Matt McIlwrick

Will McIllwrick's performances this year drive his price up?

If so, I think he is only going to get better and his price will probably go up and up.
I think based on last night's performance we should sign him during the week for 200k-300k.

| cannot believe how good this kid is…..hits like a train in defense and dead set is killing it up the guts.

Very good at finding lazy defenders and making huge ground.

Dead set gem IMO!

good but i dont think his price will be driven up i cnat see much inteest from other clubs and plus we have to think we have liddle on decent money so we dont wanna py to much for 2 hookers when we dont have a squad

He showed he knew when to run and when not to

His defence is pretty good

What more do you want for the money we are paying him

He could quite easily end up as our buy of the season , the other player who also impressed was Idris , he seems to be getting some mobility back and started to look dangerous

2-3 weeks time and the sleeping giant that is Jamal Idris might fully awaken

I' can't remember ever seeing any player , get more wraps for doing so little , and playing such small minutes, especially at the age he is with the injuries that he's had , and as already stated , was unwanted by his own club.
If he ever scores a try for us , he'll be given the keys to Concord
I hope he's just half as good as he's been built up by his fan club,
To say he was the difference between making the Semis or not is laughable
Still il be happy if he can even put a couple of good games together,

Sadly I saw a lot of eagles games in 2015 and he was poor. Missed 4-5 tackles a game and setup zero in attack. Stifled the Eagles actually worse than Farah in the midst of his slump. I would be happy to be proven wrong but management have to run with Liddle and Mcilwrick.

Lol, poor? Missing tackles? You were obviously watching the games sitting alongside Robbie.

He averaged over 40 tackles, and an avergae of 2.2 missed tackles a game. If this is poor then i welcome it. We have no-one who has or can perform remotely close to that.

Manly moved on a legend and a champion leader in Ballin because he was going well and paid part of his salary. B
All good if you think he is the answer but I don't share your optimism. He was killing their attack and its funny Farah who was a great defender was smashed for his attacking game by the forum and the same people rate Ballin. Liddle is the answer long term but he may well have to start right away if we are serious about winning.

Ballin wasn't playing At All !!!!! Let alone well.

I like his attitude, works really well and defends good

I doubt he will go anywhere, he is enjoying his footy and hasn't had a real crack in first grade at his other clubs, sometimes it's about enjoying your footy and not the money

The opening couple of pages of this thread are very funny…but I miss these gems from steve

Awesome. This is honestly great cap management. Pay Robbie who is the SOO hooker not to play with us next year and sign this guy.

Brilliance.

This guy is starting for us and doing a great job…meanwhile...

I miss them too and maybe Happy is missing his sparring partner.

Loving what McIlwrick has been doing. As i mentioned in another thread him and Liddle will keep us in good stead for the hooking role for a while. No need for Ballin anymore especially with his injury concerns.

It would be a crime to let today's loss overshadow his performance. He's been heads and shoulders our best player so far in 2017\. Funny how the position most thought we would struggle in the most has turned out to be our most settled position. So good out of dummy half and is becoming so dangerous close to the line. Wrap him up ASAP.

Bagged him at the start of the year, should be offered an extension ASAP. Is as tough as they come and does a lot of dirty work that some of his higher paid and more glorified offsiders do not seem to be willing to do.

I thought he would be a good buy for us this season but even I am surprised how solid he has been.

Its a no brainer sign him up for another 2 years and between him and Liddle the Hookers job is all settled for us.

Ballin has delivered nothing as he is always injured and TBH this year will be his last in the NRL.

Gonna go ahead and echo what everyone else has been saying; he's been one of our very best and has to be up there in buy of the year talks. Would love to see him co-captain with ET based on performance this season.
Interesting tidbit in the commentary saying how he's battling arthritis in at least one of his knees, can't doubt his heart, seems a great asset to the club.

Has been a great buy. Exactly what you want from a hooker in the modern game.

Some of this passing yesterday wasn't great but that was mainly due to players lying in the ruck. His weakness I have noticed he struggles in dealing with a body in the ruck. Its like he gets caught in two minds of trying to milk the penalty and just give good service. But this is a minor criticism and if refs properly reffed the ruck, which they haven't done in 10 years, this wouldnt be a problem.
