How did he kill their attack?

That's just a load of garbage along with everything you've said about him

Clearly a cap decision

Nonsense they subsidised his salary and paid more for Korisau a way better hooker

Korisau played like a busted arse at 9 this season from what I saw. His best game for the year was probably when he was playing in the halves.

LOL…scathing comeback

I'll try once more...
How did he kill their attack?

His play out of dummy half was slow and his halves got zero quality ball. He basically set up zero with the ball and hasn't got a great kicking game.

I like Ballin he is a good leader and good clubman but I done rate his play which, is the reason he was moved on. If you think he will be better in 2017 after a season ravaged by injury and at his age I believe that is a massive reach.

My brother supports the Eagles and he was cheering when he was moved on as he stifled their play. Most Manly fans love Ballin as he has been a warrior but I am sick of signing yesterdays heroes or young players with potential.

Even though this is meant to be a Matt McIlwrick thread, I will add my opinion about Ballin. I haven't seen a lot of Manly games in recent seasons but my impression of Ballin has always been of a player who was very overrated. I saw an honest tradesman and nothing else. He could tackle well and once gave quick service to the ball players but he offered absolutely nothing in the way of individual attacking flair. If anything, this limited skill set has diminished further and I can see no value in him other than being a steadying influence and positive clubhouse influence.

I think the title thread is wrong…

Almost every thread is about a roundabout way of taking potshots at Taylor

Bar the plodders thread

The thread has nothing to do with JT. Mcilwrick is sadly the best foil for Liddle. We can still win with an average hooker we did so at times with Farah whether it's him or Ballin it can be done. They are just both below standard.

Ballin played against Brisbane with less than 30 minutes of game time under his belt and we looked a completely different unit

Could be coincidence , but we will find out in 2017

I'm excited that Ballin will be playing big minutes and having a hand in the development of Liddle

Ballin has a 100% win rate at WT, only player in the last 3 years you can say that about.

How many games did he play? i can guarantee it was very few and he spent little time on the field i am not rubbishing his efforts but you are taking his stats from a very small data base.

Jad ,check your batteries on your sarcasm meter , might be low or not working

2017 will give us some answers to Ballin , I'm excited about him

Good leader around the place to have and still has something to offer in my opinion

Ballin's game for years has been built around taking the tall timber down the park.

In 2015 Toovey shifting away from this style of football by implementing ball-playing backrowers.

Toovey realised he needed more creativity out of DH to compliment his backrowers and set about buying Purcell & Koroisau before being punted.

Ballin's game wasnt rubbish… It didnt suit the structure any longer.

I don't remember Ballin being pushed back 10-12 metres while clinging on after making initial contact, both in a Manly jersey or in the minimal minutes he played with us last year.

Hopefully him and ET leading the defence will change the attitude of some of those around them.

Didnt Toovey love Ballin and re-sign him but it was Barrett who cut him loose to sign Purcell and Koroisau?

That's correct mate,Ballin wanted to be a Sea Eagle for life,Toovey admired him for his work ethic, however,Barretts hiring ended that..apparently…

What ended ballins career at manly was the report of their medical support team.I still hope they where wrong but am not confident after last year.

This is exactly why JT wanted him*. He wants a very simple game from his hooker - an honest tradesman if you will. We don't need him to engage the defensive line or drag the markers, just simple service to the fwds and halves as they see fit, and solid defence around the ruck.
The flair will come from the halves and the rest of the backline.

* I say this as a JT critic rather than a fan, but it's obvious the way he wants the team to play.

Well Liddle will offer the flair from dummy half. His pace and running game will keep markers on their toes, and otherwise will give good service and solid defence. But we don't need 4 halfbacks on the field all trying to call plays.
Ballin will keep things tight and let the backs do their thing. McIlwrick is in them middle somewhere. A solid player with a little bit of skill. A handy backup option.

Wrap this kid up ASAP.

He had a good game . It was almost like he was told the 9 is his for the rest of the year. But i also thought the rotation with Liddle worked really well.
