor for cherrington. As far as im concerned farah should move on, the club don''t want him, why stick around? To cause trouble?. If my boss said to me your done here, ill pack my bags and go with a chq thanks and robbie has been offered that . He is not the player he used to be nor a player that commands 950k a year. We are still living an emotional past with robbie, he has been a great player for the tigers, but you got to know when your time is up…. i can hear that fat lady singing..

Dont feel sorry for him at all. Everyone knows what is going on with Farah and Taylor and if he has signed - he did so knowing what Taylors intentions are. Desperate measure by a bloke who was not wanted by his own club - and in doing so has outed another.

Maybe we should all hope that Ballin is as successful at guiding Brooks and Moses through as he was with Foran And DCE a few years ago

Politics aside he has done nothing that warrants hate. We just need to embrace him.

Interesting development if true.

I do wonder though if the Balin signature (supposing it's true) was acquired _during or before_ the Farah fiasco. Some individuals Banked that Robbie would move on. He hasn't. We have three hookers.

Now that would be a debacle of the highest order and incredibly embarrassing.

This would be fine if Farah was coming off contract and we were discussing whether to re-sign him. But he's not off contract so either he stays and we need to pay Farah all that money AND whatever Ballin is getting or we have to pay the balance of Farah's contract that his new club doesn't pay. And Ballin. It's extremely difficult to see how this works out financially better for us. Or on the field better.

2 things. Firstly he doesn't have a job himself so expecting him to turn down a contract is a bit much. Secondly it's not his place to worry about how the club treats Farah and him declining our offer wouldn't solve much.

Seriously if this eventuates and Farah is still in our books next year ? then JT is the Dopiest out of the Dopes :bash .
Surely Farah is gone for this to occur .

Exactly true. Its a different discussion when Robbie comes off contract. He isn't worth what we are paying him and I think its a pretty simple decision.

The problem is that right now we are paying him. We may as well use him.

I really hope this doesn't happen. I like Ballin but at 31 and with Farah digging his heels in, i cant see the sense in this recruitment when we need a centre and 2 big props to cover the loss of Taupau.
We are now going to pay top dollar for 2 young halves who have the worst forward pack to play behind. I cant get my head around the this logic.
Surely we need strong edge backrowers and tough fast props to get on the front foot so our halves can shine. Moses and Brooks are not Cherry-Evens and Foran (at least these 2 guys had a half decent forward pack to work behind). I am not looking forward to next year and all i can hope is that Taylor and the boys throw egg in all our faces but i truly doubt that.
Confidence must be sky high at the club.

We have also lost a hooker in Joel Luani, the signing of Ballin may not mean anything to Farahs career - if he pulls his head in and the best hooker at the club, he may get the gig. If not, he won't… And if he didn't know that yesterday, he certainly does today...
Ballin is signed at manly for the next 2 years, would be very surprised if he is costing us much at all to be honest... I think it's a great play by the club. Get a classy player for next to nothing...

We have depth in the hooking role because besides Cherrington and Farah, there is the Aust Schools hooker in Liddle who will play NSW Cup next year and behind him the NSW U18 hooker in Peak.

Talk of Ballin being anywhere near this club is illogical as he will do nothing more than block the career paths of a couple of our brightest prospects.

Agree with that - but dont feel sorry for him. He is looking after his own best interests. But you must admit welcoming Balin to the squad next week for Farah and the players will be slightly awkward - its not like we were looking for a another ageing hooker. Now we have got one - brilliant !
